Timeless Texturing #1 Dwemer Swordsman

My First submission to the Timeless Texturing event;
Dwemer Swordsman

(inspired by skyrim)

EDIT: having an update of this one, after much feedback from heinvers. hopefully its good to go.
important: this texture is meant to be used as an elite, bigger unit, because it has a lot of details.

enjoy and give credit to Misha if you use.

i hope both textures are good, because the optimized one constantly kept bugging in my game.. and i have no clue why.. S:

I think you forgot to compress it... 600kb for 512*512 JPEG content BLP file is excessive. BLP lab reports that quality is set at 100%.

I recommend using the Blizzard standard of 80% quality. This reduces file size to 200kb (1:3 reduction) with minimal loss in texture quality.
Alert: This texture is meant only to be used as a single/dual, Special, elite unit, that is not spam-able, due to a large amount of details that i really don't want to change any further.
What do you mean by this? Why cannot it be spammed?

Hm.. how was compressing done again? ^^ its been way too much time since i did anything with blps

that is more because heinvers keeps saying i overdid the details <w< you can spam it all you want, i just want the thing approved as it is..

Fortunately texture size and frequency content has no impact on render performance as long as the GPU has sufficient memory (which all modern GPUs should have). Only reason people do not use BLP files bigger than 512*512 is that WC3 does not load higher resolution mipmap levels than that unless it is a tga file (uncompressed, file size too large to be practical).

@Dr Super Good Hmm.. I actually hope that Blizzard patches the game up to allow bigger resolutions and really do away with tga files.. well, imo
They do appear to be working on it. WC3 will now load BLP files with a dimension larger than 512 pixels, as opposed to before where it would fail to load such files. However it will not use mipmap levels larger than 512 in any dimension, meaning there is nothing to gain by using such files.

It would be best if they added BLP2 support. Not only would this allow native use of World of Warcraft textures, but the BLP2 format supports many new types of pixel format such as real time compression as well as true uncompressed RGBA.

that's definitely an interesting thought

Hi! This is a pretty cool and detailed skin, however, I really prefer if you change the pale-yellow color to something more vibrant because it looks very unsaturated and dead. I like the concept and the creative use of alpha. Could use some little highlights and shading.

well, that 'pale yellow' is the exact color of Skyrim's Dwemer Armor, unless i don't see things the same way.. I could chat with ya in the PM and update it with you, but nowadays I have many other things to do..
