The Death Woods

A Northrend melee map for 4-players.

Description

Somewhere in Northrend life and death are in conflict. Wolfs, bears and Fulborgs represent life, Nerubians, skeletons and revenants represent death. Even in conflict, life and death are in balance, but the current balance can be broken in battle.

Neutrals Buildings

-1 taverns
-2 gob. labs
-2 gob. markets
-2 marketplaces
-4 Lordaeron Summer merc. camps
-6 expanding mines

Creeps

-10 green creeps
-20 orange creeps
-2 red creeps

Map layout

Simetry

- Each player has a defined expanding.
- There is another expanding with a red creep, in the midle point between players 1-3 and 2-4.
- Each player has a defined merc. camp.
- Gob. markets and a green creep are in the midle point between players 1-4 and 2-3
-Marketplaces, Gob labs and a low orange are in the midle point between players 1-3 and 2-4.

Minor notes

-Red creeps loot charged L4, with that you may unlock the ankh of rencarnation in marketplaces.
-Red creeps are L 20, 6-6-4-4 so it is realistic to expand there.
-Marketplaces loot is charged L3 (is important average loot in marketplaces)

Updates

1) Forgot critters, added rats.
2) Improved Nerubians spot to avoid agro. PU L1 in orange troll wolf camp.
3) Decided to do the map layout.
4) Forgot the starting positions in the map layout.

So, this is quite a good map. I only notice the following minor "technical" issues:
-I would add a powerup to every brown creep spot that doesnt already have one.
-The 5-5 spiders look likely to attack units that just want to walk past.
As there isnt more, I don this it would be enough to request and update. Therefore map approved.

Regarding gameplay, there are a few things which I think are questionable, but open for discussion:
-Depending on how the teams spawning (assuming this map is intended for 2v2, which I think is the case), it will be hard to expand before the lategame in a northeast vs southwest situation, as the expansion would be very close to the enemy.
-Some of the forest look larger than they would "need" to be.
-The expansions (except the red ones) are somewhat located in dead ends, which I'm not a fan of. It's just within acceptable limits, but I think that the unpopular tower-turtling playstyle benefits a lot if towers only have to defend attacks from only one angle.
-For non-1v1 maps, imho many more merc camps than Lordaeron Summer are usable.

What I like in particular are the nice combinations of creeps. The map also looks good visually.

thanks!!

1) easy to fix, I will do it.
2) spiders, I imagine the nerubians, I didnt use spiders. it seems easy to fix, I will do it.
Edit: items 1 and 2, done and done.

3) teams, I also was thinking in FFA. in the situation you describe, early will be an expo vs expo, like 2 - 1v1, maybe a bit predictable until someone would try to unbalance it using the others stuff in the map.
4) yup, I overdid with the forests. Thunder Storm Island and the next one comming are better.
5) yeah, thats why also, red creep goldmines , it would be boring without them.
6) I like LS merc. camp because it has healer troll.
