The Last Druid

The Last Druid

Introduction
During the dark days of the Second War, the warlock Gul'dan led an invasion of Caer Darrow, home to the Order of Druids and site of their sacred Runestone. The orcs exterminated every last druid, and hewed their Runestone into pieces. Now, an echo of their power calls out, for the druids were sworn to protect the land, and the doom of Quel'Thalas draws nigh...

Gameplay
Features three extended cinematics, two extensive maps to explore, an underwater submap, exciting quests, challenging puzzles, memorable characters, and a rich storyline woven intricately into the history of Azeroth, from the banishment of the high elves to the fall of Silvermoon, and beyond.

Characters and Places
Caer Darrow
Erected when the high elves first settled Quel'Thalas, the six runestones served to strengthen the land, as well as disguise the powerful magic which radiated from their newly-formed Sunwell. The five Lesser Runestones marked the southern borders of the elven woodlands, while far to the south, on a lonely isle in the middle of great Darrowmere Lake, stood the Great Runestone at Caer Darrow. Built at a nexus of natural energies, the Runestones guarded the elven lands for millenia.

The origins of the Druids of Caer Darrow are shrouded in the mists of history. Unique among high elves, they did not draw magical energies from the Sunwell, but instead exercised only druidic nature powers. The secrets they guarded so carefully through the ages are now lost, however. During the Second War, the Warlock Gul'dan launched a raid on the island, breaking through the Alliance blockade and slaughtering the druids. Their Runestone was pulled down and hewn apart, its magics twisted to form the vile Altars of Storms, from which the Ogre Magi were given their insidious powers.

Though few elves ever visited the druids' island, even during the war when a small number of Rangers were stationed there, many fantastic stories were told about the creatures that dwelt there. It was rumoured that creatures of the forgotten west, centaurs and wyverns, made their home on the Caer and the outlying islands. Remarkably, these savage beasts were rumoured to be allies of the druids. Even more fantastic are the stories told about the Darrow Guardian, an enormous oracle of rock, set in the mountainside. It is said that the druids would sit and listen to the slow wisdom of the ancient giant for many hours. Whether any of these creatures ever actually existed on Caer Darrow, or whether they remain today, is unknown.

Aelir, Arch Priest of Silvermoon
Wise and humble, Aelir is one of the greatest healers in the land. He has always used the high magic of the Sunwell to aid and comfort those in need, serving as an instructor to the clerics of Northshire during the First War, and as a battlefield cleric during the second. Lately, he has been troubled by disturbing visions of the fall of Caer Darrow, and the slaughter of the druids the dwelt there. He has journeyed back to Northshire, seeking the counsel of his old friend Alonsus Faol regarding these troubling dreams.

Captain Tera Whitewave of the Windwhisper
The Windwhisper has sailed the waters of Darrowmere Lake with Captain Whitewave at its helm since before the First War. The elven destroyer received numerous commendations during the Second War, including the Blue Star of Kul Tiras, awarded by Admiral Proudmoore himself, following the Battle at Darrowmere. Escorting Uther the Lightbringer to Caer Darrow, the ship had come under fire from the Alterac fleet led by Lord Adhenholde, commander of the traitorous Lord Perenolde's naval forces. Occupied by this attack, they were unable to stop Gul'dan from reaching the Caer and overcoming its defenders. After sending the Alterac fleet into the lake's frigid depths, Whitewave and Uther were able to rescue a handful survivors from Caer Darrow, but the Order of Druids had been extinguished.

Caer Darrow turned into a wasteland in the following years, forsaken by the elves after its desecration. The centre of the lake was always unseasonably cold, and no human or elven ships ventured near the dark peaks of the isle.

Ranger Tamara Moonwane
Close confidante and loyal lieutenant to Ranger General Sylvanus Windrunner, Tamara Moonwane is among the most respected of the defenders of Silvermoon. A skilled healer as well as a stealthy assassin, there is nothing she would not do for her mistress.

Lord Akkeroth of the Lower Reaches
One of the lesser eredar warlocks, Akkeroth is a favoured servant of Kil'jaeden the Deciever. Akkeroth and his minions have become Kil'jaeden's expert scavengers, searching out the most powerful magics in a world that has fallen to the legion and perverting them to demonic purposes. Incredibly powerful, the demon's only weakness may be his all-consuming obsession with plundering new artefacts and lore.

Indeed, it follows a wonderful story which ties in with the rest of the Reign of Chaos saga perfectly. Also I enjoyed how it managed to explain some of Blizzard's illogical appearances (Sylvanus turning into a ranger from a banshee etc). The quests were well made, and though there were only two playable maps it proved to be a fairly long campaign in the end.

What a good campaign. The story was pretty involving, and there were some pretty unique quests and ideas here. Too bad it wasn't continued (or longer!)

This campaign has always remained in the back of my mind. I loved it; Aelir the Last Druid.
Even whenever I play World of Warcraft I think back whenever I am in Quel'thalas and remember Aelir... and the campaign's sad ending.
Where is Aelir now?

This is the most perfect custom campaign in Warcraft III. Infact, it's even better than the ones blizzard made, in terms of story and everything like that.

The story and gameplay are brilliant; it's a pity that it's so short.

Story was very good, but the campaign was short. Biggest problem was imo that it was far too easy to complete the campaign.. I'd have liked more of a challenge. But despite that I have to give it a 5/5 because it's so complete and has such a great story :p

Everybody's talking about how great this campaign is, but I hit a dead end in the second playable map. After defeating the Eredar in the Library, there was nowhere else to go. All the doors were locked and there were no keys to be found anywhere. I wasted over an hour triple-checking everything before confirming it as a bug, then reading the cutscenes in the campaign editor and skipping ahead to the epilogue.

Not to mention the fact that Aelir's Forest Rune spell is glitched - transforming it into a bear just unsummons it (level 3 required).

Good campaign but there is one bug and I am not sure if it is intenional or not. When you rescue the sorceress that is trapped at the way gate(Last unit you find in part 1), you can just blinkup there. Oh and to the players that cant find all of the keys, try looking in the library.

I got the keys out of the library, but after that I was unable to proceed further...had to open the map in the editor and read the trigger text to find out how the game's story ended, because it was good and I hated to be left hanging like that...dunno if it was a freak bug or what but i explored every pixel and it was stuck

Excellent campaign. Some of the tricks were really amazing - like the tree that falls and becomes a bridge. I get the sense the map isn't being updated anymore, but if you decide to you might want to put a better hint system in place. Sometimes I had no idea what to do. In particular, map 2, after you reach the Sunwell you have to go up to an invulnerable door. I didn't know that, and sailed all over the map looking for the way in. I thought about the door, but it was still invulnerable so I didn't think to just walk up to it.

Anyway, the Dark Ranger appearance was awesome, well done.

The bug with the spawn bear is caused by the fact that it doesn't have the spawn bear ability; it has bear form.

Stuck!

Hi! I must be the first one to find a bug here! Or there's something wrong with my wc3, but at the LAST riddle door (On the righthand side) in the Silvermoon chapter, I do NOT understand the riddle! I know it might be lame to ask for an answer here, but I've put in more than enough effort to find the answer (2-3 hours)

Please, and thank you(s)!

I actually enjoyed this campaign a lot. Although there were lots of unnecesarry environments/terrain in Part II (last chapter) which was a "bit" annoying because I thought it was a path or an important object in some of them, which it wasn't, it was empty ;p Either way, I still enjoyed it a lot. Everything except the terrain/environments get an easy 10/10.

Well done mate, would Love to play some more of your campaigns. Keep it up :)

May someone tell me how to forge a mana battery? I put all the 4 ingredients inside the artificer forge, but I can't do anyhting else. any suggestion?

Edit: I don't give a fuck; sincerely. I've wasted in map 2 a lot of time for something that you should have at least hinted upon. For example, after you kill the boss in the library, you should tell the player that the key that he needs is being carried by a mob that is on the other part of the library. Not everyone explores everything at once, especially when after defeating a boss, on my mind he is supposed to have a\the key. But I guess that for you that's not like that

Add to that that I lost lot of time wandering around trying to understand how your forge works without any hint (yes, I've read all three books and after putting all 4 items inside the forge I've thought that something should come out of it.). But the object is invulnerable and I don't even know what I should do. Well, this campaign didn't satisfy me. I'm not that sure that I shoudl rate, maybe I should wait myself to vent off after wasting three hours of my life in the worst campaign I've ever played? well, no. You deserve 0\5

Edit 2: Why do you make so much useless terrain ? What is the point of the player having to explore empty spaces?

This is the definition of perfect. I didn't have a second of downtime where I was bored. The puzzles are amazing, the combat is well done with all the items and new spells. I've played this multiple times and I have not once come across a bug. The story is amazing, and I would PAY to see another part featuring the druid.

I can see how much time the author spent doing this thing. Everything looked beautiful.
What I do wonder is: Did the author really want to change the name of Sylvanas to Sylvanus? And if yes, then why? I don't see the reason why. Seeing he didn't change the names like Malfurion, Tyrande or Kael'Thas. Why Sylvanus? It might've been a mistake or a typo. But I don't really think so, because he would've noticed it, I guess?

Anyway, a wonderful and amazing experience! 5/5

Seemed interesting at first. It starts with a mysterious chapter and a sublevel (literally) which was a neat idea but then... chapter two is just a pain. Its beginning/lower part of the map is quite entertaining. Afterwards, boredom, easy bosses, illogical story elements and being a chore boy. Yes, most of chapter two felt like it was rushed, done to be done already and not had much love.
Oh yea, the worst part is that it was too short to actually make it feel like a campaign.

chap1:
-Aelir has no hero glow
-Aelir to the Guardian: "Did you call me?" The Guardian told him before that question that he was awoken by elven steps, Aelir's steps"
-Aelir selected and fighting during the scene where he meets the Sentinel
-the Sentinels know that the Hawk has come for the rune even though it is invisible
-the Lord of Alterac spoke to himself about the elf magic creature coming for them
-the crustaceans don't follow the elemental to its starting point
-it might be a better idea to ask before loading a secondary/sub level
-the Khan goes in alone to the Altar; after he dies, the others come too
-after all Ogres at the Altar were killed and the hero neared it, an Ogre transmission shouting for others to kill the elf was sent
-Gnolls still appear where one of their tents were

chap2?:
-nonono, not Medivh...
-Cenarius is also a far seer?

chap2:
-well, how did Kael know it was Arthas there?
-one of the priests where the cinematic mode starts and then two Crypt Fiends appear, had full mana
-life=mana too as the fountain demonstrates
-increase the range of Kael's Mana Burn? He is not melee
-Kael's damage is 3-9... Use something else than reducing intelligence like triggers
-Destroyers are affected by Kael's ultimate
-funny thing: the ranger recovers mana after taking the Crown of Kings from the Crypt Lord
-LOL!: so, the soul of Sylvanas (not Sylvanus) was dragged out of her body and she used another elf to take her soul out so she could get inside her body!? Mind you, Arthas was no mere undead
-why didn't she possess Aelir or kill him?
-doesn't really feel like an invasion if they could pull a stunt like that
-the city looks deserted, not invaded
-Malagoth is so weak...
-Rune of Storms has no level 1 description in the abilities menu
-progress of linearity
-I suggest a backpack or rune type items for the keys or at least unit inventories
-Xara-whatever-is also weak; basically in this part of the level with the Eredar, only the heroes are needed
-Rune of Forest has Bearform that just makes it disappear
-in their description, the rune spells could mention the duration
-the enemy can use Life Steal on Runes
-how are they speaking to the heroes from that distance and how do they know that their brethren are killed?
-optional quest text instead of main quest after killing Akkeroth

epilogue:
-what? That short?

Hi to everyone.
First time poster here.
So ... I downloaded this map here and it does not work. Or to be more specific the following is seems to be the problem: "Nummber of Missons: 0"
So I can not start any campaign.

I tried to download it several times. Can it bee because of all the new patches?
I would realy like to play this campaign.

thx

Hi to everyone.
The file on this site (not in the link written in the description) has a size of about 1.3mb. It works for me on 1.29.2.

EDIT:
Tested it on the latest PTR and it does not work. I am not sure if the same happens on the latest released patch.
@Kam would you mind trying this on the latest patch and if indeed it does not work on it either, please notify your colleagues about this sort of compatibility issue.

EDIT2:
@Karaelmas after saving it on 1.29.2 through the campaign editor (not each map by itself but the .w3n file), it works on the latest PTR too. I've attached the file (you can try saving it yourself with the latest patch campaign editor as a different file).
@Ralle should we save such campaigns this way and replace the old files on Hiveworkshop?

This was a great campaign.Almost believed it to canon. But then remembered that blizzard actually somewhat retconned High Elve druids.

Also feels bad for Aelir. That Night Elf propaganda ain't gonna fly in this continent let alone on Blood Elves/High Elves of all people. Also good to see Sylvanas is a bitch as always.

Honestly i was pretty much bored for most of this campaign. There was cool easter eggs and what not. Like what happened with sylvanus but overall i don't really think its worth playing.

Short and sweet campaign, it is short but it is well made, it could've used some more custom music, very interesting story, the maps and cutscenes are well designed, the canon lore explained in the library is also cool, and using it to win prizes was a nice touch.

Also the clever use of the forge to create items, such a fantastic idea for a short campaign like this.

But at the end of the campaign when the heroes are at max level, it felt very OP just click + A with every boss until the die using my main as a tank with +20 defense, the enemy bosses could've use some spells, didn't even need the regular units just the heroes.

Found one bug: the Rune of the Forest of Aelir in the mission 2 doesn't summon the bear.

Played it on v1.21b.
