Just out of curiosity, I noticed all your other campaigns, even when updated recently, all have recommended version of 1.21, while this one is set to 'recent'. Any chance you will save the others on the most recent patch? Being made on 1.21 does not mean it will have any higher rate of crashes than for a campaign saved on "recent", but I have noticed in some of the previous comments of your campaigns there were some crashes noted. If this campaign was saved on 1.29+, then I am guessing you yourself have the most recent version, so I was just wondering if there were any advantages to keeping the other ones on 1.21.

There's simply a technical limitation to that, as it is was made with a modified map editor with a few new features. But since nor the editor modifications nor the maps are compatible with the recent version, I'd have to re-create those from almost scratch.

COOL!!! Finally the Beyond the Dark Portal Campaigns are coming!

Sadly, as for now, it keeps crashing whenever I try to play this one... Fatal Error in the WC3 itself

Should have made this on a 1.21 instead... not everyone has the latest WC3 patch nor has the interest to install it... :/

First of all... I've stated my statement more like as a wish upon him, not a demand... i know its his campaign remake, not mine...

And I do wish for most other map makers here as well to make maps, campaigns, etc on an older editor to be playable in any WC3 patch... much convenient for all.

Why I dont like the recent WC3 patches?
1. Instead of a patch that can be easily selected upon a version switcher app, the recent patches had to be in another custom launchers or something... which is stupid
2. The balancing for the custom warcraft gameplays of the recent patches is stupid and is too Horde biased... Seriously, nearly everything in the recent patches have been "balanced" by Blizzard as a Make the Horde look strong and everything else too weak... which is just utterly ridiculous...

I understand having an older version available to be more convenient to some, but I'm already using some of the new assets of the newer version (which is why I ultimately chose this), which would make it rather hard to convert it into the old version. So unfortunately no plans for that yet.

It's not convenient for the map makers, though, is my point, as the recent versions of Warcraft III add a whole lot of new functionality and goodies to use in the World Editor. By asking them to revert back, you inadvertently ask them to shoot themselves in the foot, is all I'm saying.

I do agree that the launchers can be a pain in the ass, but I haven't really seen a lot of examples for your second point. Then again, I don't really play competitively or anything so I'm hardly a judge.

What you may want to consider is keeping two installations of Warcraft III on hand, if you have the drive space. Wrestle with the launchers once to get one version up to the recent patches so you can play modern custom campaigns while keeping your main install on the version you want to play normally. Treat it like a modded version of the game, y'know? That's what I would do, in your shoes, anyhow.

Hi. If you can, and have the space, I suggest keeping multiple installs of wc3 in your drive so you can play the version you want at any time. Just install them on different folders. It isn't the most ideal solution, but at least it'll prevent any future headaches.

How can I use the Grunt model used in this project to replace the default grunt model and texture?
Can anyone please help me with correct path?

All chapters visible from the start?

  1. -the terrain needs more work, it's too bare.
  2. -the footman freezes animation after playing its attack one.
  3. -music should be played through its proper channel not as sound.
  4. -still has that old school gameplay of trial and error. It gets better when you've got a base.
  5. -maybe add difficulty options since the original didn't have that.
  6. -Death Coil seems to sometimes not give HP back. Also, it doesn't affect multiple units like in the original (which didn't require a unit target to be cast upon).
  7. -Brilliance Aura should have the normal icon. It's confusing that you've put Endurance Aura's.
  8. -Firebolt renamed to Lavabolt.
  9. -some melee units can attack through walls if they are right at the wall sides.
  10. -Bladestorm now has the Wind Walk icon?

  1. -are they supposed to attack before you get a base?
  2. -Arcane Blast doesn't say what damage it deals (value). Same with Battle Fury (no details).
  3. -Bash's icon changed.
  4. -Battle Fury has the same icon as Reincarnation (Ner'zhul).
  5. -Command Aura's icon->Unholy Aura.

  1. -Fenris Wolfbrother has no hero glow. You could simply add it: How to add Hero Glow without Modeling
  2. -requirements should be grayed and the quest updated showing a message on screen about it.
  3. -there's a weird visual glitch when the great hall is being built as if a part of it is flying somewhere on top of the screen.
  4. -peons are crazy they start building the hall and then cancel or it is being destroyed and then immediately do it again which makes it hard to kill the peon for some time until resources run out, I guess or get lucky with a ranged unit.

  1. -to be close to the original, you should remove the gold rush (bonus movement speed miners get when extracting gold).
  2. -Rexxar!? Anyways, his abilities need proper descriptions. Learn about tooltips: Tooltip Tutorial

  3. -Khadgar has the normal looking Brilliance Aura. No need to have two same spells with different icons.
  4. -I don't think it would have bothered anyone if it remained Carrion Swarm and not Death Wave.
  5. -Khadgar also has Firebolt.
  6. -Teron Gorefield the Lord!?
  7. -in the previous map not all buildings needed to have been destroyed to win. Why not here as well?

  1. -upon loading the game, the advanced build menu is invisible (icon) and positioned after Repair not under. Actually, it's another normal build menu and it doesn't have any tooltip. OK weird, now just exited the program/game and started chapter IV and all the buildings (advanced too) were present (even though I did not have the requirements fulfilled) in the no-icon build menu. After I clicked the normal one and clicked the invisible one again, the other buildings disappeared. It worked fine until now... Or maybe, wait, advanced building wasn't necessary there but I had it in some previous chapters. Also, now you can hide abilities with GUI/the editor so you don't have to mask them with a blank/fake icon.
  2. -Mirror Image isn't clear on what the images can do (life, duration etc.). They even deal damage.
  3. -Wind Walk but you have Bladestorm with its icon on another hero.
  4. -weird dragon textures. I mean the Warcraft III black ones look better. But are you sure these were black and not red?
  5. -rock chunks should be like one attached to the other with no spaces in between.
  6. -Dalaran's mine belongs to them.

  1. -Fire Blast=Breath of Fire and has Rain of Fire's icon which is present on another hero's spell.
  2. -the spell above switches positions with Adamantium Armour on load.

  1. -you could also write the chapter names in the campaign menu for easier remembering of which is which.
  2. -Rend's icon is used on another hero's spell too.
  3. -didn't we kill these two heroes?
  4. -three heroes have Critical Strike and two Shockwave.
  5. -you should try finding another minimap icon for the oil patches.
  6. -Oil Tanker's build menu weird placement without any tooltip.
  7. -there's a weird sound since I built the platform, a night elf building one constantly being repeated.
  8. -the tankers only go for the closest platform after returning from another platform I ordered them to go to.
  9. -I suggest you leave all buildings in like in Warcraft III with them being grayed/disabled until the requirements are fulfilled.
  10. -so why do dragons have magic attack type and the gryphons piercing? Also, is the AoE for the griffins bigger?
  11. -map edges shouldn't be accessible. Model parts get through the ground and can be seen.
  12. -now you could make the peons and peasants also enter the main building like the tankers with the shipyards :D I guess, with the mills too.
  13. -peasants are vulnerable when building compared to peons because they stay outside. I don't know if they can build faster more at a time like in Warcraft III but even so, does the AI do it?
  14. -Gnomish Submarines can attack Zeppelins1? I mean, it's enough you have to waste time searching for them sometimes.

  1. -too bad you can't cast the Whirlwind on water.
  2. -you could complete the ability tooltips and mention their damage/duration etc.
  3. -even Daelin has Rain of Fire?
  4. -Catapults and Ballistae deny Raise Dead if they kill units.
  5. -Cannibalize level 2 says 0 hit points per second after you learn the spell.
  6. -I don't remember but didn't Oil Patches have no collision?

-paladins and demons friends :D

  1. -call for one footman as reinforcements but you get two knights?
  2. -to win you've got to kill the units of the red and white players too.
  3. -Sathera and Krasus don't have hero glow.

  1. -Kurdran has no hero glow and looks like a griffin rider. The character should have a different model.
  2. -shouldn't Deathwing's selection circle be up where the model is? Same with Kurdran.
  3. -can't build shipyards on diagonal terrain.
  4. -outro terrain needs work.

It's unfortunate that it all came down to this. I thought you were busy with other stuff, not with this. We could have worked together if you told me, as i have better resources in stock. I can't say i'm not disappointed but it's ok, this doesn't certainly stops what i'm working at. ^^ good job for the accomplishment anyway.

EDIT: Of course this is not gonna stop me from finishing my own. ;)

Hey, well I did stop back then. But a few months ago I had some free time and wanted to fix the originals up a bit. To which I got the inspiration to actually start the BtDP campaigns.
Sorry I actually didn't know/remember you are also working on this, but good luck on your project.

V. Dragons of Blackrock Spire
This mission seems impossible to me, not enough time to build the base, and after around 10 minutes two enemies simultaneously attack from both sides (with gryphons, knights, ballistas, everything). WTF???
After trying different approaches for about an hour, I just took the starting army and ran through the whole map, keeping Ogre max HP as much as possible, with a few dozens of reloads, finally made it to dragons, captured 4 of them, killed the last one (otherwise the game waits you to capture him too), boom, victory. Fuck this mission.

Didn't have any trouble with other missions. Except maybe the final one, but that is how it should be. Although in Human Campaign the final mission was much much easier and faster...
(I was playing with WC3-Heroes disabled, btw)

Polymorph works on Deathwing, is it intended?

I'm having problems with this and the human expansion campaigns too. I downloaded the files and moved them to Macintosh HD>Users>Library>Application Support>Blizzard>Warcraft III>Campaigns, but for some reason they aren't appearing in the campaign tab whenever I open the game. I tried removing, replacing, and re-downloading the files but they still don't show. I am running version 1.30, so it's not like my copy is out of date.

Yeah, I have 46 other campaign files that work fine. I also have 23 altered melee maps in the Custom Maps folder. I will try the renaming trick. If you have any other campaigns you think would be worthy of adding to my collection, I'd love to know about them. Even if they're sub-par, it doesn't matter as long as it's entertaining. Is there a limit to how many campaign files you can have? That's what I was thinking was the cause.

Yeah, I tried the renaming trick. They still don't appear. I was wondering if other people have had the same issues. They were saying the files would cause the game to crash. Maybe the files are corrupted? Is there any way to fix them on my end? I played Helldoom's vanilla Warcraft 2 campaigns and thought they were awesome, so I can't wait to try these too. I've also emulated both of the games, but I want to try it with Warcraft 3 mechanics like modern pathfinding, control groups, and queuing up units. I found Beyond the Dark Portal pretty difficult, so I'm wondering if this remake would provide me with features that would make the game less challenging.

Ok, I updated the game and the campaigns are showing up now. I'm surprised that that .1 software difference caused such an issue. Thanks for all the help anyways. I'm going to try them soon.

So, I am running 1.27b, and I can not get the campaign to run at all. Human or Orc. The Tides of Darkness ones run fine. I have tried
  • Deleting and reinstalling
  • Adjusting the directory (I know that I had seen something about a directory in the docs folder so I tried making one there as well as the default one)
  • Renaming the file
  • A full restart of my computer
  • A full uninstallation and reinstallation of the game from my disks (which led to me needing to track down a patch file to bring it back to 1.27b)
    • I tried loading at every version from 1.21 to 1.27b, got bupkis
  • Lunching the individual maps from the world editor (which leads to a lack of resources warning that makes no sense at all and crashes the editor)
Is there anything else I can try to get the Beyond the Dark Portal campaigns to run or am I totally SoL?

I can confirm you actually need 1.31 unfortunately, I just noticed this testing something else with the PTR version.
I think not even 1.30 is enough.

@Helldoom
Were there some new features that you used from the newer patches ?
I have your two other main WII campaigns remakes working on 1.27 so what gives ?
If not too hard please downgrade to this "offline version" as me and many others probably would rather not depend on Blizzard and BNet on playing this game or its custom content.

Ok,
So, maybe I'm doing something wrong with all this. But, I've installed my physical copies of RoC and FT, gotten path files from here on Hive.
Manage to get 1.29.2 working just fine. I try and go up to 1.30.4 or 1.31.1 and W3 wont launch or it will ask for my CD keys, which I'll input, then it will crash; giving me that generic crash report pop up box. I can get the warcraft 1 done by LordPerdon and warcraft 2 by Helldoom working, but I can't get Beyond the Dark Portal to work.

So, any help would be appreciated.

YouThere is no legacy version of the campaign, but I would say latest version of Warcraft 3 (1.30-1.31) is required to play this campaign.
The other remakes (Warcraft I by LordPerenolde and Warcraft II by Helldoom) are still working on older versions of WC3.
You mean i cant find old version beyond the dark portal heldoom Custom campaing? Why i played the old version Before on my warcraft 3 1.28

Some people said the game crashes when the latest version of BtDP campaign starts on older version, so you'll have to update your client to 1.31 in order to play the campaign.
