A neonate is a freshly embraced vampire. Informally, a neonate has passed through the initial stages of vampiric existence (during which time it is generally called a whelp) and is sufficiently conversant in vampiric society to not embarrass theirself, or at least to be responsible for his or her own actions after a screwup.
