YULEWARS "YULE WOODLANDS"

Final Version

STORY
Each year at the time of the Winter Solstice, the Night Elves and Humans celebrate Yule. The Night Elves grow huge magical Yule Trees, harvest a few of them and share the Yule Logs with the Humans. Some Human settlements are now also growing their own Yule Trees. Without Yule Trees, or Yule Logs their yearly celebration would be ruined. The Orc Grinches know this, and so they are already preparing for this most important mission. To infiltrate the Night Elf and Human settlements in this area and to find\steal as many Bundles of Yule Logs as they can. However, the Magical Vortex through which the Bundles of Yule Logs are to be delivered can only be kept open for a certain amount of time. Should the Orc Grinches run out of time, the mission will be aborted. There may be more than one army of Orc Grinches in the area (2 player mode). If so, honor will only be bestowed upon the army which successfully completes their mission, by being the first to deliver the required number of Yule Logs, or which army of Grinches has the stolen and delivered the most Bundles of Yule Logs when the mission timer runs out.

Thank you for playing YULEWARS "YULE WOODLANDS", which is only one map in a series of Yule Wars maps.
All of our Yule War maps come in 2 versions...

* Multi Player versions * which allow 2 players to compete head to head against each other, and the clock. These maps also allow for a single player to go at it alone.

* Single Player versions * which also have a timer ticking away, however these versions will take longer to play through, are more battle intensive, have more random attacks, more triggered attacks, more sounds used, etc.

There's no review for this map yet, so I thought I'd make one!
Hello Lord Stormblade, I am reviewing your map, YW Yule Woodlands. I'll start by saying that your description is adequate and gives the required information about the map. It is well written, and I am content with it, but this site encourages map makers to use map description templates or appealing BBCodes. This makes the description look more professional and easier to look at. I'm not an official map reviewer and I'm fine with your description, but when another reviewer comes along he or she will likely comment on the lack of BBCodes in your description. I also recommend you mention who helped you and what custom resources you used in a separate section. The credits are scattered in the description and the Hive Workshop likes a list of credits at the bottom of the map description, preferably in a hidden tab.
The terrain suits the map's theme and is made by Blizzard, so it's approvable. (I think... I don't think there are any rules about using Blizzard terrain to make a map, are there?) Your loading screen gives the proper information and is not cut off, so that's good.
Now the important part, the game. I started the map and used the "show rules" command. It gave a good description of the map's features, but it went a bit too fast for me to read. Don't make the text appear as quickly; my screen was filled with messages and I was overwhelmed. I was also able to type "show rules" while the text from the previous command was still onscreen, which kind of messed stuff up. I know that you advised to wait "at least a full minute" before typing "show rules" again, but I think it would be better to just disable the command for that player for a minute and then reenable it so the player has no chance at all to mess it up. Your War Mill description is also misleading: The player cannot gather lumber, so why would he want to place his War Mill strategically? If you wanted to be sure that the player knows lumber is not used, you could also go into Game Interface in the Advanced tab and modify Lumber's description into something such as "Lumber is not used", or you could replace the tree icon with nothing and delete the description entirely. I like the fact that your tooltips and ingame texts have nice colors in them. The gameplay is easy to learn, and I like the fact that you are playing against AI. Your AI is pretty well made and gives a good challenge. I like your ideas for the Yule Defender's units. I especially like the sleigh and reindeer, although I don't quite get what the Kobolds that spawn out of the sleigh are supposed to be. The gameplay isn't too unique or special; it's a melee with a slightly altered Orc techtree and different goal. I like the singleplayer compatibility, and I think the map is fun enough to be replayable (although I think the map is much more fun on the first try because I don't know anything about where the Yule logs are and what defends which area. Exploration is fun!). I can't say too much else about the map, so my last suggestion for the map is to create a Quests tab and give some information there.
Overall, the map is quite fun to play (it isn't too easy/super difficult), the idea behind the map is nice, and the map is easy to learn. The map isn't too unique, but it was created well and is relatively polished.
I give this map a
3/5 and I vote for approval.
