Troll Stronghold

This bundle is marked as useful / simple. Simplicity is bliss, low effort and/or may contain minor bugs.
Main building for Forest/Jungle Trolls. I hope you will like it :). I'll add Ice Troll version after I find texture to replace wood with (wood doesn't fit Ice Trolls, does it?).

Damnnnn. What an amazing model. Only suggestion I have, is to use wood more. If you ever played WoW, you would see that jungle trolls on the Echo Isles use arhitecture more similar to Murloc buildings from WC3. Belive it or not, but your 3rd tier building looks like something Gurubashi trolls would build.

As I was making Gurubashi on a project, this model appears. it's like magic.Praise the Loa! Also, cant you use the ice troll building textures and icecrown doodad ones for the conversion? As much as I like the model and I am a little hypocrite about what I will say, the building is a bit too simetric tho. It might clash when around other wc3 models.

I have been watching. : P

This has been sitting on my desktop for almost a month now, taunting me... I am just sitting down & belting it out.

First I wanna lay a big THANK YOU on @MatiS for popping out a Jungle Troll building (& a Town Hall no less); something this site is sorely lacking in, let me tell you. I've been waffling for a while on how I personally think Jungle Troll buildings should go, but I rather favor the approach taken here (Primitive Logs/Leather --> Ancient Stone). I also kinda like the creative rewrap of the Orc Build animation; might have to steal that for the rest of my Troll structures. : )

I must admit, however, that I feel this could definitely use some more adjustments (and I'm well aware that saying that a month after it's upload means I very well may be ignored). Looking at it by itself, I'm most enjoying the 1st stage (might even use that by itself somewhere...), though I kinda feel the stone additions are a tad... abrupt (important, but how to pull them off better is the question?). But the asymmetry is there, the logs & leather are there, tiki masks are there...

T2 is where I start to really get 'eh'. The transition from 95% wood/5% stone to perhaps 15% wood/85% stone is incredibly jarring. All the cool bits from the original are lost & replaced with a sort of... Stone orb? The log chimney is kept (attached... somehow?), and then some drapes put over one side.
I love the 'ziggurat' feel, with the stairs & all that, but I'm again not sure if it was pulled off in the most ideal fashion.

T3 went from "er" to "wai-WHU". The wood/stone ratio isn't much changed, and that's good in this case. And it's definitely a fascinatingly unique piece of architecture. But we're approaching Misha's Naga Citadel-status in terms of extravagant, crazy T3's. How... Wha... Why... Is that a stream of water, or magic? And that darn chimney is still there somehow, puffing away! : P

I suppose by itself is one thing. However, knowing that when asked, I offered you this piece of WIP work as something to go off of... Well, I can see where the inspiration came from, but I must say that I would love to see a V2 that attempted to hew a little more closely to that image (granted, even that guy didn't get the right wood/stone mix either; it goes T1 -> T2 ok, but then T2 -> T3 is similarly jarring & abrupt; I have some thoughts on it but...). Let me know!

It just comes to lack in aesthetics. You have shapes too bulky, some textures are stretched, some others are compressed too much in a dimension, and their positions don't make much sense in many cases. For instance, those stone pillars coming out to hang a TC flag. Trolls would really have done that with wood.

Overall, use more wood, less stone, to achieve a more consistently trollish theme, and try to think a bit more which is the role of each element, so everything makes sense together.

For now it goes to Substandard. If you ever update it and want it re-moderated, feel free to contact the staff.

First level 4.5 of 5 stars: I love it, but the doors look weird

second level 3 of 5 stars: looks like a brand new building instead of an update from the previous version due to the change of the whole core of the building, also those four corner pillars are very bulky and make no sense

third level 3.5 of 5 stars: looks good as an update from the previous version, but keeps its errors

full resource 4 of 5 stars: it's very useful but it can be better. I will use the first version as a troll barracks
