The armour definatly needs alot of work, it looks rather plain and bland, you need much more detail on that if it's to stand a chance. I'm no skin expert but I think you'd be wise to read some tutorials first before you work more on this :p

Edit: Am I right in saying the skin is the same as the origionals? as in the shamans skin, not the file :p

Ah yes, my sister used Gimp 2, just wanted to make sure you weren't trying to use paint for it cos that'd give you an extremely good reason as for why you were finding it difficult to create the same things like the ones in the tutorials, well I wish you luck in improving the skin to a much greater quality and speed to do it before somebody comes in with comments such as 'lol?' and 'wtf?' which we all know aren't very useful. :p

Is metalic the word your looking for? anyway, what type of armour is it your going for, each require a differant approach as to how to make it look good, until the type of armour is made clear it'd be very difficult to give you good feedback on what you should do to it other then 'read a tutorial' which is used mainly when you can't think of how to describe what is actually wrong with the skin or if it's rediculous, in this case I'd say the former.

As well as That is correctly shaded?

Nostalgia Time!!
When I was doing crappy skins a few years ago with no tutorials this is what i ended up with

Yeah I'm trying to get the highlights to work and I use his tutorial but his metal effect is different from the kind I want. Instead of the polished metal its more of a rough stoneish/Knight armor needed the kind of warlocks used.. Ive been using HSV Noise and motion blur and trying to fix in the highlights

BTW updated it again trying to go for more detail.

http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/2d-art-tutorials-281/mr-goblins-tutorial-110127/ agin.
I believe it has the part of how to do stones right... so you could still combine the look and techniques..

and.. do not use effects like motion blur and stuff.. it degrades your skin and is not considered "freehand" as you should do..
so.. rather stick to the good ol' brush and its options :3

EDIT: ...not likin' the red splatters you call runes..

so.. lemme get something straight.. You're putting metal parts on surfaces that when applied to model end up in an animated part that moves in the wind? what would that be? Living metal? :D

I'd suggest ya, if ya want the metal on, to take a good look at shaman animations and then paint up the parts you want as metal so that they don't move/flap in the wind
or.. make segments in metal to compensate

the robes look really strange because they're intended to be fur and you made them into cloth.. especially the head
