All your points are true, and yet I still think this is a good map to play to the end at least once.
I think trying to play this map a few times and actually beat it is worthwhile, if you like a challenge.
When making the map, part of the point was to make something that was hard to beat, but beatable if you play well.
The items, while not unique, were extensively balanced for price, vs how much you need them, vs and how much gold you get. The encounters were also balance tested quite a bit to be beatable, but difficult.
The only thing from your list that always bothered me was the pathing, especially in the early forest area.
I also think the map gets a lot better once you get to the second half (the valley, and then the fortress).
Could this map use a lot of polish? Yes.
But at the same time it is well balanced, and challenging.
