Varangian Guard is the spellcasting successor of the Praetorian Guard, Human spellcasters casting Blood Elven magic, but retaining most of the abilities.

The death of the corrupt Commissar Darren Korman and the dawn of a new era for the Kingdom of Kaloria lead to the Republic's new improvements, the heavy duty Praetorians are now being reverted to the Blood Elf Spell Breakers and recruiting human casters to learn Blood Elven magic and thus the birth of the Varangians, moderately armored, yet flexible spellcasters can deal damage against enemy casters and can learn Spell Steal and Defend from piercing attacks.
