Survivors [v1.63d]

This bundle is marked as useful / simple. Simplicity is bliss, low effort and/or may contain minor bugs.
  • -reduced lava damage
  • -lava birds hp increased
  • -decreased model of mine since it took alot of space away
  • -players can now leave hell (bugfix)
  • -changed spear recipe -> stick stick stone
  • -crossbow dmg increased 50-70 -> 80-95
  • -new specialist item: rifle, slow attack very high range 200-200 dmg

-miner perk fix
more fire elementals in hell
  • -lava under bridge deals no dmg anymore
  • -repair hammer no longer heals heroes
  • -dropping strengthened weapons now changes the hero to bare hands (fix)
  • -less iron in deeper mine
  • -strenghted -> strengthened
  • -battle axe attack speed reduced 2.5 -> 2.75
  • -strengthened weapons lose charges (fix)
  • -bear doesn’t run away anymore when being attacked
  • -brewing greater potion removes mushrooms from the inventory (fix)
  • -endboss monsters low hp/dmg fix
  • -repair time increased 1sec -> 10 sec

Version 1.63 is ready to play! Alot of things have changed, read the changelogs again:

==== Main changes ====

  • game can now be completely finished and played through. The goal of the game is now to kill the endboss in hell.
  • northern area of the map is now the hell part. A portal is required to travel there.
  • implemented neutral buildings which can provide players with additional resources.
  • new difficulty: nightmare (no player revive, no resource respawn)
  • new item: glyph of upgrade, drops on boss death. Can be used to upgrade towers to the last level. (more glyphs will come in later versions)
  • new items: portal, hell armor, hell cleaver
  • new item: lava stone, can be mined in hell (northern part of the map)

  • rare copper can be found in grassland
  • necromancer now spawns after night 10

  • arrow tower now requires 3 arrows to upgrade instead of 3 gold
  • removed buggy shockwave ability from pitlord and added lifesteal instead
  • increased healing cooldown for necromancer 1sec -> 3sec
  • gargoyles damage increases by 1 every night.
  • monsters in the mine are now much weaker
  • armor can be stacked again
  • new boss at night 30 (probably the last one)

Short description:

Collect, craft, mine, build a base and survive the nights.

How to play:
Mine ressources and build a base at daytime, When the night comes, different monsters spawn and will try to kill you. Start off by chopping some trees (attack the trees) and craft some basic tools such as the axe or pickaxe.

Recipes:
You gain crafting points by leveling up your hero. Those you can use to spend on learning new recipes such as Axe, Pickaxe, Sword, Bow, Wall, Towers etc. Once unlocked and learned you can craft them.

Warcraft 3 - Survivors Guide (new items are missing since this screenshot is for the version 1.3)

Items:
There are over 100 items and the most basic ones are:
- Axe (used to chop trees)
- Pickaxe (used to mine ores)
- Sword
- Barricade
- Hoe (used to gather food or plow the ground)
- Shovel (used to collect sand)

Hunger/Thirst/Energy:
Instead of Intelligence, Agility and Strength you will have hunger thirst and energy. Don't let them drop to 0 or you will start taking damage (not for energy). Without energy you can't mine and need to rest first.

Crafting:
Most items (except drops and some others) have to be crafted first. Crafting is made very simple: First you check the recipe of the item you would like to craft.

Ex.: Stick, is used to craft tools and requires 2 lumber. 1 Lumber in Slot 2 and 1 Lumber in Slot 4.
Place your crafting table and place the lumber in the correct spot, then press craft and voila you have a stick.

Monsters:
Monsters spawn during nighttime. Boss monsters spawn every 5th night. Teamwork is important.

Save/Load:
There is a save/load possibility for the PVE gamemode. -save will save your current hero level+survived nights. Loading your character with lvl 50+ grants you better starting items. For example you get a wooden axe as a starting item at level 50 while a level 500 starts with golden tools.

When wielding strenghted battle axe you get a buff saying ur wielding a strenghted sword. The boar has a lot of aggro my friend i managed to use him to make the bosses head to areas with diferent terrain instead of heading for the walls thus i killed...

Are you the author of this map? I had followed it for a while.
There were a memory leak issue and a bug that removes heroes from the game.
Currently, I could not guarantee that the map would work properly.

version 1.62 is just a couple days old and there are definitely no memory leak issues. I played this map multiple times up to 3 hours and there were no such issues. The reviving bug has also been fixed but if it should occur again please send me the replay and I'll have a look.

I played this map with my team for hours in the past days and here's my review. (current level is 56)

what I didn't like:

-Hunger and thirst says when dropped to 0, hero will take damage overtime = what really happens is that it insta-kill the hero (way annoying)
-Beastmaster's unit bear seemed when attacked, flees from battle
-Beastmaster's controlled animals seemed out of common sense tracking orders like moving to distant location, they seem to push on unpassable areas like mountains and stuck
-I'm hating the blindness of towers in the night
-Too fast respawn of resources on mines (common ores), ends up mining again way back to entrance
-spawn points of zombies are surprisingly close to my base
-removing of group where hero belongs every change of tools (i like pressing group 1 for hero)
-changing the page of crafting is too long and interrupts current orders
-having a warrior perk isn't rewarding because hero is not really strong in combat to start with (sword, poor damage, spear=slow atk and difficult to craft in time)
-zombies seem to go only on one player, i was completely ignored when i created my base way distant on my ally.

what I like:
-Day/Night cycle, not too long or not too short, makes more action
-balance mix of zombies per wave, increasing threats over nights
-boss per 5 nights, nicee
-crafting is good
-the mine/deeper mine idea is great! used to gather ores without problem in a well protected base\
-perk system is great! making specialization
-terrain is good

suggestions:
-why not make random event for twist?
-improve combat capabilities of heroes i guess
-fix hunger/thirst penalty

overall, i'd rate it 4/5 for now :D
it's a great game afterall!

I just won night 19 so I would like to give a review now.

Bug:
1. when I clicked unlocking battle axe, I got cross bow instead.

Things that annoyed me:
1. Diamond ores were too hard to find since they were and had any real use except upgrading tower and crafting armor.
2. Bases from -base were useless since there were no water and gargoyles could attack from all sides.
3. Not enough minerals, especially, diamonds.
4. North-east way point of normal mine could not be used as an entrance making it useless for most cases.
5. Bosses should have been appeared at night 5, 10 ,15 ,20 instead of 4, 9, 14, 19 because it is easier to count for players.
6. There should have been some victory screen, not the F-10 EQ.
7. Wyrm died by sunlight. (it would die anyway in my replay)
8. I needed to use share command to share bed, fire place and furnace. They should have been shops.
9. Many items were still not good to be any use yet such as anvil. I hope many updates will come soon!

The rests are good points, of course!

Suggestions:
1. How about changing the theme? such as changing terrain to winter, undead soil, barren, etc.
2. Better towers. It would be great if I could get some towers that could shoot necromancers who had 600 range so I could go mine all days & nights)
3. Upgrading torches -> watch towers, Increasing its range from 1000 -> 1500 or 2000
4. Even deeper mines so iron ores will become common.
5. It could have gone better by having an npc village on the map and it might turn out to be similar to Fortress Survival.

For rating, I give it 4/5 since
Terrain 4/5 : It looked smooth but there was not much.
Game-play 4/5 unique minecraft's crafting.

3. yes this is weird and a known issue, will be fixed in 1.63
4. build a torch nearby or place a torch into the towers inventory (possible in the current version)
5. yes this can be annoying but prevents people from just going straight to the rare ores. (I can't really increase the spawn timer)
6. depends on where your base is. Nights are only 3min so spawn areas are intended to be kinda everywhere on the map so they reach a base asap.
7. i don't know how to keep the "1" even if you replace a unit. If you know a solution then please let me know. Use F1 until then ;)
8. noted .. this "might" change.
9. warrior perk has been buffed in the current version and is definitely worth being picked :)
10. Zombies attack the nearest player/buildings whatsoever, though the wc3 enging is really limited when it comes to these kind of things. But the "bug" you mention is fixed in the newest versions.

Thanks for your feedback but I urge you to test the newest version (1.62) which is the one I uploaded here. I didn't upload other/older versions for a reason yet: they have some annoying bugs. So please try again this version and your rating may change :)

Thanks for your feedback. I am glad you like my map. But please test the new version. You basically rated 1.56 which is compared to 1.62 a lot different. So please play the new version and maybe it will change the 4 stars to 5 :p

You can find the newest version ALWAYS on either epicwar.com (just type in "fireche" in the search bar for authors), ENT or from now on also here on hiveworkshop. MakeMeHost is always a bit behind because they take up to 2 weeks to accept a map, so better stay away from there.

For rating, I give it 3/5 since
Terrain 4/5 : It looked smooth but there was not much.

1. Diamonds are harder to find which is true (but I would like to keep it this way. There arent many diamond places and they don't change so just remember them and you won't have this problem next time you play.
2. Glaive Towers have a high range (1000) but I have already something else planned (wait for the next update)
3. What do you mean not enough minerals? You have 2 mines filled with different ore. The only rare mineral is diamond. I feel like you just havent found the good mining spots yet.

5. they appread in night 5, 10 etc..? when it says "survived nights: 4" then it means you are in night 5, because you surivived 4 nights..get it?
6. There is no "victory" yet ..i am still working on the endgame

1. I don't know how to do this..tiles are very limited in wc3 as you know.
2. Something big is planned which will improve this.
3. Something like this is planned in the new version
4. There is alot of iron in deeper mine..keep playing and you will remember all the good spots ;)
5. In the newest version you can choose from different difficulties (easy would then be the mode you can try for the beginning)

Which bug exactly costed you the game? giving 1 point for bugs is kinda heavy..the current version doesn't have many bugs. (I usually play with friends every now and then for some hours and there is rarely something)

Do zombies invade the mine? one friend hid in a mine during the night and everyone else got killed but the zombies were focusing on the remaining barricades so he survived lol EDIT: Tested this all my party went into separate mines and the zombies started heading south.
Wooden tower = watch tower? i though it was a basic recipe

Hey, which version did you play? In version 1.62 they don't head south when players are in the mine - they destroy the mine and you get kicked out of it. Wooden Tower = Watch Tower, yes they are the same.

I think wing of speed's recipe is wrong?
Yes it is. I already fixed it, wait for the next version.

Had my bear take the backpack and it appeared on the back of my hero :( there dies the dream of having the bear haul in items
I wish beastmaster could tame an eagle for scouting purposes
When you equip a fishing rod you have no damage so in the night you are the last thing the enemies will atack literally
Why do bunnies have the same hp as a sheep if they are faster with a reward of only one meat ? takes more time to kill and give less rewards
when learning battleaxe you autolearn the crossbow for some reason even if you cant afford the second one

hey, i haven't played beastmaster often yet so I am thankful for your feedback. If you are looking for additional slots then maybe tame a pig (which provides 6 additional slots).
Eagle hm, I will keep this idea in the back of my mind. The Fishing Rod problem is a known "issue" but I dont know if I'll change this because fishing takes alot of time (and leveling up the fisherman perk) so getting disrupted during nighttime might make the perk too weak.
Bunny = can carry items, is quick (good for scouting or picking up resources from neutral buildings) while the Sheeps' only purpose is to produce strings.
The crossbow and battleaxe autolearn bug is fixed.

Make sure to check out the new version 1.63 (which will be released tomrorow).

I will check it btw arent you suposed to not go outside cause its a slugfest? fishing in the night beats the purpose plus ur suposed to be fighting for your life not fishing leisurely hahaha and idk if im wrong but my pig/boar had 4 slots? not sure on this one but it was so slow it was dificult to make him survive a night cause i was farming with him and bear items while i had my hero full of queued trees to cut so they went scavenged stuff but couldnt make it back before my friends closed the base with walls thus with the boar/pig speed and his super low hp he got rekt hard
Also for perks lumberjack would be a good idea start with an axe and get a bit more of wood
Tips state that you will slowly die/suffer damage if you start starving but its a one tick trip(instakill)

Regarding my review, sorry about the hunger/thirst, thought it was malfunctioning because it says you will take damage if drop below 1 (when really a text shows "eat or die"), expecting that it will drain the hero's hp, not insta-kill, perhaps change the tips regarding hunger/thirst?

however, I really need a better pc for this map.. LOL!

Hm, maybe it's only 4 slots. You are right. But pigs are very easy to tame. And a pig army is not that bad ;) The instakill bug is fixed.

1) It is said that item "Soul of life" item dropped from bosses can revive other players, but how to use it actually? This item even not clickable and there is no information in Quests about it.

The boar pathing is still horrible he gets stuck in dumb ways against tree or terrain when theres a lot of ways to get around
My friend said hes getting less ores with miner than the previous version
the new mine in the north is missing a fence
Also ideas for perk farmer either benefit for crops or letting allied animals mate if you have a beast tamer of course (dont forget the lumberjack)

Hm, I don't know why the boar pathing is so weird. I tested it multiple times in solo and it seemed to be fine and sometimes its not. I will check it out again but very weird problem.

The missing fence is fine.
You need to put alot of coal in a torch. 1 Coal = 1 minute
I am still thinking about the eagle idea, but thanks. Rabbit/Stag etc meat drop will be adjusted next version. If you want more movementspeed just craft boots.

1. Build an Altar of Kings, put the soul in it, then activate the altar.
2. Yes, when the tower requires a Gylph of Upgrade to further upgrade you put it in the inventory and upgrade it.

Well when you put in just one it last about 2-3 secs lol and i know i was just thinkin of higher level bonuses cause i am already a hundred and something and my friend is almost 200
and about the mine theres another in the south and it was 4 fences :(
have you considered the farmer perk? for crops or for animal reproduction with bunnies and the like just for aditional meat or something

You get additional hit points for each level. I think this is enough :p
Yes I considered the farmer perk since others already suggested this idea but I don't think it's needed or very useful. Lumber is not that important the longer the game. And with a better tool you get to chop a tree in 2-3 seconds. There is also a Lumber Mill somewhere on the map. Animal reproduction is maybe planned for beast master.

Hm, I don't know why the boar pathing is so weird. I tested it multiple times in solo and it seemed to be fine and sometimes its not. I will check it out again but very weird problem.
Mine Perk doesn't work in 1.63. I uploaded a hotfix to epicwar/ENT tho 1.63b where its fixed. Survivors [v1.63] - Warcraft 3 Maps - Epic War.com

The missing fence is fine.
You need to put alot of coal in a torch. 1 Coal = 1 minute
I am still thinking about the eagle idea, but thanks. Rabbit/Stag etc meat drop will be adjusted next version. If you want more movementspeed just craft boots.



1. Build an Altar of Kings, put the soul in it, then activate the altar.
2. Yes, when the tower requires a Gylph of Upgrade to further upgrade you put it in the inventory and upgrade it.

2. Demolish has a passive icon aspect. You can use these to turn it into an active ability looking icon (if you want):

3. Why does player 1/red unlock things for everybody? Some don't even cost anything. Why not have them already enabled?
4. It's a somewhat pretty slow action browsing through those recipes.
5. Berries don't have a description, just Left click to use; same for Apples.
6. The minimap looks kind of weird. Gray stuff.
7. Crafting is a nuisance. Why have it so specific, defined on exact inventory spaces? Why not let the triggers just check for the items in the inventory instead for the combination to take place? You really expect someone to memorize the spots for every combination? To me, this is bad game design and this map's concept isn't bad. Even an older game like Diablo II has done it better (Horadric Cube). It gets worse when you have to split Lumber for example and try to fit the 1s of that item in the right inventory slot.

1. It's not really spam. Every 10 seconds. New players forget about it quite easily which is why the repeating message is needed. As a good player you insta pick the perk anyway so the message doesn't bother. But I will increase it from 10 sec to 30 sec :)

2. Demolish is already using a passive icon, no?

3. Not just player 1. Every player unlocky everyting for everyone. Every recipe costs something, I dont know where you saw free recipes.

4. Yeah true, I am currently thinking about something better.

5. All items have no description. That's the point..you have to find out what each item is good for but its pretty obvious most of the time :p

6. Yeah, well..cant change that lol (the gray stuff is probably the neutral passive units (trees, rocks etc..no idea)

7. Because players might put wrong resources in and often recipes have similiar item combinations (Slot 1 and 2 for lumber is used for 4+ recipes) and if you start with lumber in slot 1 and 2 and it auto craftes something which u dont even want..na..this is kinda bad. I like the current system. It's just a 1 button click anyway.
You maybe have to play it more often..first times playing CAN be exhausting. It's not easy but once u get into it..you remember easily the most basic recipes.

Any positive things aswell? ;)

Miner perk still didn't work in 1.63b Nordmar @.@, are you really fixed it?

Miner perk should be fixed. I will check it and update when needed.

Yeah but in the actual game it's a passive ability. Here it's active, isn't it, eg: you need to click on it to use it?
I dont know where you saw free recipes.
First ones I remember, the pick axe and some of those on the first row.
often recipes have similiar item combinations
Are there any two of the same combinations but on different inventory spots? If not, then it can be done as I've suggested.

Yeah, the concept and the general idea. To me, the biggest impediment is the nuisance of remembering the exact inventory spots for the items and splitting them to position them properly.

When wielding strenghted battle axe you get a buff saying ur wielding a strenghted sword.
The boar has a lot of aggro my friend i managed to use him to make the bosses head to areas with diferent terrain instead of heading for the walls thus i killed them without wasting a single wall.
When using the battleaxe which is a slow hitting weapon if you unequiped and equip again you reset the atack timer.
If you build something on top of a cutted tree it will make the tree spawn somewhere around and thus you can move the tree this way to wherever u want lol
Strenghted battleaxe does not seem to lose durability not sure if this is also true for the normal battleaxe.
i suggest adding more kinds of boots for example boots made of rabbit fur/leather for extra movespeed or bear leather for extra defense
It takes a while but if you spend a lot of time and some resources in moving the trees you can make a tree barricade which is neutral.

After many tries I only managed to live until 15 wave once. So I want to ask you to increase a day time for Easy diffdiculty to 5 minutes, please. Will be appreciated if you will send me a link for map with 5 minutes day in private message or upload new version there if you like my idea.

yeah the boar needs to be changed. Alot of things you mentioned are fixed in the new version 1.63c. Try it out :) New boots is a good idea!

Hm, are you playing on easy? 3min should be enough usually..or do you play alone maybe?

I've played warcraft 3 since i was a kid, and this is one of the best maps I have ever seen, we spotted this gem when it was in alpha, I believe I still have the first version of this map, where the night and day were completely bugged. Nordmar've done a tremendous job patching and improving this map, I have 500 lvl and my record is 30 nights, the map is one of the best I've ever played, simple, but hard to master, interesting and captivating.
One thing I find that needs patching, that is the lag that map causes even for high-end PCs, during the night, esp it begins after ~7th night, the lag is unbearable, my laptop just freezes for 3 mins when we hit the 20th night. Overall 9.9 out of 10, thank you for creating such a wonderful map.

hey, i am really happy that you like my map :D but I don't have any lags when playing..even until night 20+ you are playing 1.63 right?

We are playing 1.63c, lag comes from the amount of mobs on the map, my friends have high end PCs and they get a tough lag, I have low-end laptop and it freezes during the night, during the day everything is ok, maybe it is the amount of mobs on the map, maybe something else, but the lag is hard.

the monster amount is capped at 25(on easy)30(normal)40(hard)
so its very weird that u dont have laggs in the beginning but later one because of mobs.
Maybe a certain mechanic of the map causes the lag? Something that increases throughout the game

I got lags in older versions after night 7+ as well. Since I set my computer power at maximum (hardware acceleration) after that, I could not notice this easily. However, if I try to guess, it may be about your timers or the game timers since some frames per second seemed to be skipped.

I also have a question. Can we grow some mushrooms? I want some mushrooms when I go to mine. Probably, if we could use water-skins or water buckets to water stumps from trees that are cut, it would have been great since it would fix moving trees and provide energy food for miners with only 1 fix.

Speaking of Miner's perk, it seemed it was fixed now in 1.63c with about 50% chance to get one more ore! awesome!

The lag shows itself after around 5th night, but every night it grows stronger and stronger, I believe you can feel it even after the 1st night with a bad enough computer, so something constant accumulates every single night.
