Snow Angel TD V1.4

This bundle is marked as useful / simple. Simplicity is bliss, low effort and/or may contain minor bugs.
(Updated directly after below update, titling changes to snow angel td v1.4)

UPDATED: (3:39a.m. EST Tuesday July 28/09) OUT OF BETA.
This is now a full version map with the following fixes from beta:
-Auto hero feature temporarily removed, going to be replaced with a much more efficent system shortly.
-Creep difficulty dramaticly adjusted to force players to maze and create a more enjoyable gameplay.
-Some icy terrain has been added to represent the pathing that mobs take to reach their final destination, terrain randomizer is still being fixed.
-General lagg and bug fixes.

Coming in next patch:
-Reduced visual lagg from certain abillities such as those in the bloodsong tree.
-Re-Add an improved Auto-Mode for heroes.
-Terrain Randomizer
-Difficulty adjustments as needed.
-Possibly another race.
-Improvements to boss battles.
-Improvements to scoring system and final scoreboard.
-Rewards for completing on any difficulty.
-General bugg fix, and lagg fixing.

Overview:

-5 player Tower Defense style map.
-5 Full tiered races (except for one single tiered-high damage race)
-Over 356+ custom self casting abilities amongst the towers.
-5 Unique heroes featuring some models from fellow hive members. (credits given)
-Randomized terrain within the tower field that presents new strategic placement of towers each game.
-Dynamic boss battles every 10 levels.
-40 Levels.
-Secret ending if beat on Very Hard.

The general theme of the map is that you are in icecrown, playing the defensive roll to stop Razzius the Desecrator from building up an army of scourge creatures. Razzius sits upon his throne as the final destination for creeps. Players take up arms as one of the following:

Bloodsong Clan: A shaman based race with totems being the primary towers, and heavy magical leaders at the end of the tier. Balanced race relying mostly on magical damage.

The Golden Crusade: An alliance of Blood Elves, Humans, and Night Elves forged for a common purpose. This race sets its focus on support, and health + mana regeneration. Low damage race.

Mercenaries: An array of available mercenaries make up this race led by an explosives mastery goblin. 1 Tier race consisting of consideribly high damage towers.

The Brute Alliance: A rag-tag alliance of Orcs and Creatures to form a formiddable fortress. Primarily a low cost tower Mazing race.

The Netherforce: An delicate alliance has been made with this force of undead creatures that seek razziius as a foe. Primarily a high damage single target race with many towers.

Aside from the general gameplay there are lots of items with unique abilities and every 5 levels are a specialty level.

Please note since the play area is open to free mazing, theres only one thing to remember and thats the mob pathing: Mobs start in the bottom left then work their way to the right corner, then diagnoly to the upper left, then straight to the upper right.

Note: Credits for models/Icons ETC can be found inside the quests menu, if i missed anyone please let me know.

It's still needs some work, im currently fixing the hero revive problem in auto mode. Also didnt know creeps werent making a path should you block, they seem to do it only ever so often, ill work on fixing that too. The artwork is from an artist over at deviantart, i'll post a link to it as soon as i can, credits for it should be in the map, if not ill add them in.

Thank you for the replies and ill update it again asap.

After playing it, one major criticism is the terrain. Its unprofessional looking and does not give any of the players guidance. Perhaps divide the area into lanes or zones and split up the spawns for each player. Other then that lots of features and time have gone into the towers/descriptions and items/abilities. Probably need to play it abit more to work out balancing.

Well, i've tried it out now with 2 friends, and i have to say i'm disappointed..

First of all, since it was for 5 players i expected it to be "somewhat" challenging even on Easy.. the fact that we didn't have to maze much and the creeps only came from one direction made it all to easy as it was just a matter of building the early towers and upgrading one of them to get to the next tower and then replacing the first towers with new and better towers all the time..

This was more fitting to play in single-player as more players isn't really needed and you get more money then you could possibly need even with 3 players..

You should really force some more mazing, as of now it was downright boring after a while..

Another thing that bothered us was some of the spell-effects, for example i picked the Bloodsong-race, and the fully upgraded first tower that does the volcano is only really good at obscuring the vision for everyone, same thing with the tower that does the tornado-thingy, you should consider making them a lot smaller..

Also i think i may have found a bug with the final tower of the Bloodsong, when he morphs into ice i think he can both freeze and damage friendly heroes, as there were no boss up and all our heroes got frozen and killed eventually..

Oh well, i'll admit i had some fun with this map (even though my friends didn't as much) and i can see alot of potential in this map, so i hope you don't take this post too harshly, i'm really bad at pointing out the good stuff unfortunately :con:

Im not upset at your post Vaarj, thats exactly the input im looking for in order to make this map a quality map. I'm taking all things into consideration and will tweak difficulty and the mazing structure.

"After playing it, one major criticism is the terrain. Its unprofessional looking and does not give any of the players guidance."

Yes i apologize for the terrain, the TD orignally used a random terrain generator that i made to create an assortment of obsticals and height / unbuildable terrain differences. Unfortunately after testing through b-net, when the terrain was generated, it was causing a disconnect problem. So for now its removed and theres just a default terrain, but in a future version i plan on re-implementing this feature as it was alot of fun the first few tests it worked in.

What im working on now:
-General Bug fixes (Heroes not rezzing in auto-mode / towers damaging friendlies / final 3 boss battles need tweaking)
-Game Difficulty: So far this been my hardest objective, i need more extensive testing to see what exactly needs to be tweaked to make for enjoyable gameplay.
-Fixing the Random Terrain Generator.
-Speeding up gameplay to reduce downtime making for a faster more enjoyable game.

Keep the input coming im trying to get an update out by the end of the month with as many fixes as possible.

Heres the update i promised before the end of the month, the game is much more playable and enjoyable now with the improvements. Alot of the bigger stuff is getting set back because of work and spending more time with my daughter, ill get it into the map asap. Thank you for playing and please DONT BE AFRAID TO GIVE CREATIVE CRITICISM! I want to make this map the best it can be.

Hi silver,

I decided to try your map in single player, and here are some of the things that I found, and my settings:

Race chosen: Bloodsong
Difficulty: Easy

1) The creeps can still be blocked easily. Ok, normally they would bash their way through. But in this TD, the base towers (those towers that cost 5 gold, then upgrade up to volcano) have a LOT of hitpoints. So, the creeps would take a long time to kill them. However, if you decrease the tower hitpoints, the bosses would kill them easily.

2) I was on my way to passing in single player, on easy. I got to about lvl (30?) when I had to quit because there was a prac on in my lan :(
The problem is, if the map (any td map) is playable on single player, then it becomes ridiculously easy, as all the gold is concentrated in on area, so the player can build the most bad@ss towers. Its a weird balance bug.

3) As you say, I think the boss battles need work. Are the bosses only supposed to fight your heroes, or your towers also? I ended up making my hero run like !mad! to escape from the boss lol. Granted there are supposed to be 5 heroes, so I suppose that is realistic lol. I suppose I didn't really get the proper experience of it heh :) Although I did have all the best stuff for my hero (damage items, lifesteal etc)

4) Perhaps consider making like a square tile or something at each of the pathing points, so that people actually know that there are points that the creeps must reach. It will make it a lot more player friendly (although they would soon enough figure it out, if they didn't sink first lol).

5) Those volcanoes and whirlwinds are still a bit big :(

Well, thats most of the bad stuff that I noticed. Best to get it out of the way lol. Otherwise, its a pretty good td. Its got rather cool spells/heroes, generally good towers and the boss idea/concept as implemented here is new to me. I also like the fact that the players start off with a hero, and the hero actually can get some nice items to make them effective against creeps. I find it annoying to have to train a hero in TD's, after spending a lot to get the structure from whence they are trained.

Just a few ideas that I had when I was playing it...by no means complete :)

Cheers
Seralas
