Winterheart Temple

ENTRY FOR THE 1ST LEVEL DESIGN CONTEST

"Deep in the Arctic Peaks is the Winterheart Temple, where legends say the power to control winter resides. That, of course, if you can get there alive..."

This map is intended to be used as a template for a boss fight with two different arenas.

The first arena is intended to be the temple basement, where the Boss should originally be waiting. My idea for this area is that the Boss should use avoidable freezing spells on the player and summoning different ice creatures.

After the battle in the first arena is over, the nearby door should be destroyed, allowing the player to escape through a corridor and then through ice bridges to reach the portal that will teleport him to the second arena. I would suggest this escape has a countdown in addition to traps and enemies.

The second arena is one of the roof areas, where the Boss can have at his disposal some special mechanics that must be used to support him during the fight. This includes a special platform in the middle that can be used for phase changes and four Mystic Crystals that should buff the Boss, debilitate the player, or any other idea that might work with them. The Crystals include an alternate animation that should be taken into account when designing the battle.

I really love this, and I feel like some of the screenshots really did not do the map justice. The best way I can describe the style of this map is just... Warcraft 3, and I mean that very endearingly. You did not have to use any tricks or crazy doodads to make the temple interior feel like the interior of a building, it all feels very natural. Moving a unit along the map just really feels like a genuine exploration rather than a demo of the map.

I am honestly excited to see what people may make with this template, I believe it has amazing potential, and I love the clever reskin of Happytauren's Lava model.

ADDITIONAL NECESSARY INFORMATION
  • A credits list in the map thread description is required where the names of the resource (models, skins, icons, spells, sound etc.) authors are mentioned along with the specific resource. It would be a luxury to have links leading to the used resources. Credits in the Quest Log would be appreciated too.
  • A detailed changelog in the first post would be helpful to reviewers and notify fans about the newest implementations to your map.
  • Map thread tags are important. Please use those that fit and not more or none.
