Romance of the Three Kingdoms v6.4c

Romance of The Three Kingdoms v6.4c

A map inspired by Dynasty Warriors Series, Romance of Three Kingdoms Series, and Tiger Knight: Empire War

Background History

The setting takes place during the late Eastern Han Dynasty in 190AD, an era that was considered as one of the most chaotic times in Ancient Chinese history. It slowly began with the incompetence of the Han Emperor, formally named Emperor Ling of Han. During his reign, he focused his attention on women and lavish living, and allowed the Imperial Court to be ran by a group of corrupt eunuchs, who imposed heavy tax rates on the citizens across the country. This eventually led to the crumble of the Han Dynasty, provoking rebellions to arise. Soon, many officials in various provinces and regions began to lose faith in the Emperor and decided to claim themselves as Warlords in attempt to unify China and establish a new Dynasty!

Gameplay

Summary
This map allows a maximum of 10 players who will experience the lives and hardships of the renown Warlords during this chaotic time. Each Warlord has their own unique advantage, whether it may be income, position, special units, heroes, events...etc. Players will need to decide on their own diplomatic relationships in the game, and slowly expand their lands until the entire China is unified into one single colour. Different regions will offer a different set of Generals to be recruited, as well as unique special units to be enlisted. Thus, one will need to capture additional lands to gain access to more advantages.

Units
This map features 30 unique units that can be trained; however as mentioned above, you will have to conquer the entire China, in order for all 30 unique units to become accessible. Each individual unit in the map can be countered, and this is assisted by tooltips present to guide the basics of the unit counter system. For instance, Pikemen counter Cavalries, Imperial Guards counter Archers, Ranged counters Artilleries.. and so on.
full
full

Heroes
The heroes in the map is divided into 6 different classes: Leaders, Strategists, Ranged Generals, Melee Strength Generals, Melee Agility Generals. Each hero class has an unique set of abilities. The hero abilities are made quite straightforward, and mainly fall under auras and passives. In addition, to make each hero much more unique aside from the unique custom models, most heroes have their own unique default passive. Efforts were made to avoid active damage spells for balancing sakes. The hero attributes are scaled based on the stats provided by the game, Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII.
full
full

Income System
Like many strategy maps in Wc3, the main income source is based on the numbers of cities owned by the player. Similarly, different types of cities will provide a slightly different amount of income. There exists 6 different types of cities: Minor City < Developed City < Major City < Capital City < Imperial Palace. The type of each city is determined based on the prosperity of the cities during 190AD in China, which also mimics the game, Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII. In addition to city income, players can also train tax collectors which are available from marketplaces of each city, to collect gold from vaults. Other income options also include capturing Sea Control Points, investing in Farmlands/Trade Markets, or simply trading resources at marketplaces.

Terrain and Structures
As this map takes place during the 190AD in Ancient China, it is essential for players to instantly get a very strong feel of the traditional Chinese culture, when they enter into the game world. Hence, extensive model searches were done in attempt to mimic the Ancient Chinese World, which include specific tree doodads, buildings, units, and historical landmarks.

Events
As a gamer myself, I do notice that simply producing armies, capturing cities and warring against enemies do get boring and repetitive at times. So, a key feature of this map is the Special Events that are not commonly seen in traditional RTS custom maps in Wc3. These events are present to serve a few purposes such as introducing additional objectives for players to complete, encouraging players to follow the historical paths, and adding depth to the complexity of the map. There are three different types of events that can occur: Random Events, Historical Events, Player-Specific Events. Random and Historical events will occur naturally and does not require player intervention, while Player-Specific Events require specific players to satisfy a given condition, in order to trigger the event occurrence.

1. Random Events
  • Hero Illness
  • Pirates
  • Bandits
2. Historical Events
  • Blood Letter by Han Emperor
  • Rescuing Han Emperor
  • Emergence of White Bengal Tiger
3. Faction-Specific Event
  • Establishment of Wei, Shu, Wu Dynasty
  • Finding of Imperial Sea
  • Battle of Guan Du
  • Assassination of Dong Zhuo
  • Oath of Peach Garden
  • Emperor Abdication
full

Adjutants
Adjutants serve as the second in command, assisting the leading Generals in devising strategies and offering support on the forefronts of the battlefields. Adjutants in the game are essentially the stronger form of the elite units, as well as offering additional positive auras to nearby friendly units. They can be distinguished from normal units by their larger model size and the special effect positioned overhead of their models. The adjutants were selected based on historically references, in which they were actually the primary leaders of specific elite units in game. The adjutants cannot be specifically trained from a building, they can be obtained in two ways: (1) 5% chance for adjutants to spawn every time an elite unit is trained, (2) Adjutants are guaranteed to spawn once a player has recruited at least 12 units of a specific elite unit type. Note that each adjutant can only belong to a specific player at a time, hence no duplicates are possible. Adjutants can be recruited again, if they have fallen on the battlefield. Finally, Adjutants are units, therefore do not gain experience or skill points.
full

Political Ideology
Political Ideologies are the sets of basic beliefs and values in politics, economics, social and cultural affairs. It is exactly the ideologies of the rulers themselves value that determine the rise of a Nation or mark the dawn of an Empire. Now players in game will have the opportunity to select on their own ideologies based on the options that appeal to them the most. Currently, there are only perks and no disadvantages that come with each ideology; however, improvements on this new gameplay will be made in future updates.

full
Buddhism, one of the four major religions in the World, has influenced and shaped the Chinese culture, philosophy, literature, arts, and architecture for over 1900 years. Buddhism endorsed the ideas of Equality, Mercy, and Selflessness, which were widely accepted and respected by the Chinese society. The earliest record of Buddhism in Ancient China was during the reign of Han Emperor of Ming. In 64 AD, a 6 metres tall man with a glowing scalp who claimed to be from the West met with the Emperor in his dream. The Han Emperor trusted that this peculiar dream was a sign of good fortune, and sent off numerous officers to travel off to the West to search for the man in his dream, also known as, the Great Buddha.
full
Women played a vital role in the private life of many Ancient Chinese rulers. They were not only important for producing heirs for the thrones, they were primarily needed as entertainment. It had always been difficult for men to pick between either their Empires or women, but of course, there also exists tales of exceptional Leaders that acquired both women and power. Lord Cao Cao is the perfect example of a powerful ruler and still possessed a house of women. It was recorded that there were 13 women that gave birth to sons for Lord Cao Cao, which does not include ones that only gave birth to daughters or had affairs with Lord Cao Cao. Very few Warlords were capable of maintaining the balance between his ambition and women, which made Lord Cao Cao even more extraordinary.
full
During chaotic times, the extent of military power ultimately dictates the lifespan of one's throne. The first Emperor of China, Qin Emperor of Shi was a strong believer in militarism, which led to the rapid unstoppable expansion of his nation until he became the ruler of all under heaven. It was the extensive military funding that shaped each and every military soldiers of Qin State at the time into Elite fighters. It was said that, "Each soldier of Qin State was equivalent to ten."

Date’s model usage is explained in the v6.2c changelog. :)

Most of the hero models are ripped from Dynasty Warriors, while all other custom models are created based on an Ancient China Theme with no particular references.

Hello there, map seems interesting, very detailed descrition and images.

Just passing by to copy pasting a rule
General Resource Rules
"You must give credit where credit is due.
If you use material made by somebody else, you must give credit to them in the description. This includes material created by Blizzard if it comes from a different game than Warcraft 3."

Your submit
upload_2017-10-28_22-26-18.png

this is how it should be: example : Gold fever v1.23 AI

upload_2017-10-28_22-28-52.png
upload_2017-10-28_22-29-2.png

As I understand, a director film cannot put film made by me and my partner, I give credits to the actors and the sound people and the video people and... no no no, he has to put every single name of every person that worked in the movie.

Sugestion: track every imported material you used and give credit to every single author otherwise authors of the imported material have the right to protest because they are not properly credited.

Thread description text is really small. Might want to use another font.

1. You should avoid using the same icon for things especially in the same place (eg: Marketplace's Sell Wood & Imperial Tax Collector).
2. Why units and their copies with no food cost?

It's a nice enhancement. I'd approve it since the original is in Substandard. However, proper crediting of models is required. Where are they exactly from? Some say they're from a game. Credit the company and the game as well.
Try not having things linking outside of this site unless it's really needed like when crediting. Write the changelog here (as well).

Awaiting Update.

=====================================

Always check/recheck the Map Submission Rules! (Map Submission Rules)

A credits list is required where the names of the resource (models, skins, icons, spells, sound etc.) authors are mentioned along with the specific resource. It would be a luxury to have links leading to the used resources. Credits in the Quest Log would be appreciated.

A detailed changelog in the first post would be helpful to reviewers and notify fans about the newest implementations to your map.

To make your work run smoother, fix the so called leaks: Triggers - Memory Leaks and Custom Scripts

Thanks for the comments! I finally found some time to fix up the post: I have updated the credit section by listing each of the model used including the reference game and company of the models, if applicable and as well as the original author(s). I have also included the changelog for v6.3c which lists the changes since v6.3b.

I was given permission by LordSquishy to continue to update the map, as he was the last author of the original map.

Units with or without food cost differ quite abit, which adds more strategic elements to the gameplay. The units with food cost requires less resources to train, however they require a longer time to be trained from the barracks, and hence players will have to gauge whether resources or training time is more critical to them. The maximum food cap is also set at 75, so the units without food also serve to be available for generating more army after the players have reached maximum upkeep.

Hello Hi1,

Nice work on ur ROTK mod, truthfully I have never played warcraft, but! I am making a similar mod for Shogun2!

This is the link to my mod from 2 years ago

And I am currently Updating it to a v2.0
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?710347-Full-ROTK-Mod
I am curious as to who and where this model is from:
https://i.imgur.com/bd2CrAG.jpg

Originally I thought it looked like Ma Chao,, then i realized you were using DW5 Ma Chao next to him... then after Looking at your sources I thought it might be gongsunzan/mateng from the redcliff MMO but I can not find any info on that games files online.

If you could please pass me more info on this 3d model, or please send me the model, I would much appreciate it!

--I may figure out which version of warcraft I have to buy and will try your mod. It looks good. I hope youll try my v2.0 for Shogun2 when It comes out.

Thanks!

(I tried to PM you but this site wouldnt let me send "due to spam")

Thanks Havie! I have seen those ROTK mods on Shogun 2, never actually played with them though. Your mods are great, very detailed and highly accurate to the original Dynasty Warriors characters. I hope you are also focusing on having mods for the foot infantries/cavalries/archers rather than just using the default Shogun 2 unit models. If possible, change of buildings to the Ancient Chinese architecture would be really cool to have as well.

That horse unit model is indeed from Red Cliff OL. Not much results came up for me when I did a google image search as well. Just found a couple images shown below:

I will send you the model when I get the chance to look through my folders :) For sure, update me when your mod is released.

Awesome Hi1, Thank you!
That model would be a great replacement for Ma Chao (looks way more ROTK esque)
Can you get access to any model from this game??

Yes indeed, I have added over 50 unique units to the game, and about.. maybe 50 generals as well?

Right now I am adding the new building chain (just image files) as far as getting 3d models for new buildings I couldnt find any to use. But I wish I could get gates/walls etc, Because I plan on adding some custom battlemaps.

I'll keep you posted on the release, Please send the model when u can

New Gameplay System (1): Scenarios

full

Scenarios are a part of the core gameplay of the original Romance of the Three Kingdoms series. It allowed players to have the freedom to take part in the history at any given time period from 190 AD to 230 AD. Here, we introduce three available scenarios in the map. What's so special about these scenarios is that depending on the game scenario selected, players of different colors will be able to play as different characters that were most prominent in that time period. This also features scenario exclusive events that can only be triggered by players when a specific scenario has been selected. This system has a big potential for development in future versions, so do expect more playable scenarios coming!

Scenario 1: Battle of Guan Du (200 AD)
In Battle of Guan Du, there exists two major powerhouses: Cao Cao and Yuan Shao. The minor Warlords can decide to side with one of the two major powers in order to gain control over more lands or they can ally amongst each other to defeat these two major powers!

full

Starting distribution of the lands amongst the Warlords

full

Available Characters to play as in this scenario

Scenario 2: Land Divided into Three (211 AD)
In Land Divided into Three, China is basically divided amongst the Three Kingdoms: Cao Cao, Liu Bei, and Sun Quan. Evidently, Cao Cao seems to be in control over most lands initially, hence it will require cooperation between Liu Bei and Sun Quan to strike Cao Cao's forces from the East and the West to even stand a chance against the mighty Lord Cao Cao!

full

Starting distribution of the lands amongst the Warlords
full

Available Characters to play as in this scenario

Scenario 3: Hypothetical (260 AD)
In Hypothetical Scenario, it is the original mode of the game with 10 different playable Warlords. What is different now is that each Warlord now starts with a single city (except Cao Cao) which does not give any advantage to any Warlords. The strategy in this scenario is as clear, hence it will be up to players to determine their own paths!

New Gameplay System (2): Vassal Rebellion

The long awaited Vassal Rebellion system has finally arrived! Now, when surrendered players have reached a specific measure of power, they will be prompted that they are able to rebel against their Lords. Of course, they must remember that once you rebel, you are at a point of no return, as you cannot surrender again!

New Gameplay System (3): Technology Research

full

To complicate things even more, libraries can now be constructed by workers to unlock further advancements in military power. Units trained in Elite Barracks will now require research upgrades in order to be unlocked. The cost of research can be quite expensive in early game, so decide wisely which unit you would like to unlock first, as remember each unit can be countered by another!

How to defeat an AI? I played the part of SunJian and declared war on Yuanshu who's my closest neighbour.I managed to kill most of his units except his initial base tower which remained invulnerable.

Is there a limit of the number of bases?I failed to capture any more towns since I had captured Wu and HuiJi,which means I've got only three marketplaces available.

Ah the city towers are designed to be invulnerable. Once you capture the city building, those towers will become under your control. So, try using your men to capture Shou Chun!

My god why would you ruin the look of those beutiful oriental models and textures by placing them with inferior vannila WC3 city buildings. Terrain looks great but is serverely let down by the mix poor quality stock models with HQ imports, either chose one or the other in your map and dont attempt to mix the two together.

This map concept is very unique and very nice. Glad that I found it.
Terrain is nice, models are good and everything is nice.
Cant stop playing last night. lol.
Any updates coming up for this?

Glad you are enjoying the map :D

The most updated version is actually v6.4d, but because that version is still quite unpolished with some minor bugs here and there, so I didn't want to release it on hive just yet. I do host v6.4d occasionally on B.net so just keep an eye out for that if you play on B.net.

Currently though, I am focusing my attention on this new Three Kingdoms map, Total War Three Kingdoms so don't expect v6.4d to be released officially anytime soon haha

Feel free to join our RO3K discord: discord.gg/T2NpvC7 if you are looking for ppl to arrange a game for this map :D

Very good map, I do still enjoy playing this.
I like the style and the models, and it is my favorite era :)

Thanks!
