WCII - ToD Human Demo Campaign

This bundle is marked as useful / simple. Simplicity is bliss, low effort and/or may contain minor bugs.
From the creators of the Warcraft II - Tides of Darkness Human campaign

Warcraft II - Tides of Darkness Shareware

Introduction:
During the finalization of the Warcraft II - Tides of Darkness Human campaign (together with LordPerenoldeII, Azazzello [XGM] & loktar) I found out that there is also a Demo campaign. I really enjoyed playing this campaign and came up with the idea to also update it to Warcraft III style.

Campaign Description:
This campaign exists of 3 mission with similar mission objectives as the retail game, but there are some minor differences (mission briefing, objectives etc.).

More information can be found on:

To play the campaign in Warcraft II style, go to:

Credits:
This is a small in-between-project and may give you a preview how the full Human campaign will look like. As mentioned above, it's not all done by me. Below are the contributors:
  • LorPerenoldeII: Coding and Importing & finalizing the campaign
  • Azazzello [XGM]: Coding and Modeling
  • loktar: Coding
  • Helldoom: Intro cinematic
  • Blizzard: Original WC2 sounds & music
  • Stormshock: Coding and Terraining
Last but not least I want to thank you all for playing this campaign. If anyone got a comment about this campaign, you can leave a message on this site.

This is the demo campaign (a.k.a. Shareware) of Warcraft 2. It's similar to the Tides of Darkness campaign, but has a slightly different story.

In the first three missions you get access to more units compared to the retail version. Also the enemy has more advanced units.

Other differences between this campaign and from Helldoom are the terrain, models, objectives etc.

In the above links you can find more information.

What I meant is. What is the difference between the full campaign you are working on and Helldoom's?

  1. There's a issue with the Juggernaut water waves, they look square.
  2. The cannons don't shoot anything.
  3. Maps don't start one after the other. When one ends, the campaign menu is shown.
  4. Loading screens are low quality.
  5. It's weird to have the briefing as a separate map. Ah, never mind, you've recycled the map for each briefing. But then, why are there 8 maps and not 6? I assume, you did copy that briefing mission three times.
  6. What's this? StormshockWcII01.png Didn't happen the second time I loaded the map.
  7. No Warcraft II soundsets. Same with the briefing. At least the announcer and attack sounds are changed.
  8. You should hide this "ability": stormshosckWcII02.png Same with the Oil Tanker.
  9. Building shipyards and similar buildings is problematic since you have to find the right spot to click for the construction to begin.
  10. Oil Platforms have Gold :D
  11. I'm not sure how accurate the armour and damage types are since ships have fortified and buildings heavy. It's confusing.
  12. The Flying Machine's selection circle is positioned too low.

Basically, you mostly build and move some units around in this demo.
Anyways, this is a remake of a demo. We really don't need this but whole campaign remakes instead and we already have something like that.

Substandard.

ADDITIONAL NECESSARY INFORMATION
  • A credits list in the map thread description is required where the names of the resource (models, skins, icons, spells, sound etc.) authors are mentioned along with the specific resource. It would be a luxury to have links leading to the used resources. Credits in the Quest Log would be appreciated too.
  • A detailed changelog in the first post would be helpful to reviewers and notify fans about the newest implementations to your map.
  • Map thread tags are important. Please use those that fit and not more or none.

Thanks for reviewing the campaign.

I agree that the full campaign is better to post on this site.

I just want to say that for me this was just a small and fun side project which I liked and was willing to share it with the community, but you're in charge, so I accept your choice.

Personally, I think this is pretty cool. I find the little intricacies of how things change between a demo and retail to be quite interesting.

Props as well for having proper war2 icons. It seems most war2 projects have either an 'updated' take on them (which usually look fine, but I'm fond of the originals), or their aspect ratio doesn't really fit properly in the war3 ui so it looks weird. Since this is Human campaign, I suppose it make sense that orc icons are missing. Would you be able to upload them?
