Map Info

Requires: Warcraft III The Frozen Throne or Reforged

Gameplay:
10 players are pitted against each-other in a free for all style PvP deathmatch. Once the timer runs out, the world sunders.

A unknown world has sent out a distress signal. During this time all portals used by Arcane magic have become unstable rifting to this world. You're a Arcanist chosen to investigate the *unexplained events* happening in Tebbletown. You will learn about the world and the folk staying here.

Werewolf:
Your goal is to outwit the opposing players and slay them or find the cure, you must feast to keep your hunger up or you will die.

Arcanist:
Your goal is to outlive the opposing players and slay the werewolf.

The infection:
There are 4 waves of infection, the first player to get fully infected becomes the werewolf.

The cure:
There is only 1 cure recipe that can be found with in the game. It's up to the player to decide what they want to do with it. after playing with 2-3 friends, we think it's decent, but it's missing something, secret stuff here and there, something like side quests you can do to get an extra for those who are not the "werewolf" like in Werewolf Transylvania, otherwise it feels a bit simple, we like the shadow things roaming around and damaging if you don't have the cross thing on ur base, but the werewolf player also feels a bit dry or simple to play, events would be cool, side stuff to find and do (apart from the coffins) would be great!

It would be a 3/5 average for us, but with some additions like the mentioned above, and now below, it would be amazing, up to a whopping 5/5 with some events/side stuff optional but helpful to spice things up, so it's less repetitive after the 2nd play

Edit: Also some/most things NEED! a better description, please! idk if it's based on an anime or fiction characters that we don't know of, but some spells buildings and units would be amazing to have it's stats and detailed info so you know what you are choosing/buying/building exactly, etc.

Edit 2 (2023): Like what is a unit/building/skill good for, at least what use would you give that unit/building/skill etc
I re-encourage the fact that we liked the idea, and map, but at the time it felt it needed more content, will try again soon since it has since been updated and update acordingly! :D

After you use Water Burst, the Destroy ability disappears on the Well.
Other than that, a nice Vampirism/Tree Tag-like Defense/Survival map.

Approved.

ADDITIONAL NECESSARY INFORMATION
  • A credits list in the map thread description is required where the names of the resource (models, skins, icons, spells, sound etc.) authors are mentioned along with the specific resource. It would be a luxury to have links leading to the used resources. Credits in the Quest Log would be appreciated too.
  • A detailed changelog in the first post would be helpful to reviewers and notify fans about the newest implementations to your map.
  • Map thread tags are important. Please use those that fit and not more or none.

after playing...
This is probably one of the most confusing reviews I ever read.

secret stuff here and there
I don't understand what you mean by "secret stuff here and there"

side stuff to find and do (apart from the coffins) would be great!
This shouldn't effect a review

like in Werewolf Transylvania
I get that Werewolf Transylvania was a successful map in it's own way but this is not that map, I also haven't played WWT much nor do I like the style of game-play it has also I'm not saying it's a bad map this is me saying I personally do not enjoy it. The map description says it's inspired by the "curse of the werewolf" map not Werewolf Transylvania.

Anyone can make a werewolf map I don't agree that it should get compared to WWT just because it's a werewolf map.

we like the shadow things roaming around and damaging if you don't have the cross thing on ur base
Shadow things you speak of do not damage anything regardless of a cross which does nothing to them, they do have a purpose though which is part of the learning experience.

idk if it's based on an anime or fiction characters
The map is fictional and completely made up.

Also some/most things NEED! a better description
I don't know what you're asking, I feel that most stuff is explained.

feels a bit dry or simple to play
I feel that a couple of play throughs wont get you a full experience of this map. Just because a map is simplified doesn't mean there isn't room to grow or add more content. How do you expect to motivate a map maker based on a 3 out of 5? Why give it a numerical review at all? How are you contributing? Are you giving the proper feedback?

but with some additions like the mentioned above
You didn't really mention anything other than saying it needs more content, which you're not wrong but you're not giving anything to work with

It would be a 3/5 average for us
Honestly I don't know what I'm reading, I think giving a map a 3/5 with a improper review when your getting mechanics wrong like shadow creatures (which is explained in the lore if you happen to come across it). However I do appreciate you trying out the map.

After you use Water Burst, the Destroy ability disappears on the Well.
This is intended to happen, as I've previously mentioned before I don't want you reviewing my maps. For the final time leave me alone.

Review - The Horrors in Tebbletown
(Version September 3rd 2022)
Synopsis: The Horrors in Tebbletown is a unique Werewolf map, where one of the players tries to stay hidden throughout the game until they can win - or turn the game into a tag map. Various mechanics to progress keep the players busy, while the ultimate goal is to stay alive, progress, and collect intelligence against the other players - it's up to the players which of their findings they wish to use.
Map Aesthetics: The map has a gloomy and oppressive thematic feel to it, achieving what it tries quite well. Good job. At times the trees can be visually quite obstructive in a way that is perhaps not so desirable, but I take this has been a design choice. The fog is quite heavy, reducing visibility, but this can be solved by zooming in the camera. The model choices fit each other quite well and keep the map's theme hand-crafted. There are a lot of visual elements, bats, dark flying scythes, and glowing flowers that grasp the players' attention - I am not sure if there's a purpose behind all of these.
Map Gameplay: The map gameplay revolves around building a base and gathering resources. Gold and lumber are relatively easy to come by. Additional resources such as lore books, hides, and more can be gathered through exploring - I feel like there could be more different kinds of resources such as herbs and shrooms available to keep players busy. The map's game flow feels fast-paced, even though there are multiple days and nights of time before the infection progresses enough. More clear map descriptions on Hive could help this, by explaining each building and unit and what they can be used for. Some units and buildings' tooltips and descriptions are not quite obvious, as for example training a boar doesn't really explain what it is used for.
Review Conclusion: The Horrors in Tebbletown is a Werewolf gather-and-seek map for up to 10 players where one player is eventually turned into a Werewolf. The Cure acts as the main story element of the game, while the lore is revealed through exploration - Coffins contain pieces of lore that help the players figure out different gameplay aspects of the map. Various mechanics in the map offer a lot of content and replayability, and once players start to get a better understanding of the strategies and mechanics of the map it plays out differently. Very recommendable map for a group of friends. If players are familiar with maps such as Who is the Killer, this is a more advanced version of the map with more things and planning to do.

Recommendations:
Bug: Werewolf's Endurance Aura doesn't grant him speed albeit implying so.
The explanation icon for various buildings could instead use a Passive command button to indicate it is not usable.
The Werewolf's abilities menu could use a hotkey (does it have one, it doesn't say it?).
The gameplay messages given throughout the game could imply who they are sent to. Werewolf for example gets messages about his Neutral status, the messages could start with "Werewolf - Your neutral status..." or even name the player directly. This would make it less likely for players to blurt out (imagine people playing in a group through voice chat) crucial information.
The description on Hive could be more detailed and include for example screenshots.

Overall the map looks very nice and thematically very coherent. Good job.
