Sharpshooter Online v1.20b

Sharpshooter Online [v1.20b]

Sharpshooter Online is a team based first person shooter capable of being played with friends. Arrow keys and WASD are treated as if using a joystick rather than a mouse for aiming. Experience sharpshooting from a rifleman's eye in this remote mountain range war zone. Dominate your opponents by blending in with your environment and snipe them down one by one from extreme ranges. May the strongest team win, game ends after one team reaches 25 or 50 kills.

Updates:

Sharpshooter Online v1.20b Release

  • Vast majority of changes and new additions, and will be noted at a later time.

Sharpshooter Online Beta v1.1 Release

  • Knife ability has been tweaked and now also appropriately plays secondary sound when stabbed.

  • Grenade explosion timing has been shortened by 1 sec.

  • Tower steps are now aligned correctly, directly approach them to climb up.

  • Game will now end after a team reaches a score of 50 with 6-10 players including computers, and a score of 25 with 1-5 players followed by a short victory and defeat cinematic.

  • Health bars have been removed, and no longer appear on your screen.

  • A few miscellaneous tweaks and fixes.

Features:

  • Fully functional movement system via 'Arrow Keys'.
  • Complete scope and movement view rotation via 'W'A'S'D'.
  • Dynamic shooting of head, chest, and leg body detection.
  • Destructible environment including barrels, trees, and walls.
  • Misc abilities such as knife, grenade, and sprint.

Additional Information:

  • Arrow keys will move you around while W'A'S'D keys rotate your view.
  • To shoot press (T), but make sure you have remaining ammunition.
  • When you run out of ammunition the reload ability will appear. By pressing (R), you will begin reloading your weapon.
  • Pressing (S) will enable you to move faster until pressed again or when your breath runs out below your health.
  • When someone is too close to shoot, knife them! By pressing (E), you will attempt a fast and painful slash.
  • To throw a grenade, press (G), but remember you only have a few. Grenades are very useful for destroying building walls as well as players.
  • The aim feature is a magnified scope that appears when you press (A). You will not be able to move, but you can simply exit the mode by pressing (A) again.
  • The sensitivity control with the given camera icon will increase or decrease your aiming sensitivity. By first pressing (Q), three abilities slow(Q), medium(W), and fast(E) are given. These may be simultaneously pressed to prevent interruption of tweaking. Combinations are as followed: (Q-Q), (Q-W), (Q-E).
Most of all, have fun... It may be hard at first, but once you get the hang of the controls it gets easier.

Important:

Sharpshooter Online is currently a beta, therefore is not final and subject to change and be updated. I'm uploading this here due to many people wanting it even though I did not consider it near good enough quality to release yet and quit working on it for some time, but better now then never. Since it is currently in the very early stage, no more than 3-4 players will be able to play in a stable manor until a later time. Feel free to try more, but you will notice a large frame rate loss. Remember, this map is in no way perfect, it will have many bugs and issues. Anyone who wants the unprotected version due to curiosity or the interest of editing the map may email me at [email protected] or just private message me here on the forums. Unprotected version for everyone once I clean up the triggers to be editable, someone else may have to fix the lag issues. Feel free to comment about any bugs or suggestions.

  • It is also recommended host use List Checker, Dota Client, or any type of third party Lan program for better response time.

After I had played this map it left me in shock. I was amazed by its brilliance. This is a basic FPS conversion into a warcraft map. The games command are a bit slow and that remains a problem, however it couldn't be done much better I suppose. I assure you that if you play this map either 1v1 or Full House you will have tons of fun and I recommend this map to any warcraft player. Thus the rating is 4/5 (Recommended) and the map is Approved!

Is the first person arm/rifle an ingame screenshot?

Edit: I don't care, testing.

Edit2: WOW... the awesomeness of this map cannot be countered. This is the first time I've ever seen an FPS without an addon- an FPS done RIGHT! Bravo! Bravo!

Edit3: Is it possible to add more FPS for the reloading/shooting/knife/grenade sequences? They look nice, but you may want to consider it...

This is most amazing thing I ever seen made in warcraft.
Since it's beta ver I believe there will be more weapons in complete ver. Do you plan to add machin gun or different type of grenades?
And it would look better if you use imported trees. Not shore if there are any for winter though.

Adding more weapons would be better. Oh, as well as a targeting reticule.

I've got another idea: give the game the ability to look IN ADDITION to strafing. I.E. arrow keys for movement and WASD for looking, and remapping the ability slots? Good idea?

Increasing the frames per second for all animations is a possibility but it was decreased to keep the map size down. Creating filters and animations for them is very time consuming as well. I really cant say if I will be adding any more guns. I recently took out the other gun which was a rifle because it just took up too much room but its definitely doable. Im trying to keep it limited for the moment so I don’t confuse anyone with a plethora of options and my main goal for the time being is doing anything I can to increase framerate for players when over 3-4 players in one game which is the main issue currently with this beta.

I will most likely change it so the host can select how long the round will last and the team score limit, the beta version is basically so people can play and test it out and I wanted some kind of game completion. Stage areas I am not quite sure about. The original map was decreased enormously because just having too much on the screen created a big toll on framerate. Possibilities are slightly bigger maps, but most likely more stuff in each map instead that will try to make it unique, the current map is more of a test environment.

Nerhzul, I am not really sure what you are suggesting about a targeting reticule. There is already a scope in the game that appears when you press A. If that isnt what you mean then feel free to evaluate. ASDW is a consideration actually, but not quite what you are talking about. I am not actually sure what you mean by looking. I have considered using ASWD not to move but as a tapping feature. Because arrow keys are somewhat delayed online, you can tap any of the ASDW keys constantly to slightly rotate your view while you are using your scope which will hopefully if implemented correctly, make it easier for some people to hit targets accurately or even moving ones. While your not aiming, the four keys will act as a larger turn so you may quickly shift to another direction when maneuvering . Strafe would not be applicable for this because it is impossible to use press and release detections for anything other than arrow keys without using a 3rd party program client to change the engine which would be straying away from what I wanted to do.

Im pretty busy now with a lot of other stuff, but Ill work on updating and tweaking things as well as changes that any suggestions might offer that are very good but for now, Im awaiting my Pending for this map to be changed. Seems to be a lot of submissions this month so it may be a while. All updates will be changed here and noted in the update section whenever I work on it.

"Looking", as in turning around and looking up and down. Similar to using a mouse in a regular FPS. A targeting reticule as in the little "x" in the center of the screen for most FPSes, so that you don't have to always have to zoom in with a scope to shoot. When I hosted this, the players sometimes got close, and were unable to do anything besides knife eachother. The reticule, combined with "looking", would make a much better experience I think.

Ill see what I can do regarding controls and easier playability, however I wont have time to update any time soon. It seems either the pending is a bit slow on the approval or this map is not going to be. However, I would like to see more people testing out the map even if they have no interest in it just to get a wider idea of what people think and things to be improved. All comments are taken with importance.

Can't have a duel analog system since arrow keys are the only keyboard event you can have.

HappyTauren, that would be wonderful but making weapon models for a first person shooter would be very difficult and I couldnt possibly ask of someone to spend countless hours doing it. ^_^ Sadly, I wont be updating much until I fix the framerate issue, and I dont really know how long that will take because it might require some redoing triggers unfortunately. (side note: Is this gonna even leave pending?)

Obviously not, because it is a SHARPSHOOTERS Map, not a modern warfare map. and if you had read the name of the map, you would obviously know that.lol.BtW, YOU, ARE, UBER, LEET!I, Luv><YOU!lol.Aka sweet map, keep up the war effort.

This map is awesome.
All I have to say.

Though, if possible, a zoom function would be really nice. One that zoom = decreases rotation speed, and zoom out = increases rotation speed. Affects accuracy somehowe too? Just an idea. :)
+r
5/5:thumbs_up:

Edit:

More tools such as claymores, tripwires, etc would be nice additions to the map. Changing rifles at a vendor? Perhaps different ones reload faster than others or do less damage but have more capacity? My Suggestions. :)

I love this map!

:) yes, I was asked to update this map again by a group of individuals and have began modifying it. the control scheme has been redone so arrow keys act as a FPS should, and WASD controls rotation by frequent tapping. It sounds bad but it is a lot better and adds more possibilities to the game. there will be alot of tweaks and small changes as well, it will just develop as I am editing but I dont want to spend an extra month changing all I want so I am keeping it limited. a major fix however, is collision has been redone so that there will no longer be frame rate drop when everyone is moving. there will also be for now three game modes, team death match, capture the flag, and elimination challenge.

i have been getting loaded with work lately IRL so it will take a while to get it finished considering the huge amount of bugs that have risen from the changed systems but it will get done, just dont know when and it will be a non BETA since it will be fully functional with 10 players and should be playable through ListChecker with tolerable delay, I hope anyway.

How the hell do you made this map? 5/5 Of course.

If you're in need of weapon (item) models, there are many of them. But as i remember, they're all modern warfare weapons.

I think no additional weapons are needed, but if you just add a pistol as a secondary weapon for all Players, I think it should be awesome.

By the way isn't it really hard to use WASD and arrows while also controlling mouse?

EDIT: oh and PLEASE REMOVE the dancing figure at the initial of the map.

Beg to differ. Currently using a map that uses invisible trackers and regions to track mouse movement. a bit unresponsive in "blank" areas but can be tweaked. Also current system doesn't place trackables along ground or sky but would fix the "blank" areas. Unfortunate I do not know jass well enough to add those into the system.

I do have a map ready for proof of concept. (unresponsive in "blank" areas). Also will not track through leaderboards.

BTW I've basicly taken over this project.

heh, i wish you all of luck in making use of the map, theres probably alot to be improved as well has rewrite in jass, im just too lazy to finish the map. maybe ill make a zombie survival map fps some time, I dunno. heh, i still havent uploaded the newest version that has quite a few improvements, i just never got around to finishing the version.

just a bit of heads up, focus on making the map fun and less complicated as sniping gets pretty boring fast when everyone is being one.

bounty hunter2's Sharpshooter Online Review

I have tested this map after scooping through some of the older maps yesterday. Played it 1v1 so I couldn't behold the actual experience however I think I have seen well enough.

Sharpshooter Online is a FPS conversion into a warcraft map. Each player is assigned one unit who he controls. You have some weapons at your disposal and your goal is to eliminate the number of enemies needed for victory.

I have played quite some FPS conversions and I must say that this one impressed me the most. The conversion itself is done outstanding giving the player the actual FPS feel as you can see your weapon only. While walking along the terrain, that was done pretty decently, you can experience a real FPS feeling. I must add that you really lack a custom tree models. Warcraft ones are basically ugly and a imported model usually doesn't take much size. Especially if it is a tree. What I don't like is the "slowness" of the map, as you control your characters by arrow keys, you look around with "w", "a", "s" and "d". And you fire with "f" and mixing them all up is a thing that will often happen to you during play.

To conclude, this map was done really well and I can't complain much. I can only recommend it to anyone and thus the rating is 4/5 (Recommended) and Approved! Good job!
