I thought about adding the turrets, but in practice they were too small and caused some odd texture bugger-ups in game.

*Edit for anybody who sees this.

There is a problem and I have no idea how to solve it. The skyfire gunship (when flying) de-renders itself if the camera passes its origin point by a bit, and it is more than noticeable on-screen. Any idea how to fix this?

The Skyfire:
The Skyfire is one of the most powerful Alliance flying warships that was seen through the Lich King, Cataclysm, and the forgettable Mists of Pandaria expansion. In addition to its numerous cannons, it was the only gunship that is equipped with a pair of harpoon guns seized during the Northrend Campaign. The Gunship was manned by Sky Captain Swayze and when Deathwing destroyed a large unknown Horde Gunship. The crew of the Skyfire was responsible to deliver the adventures via parachute on the back of Deathwing. Tragically, both Swayze and the orc Ka'anu Reevs were thrown off Deathwing's back during this maneuver, falling hundreds of feet into the Frozen Sea. The Skyfire has had a complete overhaul since its encounter with Deathwing. It now carries as well as a battery of 18-inch smoothbore shore bombardment cannons. To date, it is considered the most powerful ship in the Alliance fleet. The Skyfire was once an instrument of peace, hoarding both Horde and Alliance adventures. But with the new Sky Admiral Rogers taking the place of Sky Captain Swayze, it has only become a beacon of war and hatred for anyone who is Horde, as the boring and uninteresting Sky Admiral is only blind by her hatred.

Difference from the Original Gunship:
Every Alliance Gunship was two large man cannons concealed in a bunkers in the front part of each gunship. Something which this Skyfire is missing and lacks, but since it's a warcraft 3 rendition and no missile is really made for this. This model is perfectly fine. However, it does not feature the harpoon guns and the additional powerful cannons the Skyfire had received. Therefor, this looks more then an ordinary Alliance Gunship, but should still be considered as one of the most unique models, as Herr Dave did a splendid job and brought us something really new and exciting to enjoy.

P.S:
This is not the gunship from the trailer, as you can see from the description above. No Harpoon guns or similar cannons were on Varian's flagship, unless Blizzard again decided to alter the lore fitting to them. However, for me. This is not the Skyfire and not even close to it. Legion fans are just too hyped again for an expansion which I know is nerfed. ALSO, keep in mind the main cannons that are in a bunker are in the middle portion of the flagship, while Skyfire's is located in the front area. Yea, not the same gunship. Sorry, Legion hyped fans. <3

Oh pissing blimey, I was under the impression that the alliance had but one sky ship.

When I made the model, I had not seen or heard anything about legion beyond the first mini-trailer that was released. Here is the picture I worked with during the development.

When it came to the attack animation, I looked at other flying units and couldn't find anything that would look right on the Skyfire. I toyed with the idea of adding a cannon/grand bombard in the mouth of the eagle, but I couldn't make it look good without tilting the head back so far it looked almost straight up.
However, after those attempts went up in flames, I settled on no attack animation for now.

I also tried adding the little cannons on the sides as displayed in the picture above, but they turned out too small and I couldn't make them fire at a specific target without clipping from the particles or making it look dreadful, really :(

I will add the bunker things on either side of the deck, but I don't think I can get them to fire properly. So I will toy with the cannon in the front idea once again.

Sorry about the disappointment, I'll get to work on it as soon as I can.

Why not use the typical "star" effect from the Siege engine and a smoke particle from the rifleman is thinner enough to no overlay with the other cannons.

Or take some liberties, put two cannons on every side and call it a day. I don't think people will complain about the number of cannons compared to the wow model.

Having some serious problems with MdlVis now, every time I attempt to rotate the particle emitters, the editor unhelpfully gives me the brainless "Access violation 004A230A - Write of address 00001020" which means absolutely nothing to me.

Having deleted and remade the particle emitters twice now with the same result I am out of ideas. This problem managed to break the death animation smoke and made the model very finicky to work with.

Not a disappointing model at all, Herr Dave. If anything, work and design your own unique Alliance gunship. The two cannons on the side could be used for spells, such as major moves. While the big cannon in front you had an idea could be just implemented normally. :p As I said, it's an unique and wonderful experience. Great job.

This is fantastic; one of my favorite models from you yet (and I'm no Alliance fanboy). Really well-done and just strikes me as something I could easily see in Warcraft proper. I might have to zing you a Request or something. :p

I agree with the others that it could really stand to have some way to attack (anything; a cannon, a set of guns, a harpoon, something), but I recognize that it can be "easier said than done"; good luck in that.

I have an idea for the cannon: put under the front plate, they pull an window for it open, moving plate parts would be connected to bird head with rope/chain, main cannon fires once and then is closed again, is an "spell attack" anim.
Even if you dont add cannons its still useful as an mobile base/alliance carrier.
I remember its northrend iteration was armed to the teeth, maybe you would like to do the armed version as an alternate model based on this instead modifying this one.

Oh and how dear i forget to say: amazing work!

Just one thing which crossed my eye. The door to the "cabin" is seafighting with the cabin itself (the flickering means the mesh which the door consists of is directly on top of the mesh which is the cabin).
You could move the door just a tad towards the middle of the ship to prevent this.

That will be fixed in the next version of the model, the model I am working with right now has it fixed.

I return after a bit of a break, gentlemen!

@infrenus - I tried adding the mortar cannon's texture, but it didn't look quite right. It kept being-- odd. Though I will add a brass brace around the cannon, that was a good idea.

@JesusHipster - I had to fit the teamcolor on the airship somehow, as the picture had blue around the turrets and propeller blades, I figured "why not" and added them. Though I do agree the side-turrets look strange, try as I might I couldn't get them to look good.

Animation-wise, I acknowledge that it is a little stiff and angular. This is my first time animating anything that is effected by the air. I couldn't use the goblin zeppelin because it didn't move as much, and I couldn't use the gyro-copter because it moved way too much.

I'll need to find someone who is willing to animate it, if it is to get better than it is now. That or I need to fiddle with it for a week or so.

Amazing, though I kinda thought it uses in-game textures.

Wrappings seems to be fine enough, though I see that the bird's lower beak doesn't really seem to be noticed. Others are fine enough for me
The mesh is really well made, so nothing on that one.
Animations seem to be similar to other models that I've seen, simple, but cool.
Oh yeah, the skin looks very good, so 5/5

Just commenting so that i can give you a 5/5!

My only issue with it is that it will kinda fall through the ground in the death animation. I would rather have it fall a bit and then explode. I love that it has a little door leading to a balcony/boarding platform on the back.

Btw, has anyone here ever played Guns of Icarus?

I need to find someone who can make it explode, thats a problem I bumped into early on as all I could do with particles is make muzzle flashes or puffs of smoke.

I played guns of icarus, and when I found that the game had no bots I just-- fiddled around on the main menu because nobody I knew played it and (to my knowledge) you need a minimum of around four people to pilot a craft?
