I give The Stone of Lys, a 7 out of 10.

All your points are true, and yet I still think this is a good map to play to the end at least once.
I think trying to play this map a few times and actually beat it is worthwhile, if you like a challenge.

When making the map, part of the point was to make something that was hard to beat, but beatable if you play well.
The items, while not unique, were extensively balanced for price, vs how much you need them, vs and how much gold you get. The encounters were also balance tested quite a bit to be beatable, but difficult.

The only thing from your list that always bothered me was the pathing, especially in the early forest area.

I also think the map gets a lot better once you get to the second half (the valley, and then the fortress).

Could this map use a lot of polish? Yes.
But at the same time it is well balanced, and challenging.

Sometimes when creating a map things are not always looking the way you want when creating it.
The new player starts from nothing and needs some sort of guidance. Try to be in the new players brain or even better have a friend play it and ask him for his suggestions in almost every step of the game.

From my point of view the game is punishing the player at start and it gets frustrating.
For you, the map maker, it's challenging but for someone who has nothing to hold on it's really annoying. Walking almos blind, trying to find your way to the quest only to get facerolled by enemies suddenly jumping at you with no effective way to beat them except from abusing creep AI.

I'd love it if you could improve the map. I don't like voting low and I'm looking forward to improve my vote.
