Replaceable Flag

Replaceable Flag

A really simple but practical flag pole model designed to make use of the destructible replaceable texture override fields.
When used as a unit, the flag will be replaced with team color.

Credits must be given when utilizing this model or its textures.
You are not allowed to redistribute this model anywhere.
The model and its textures can be modified for personal use only.

Tools used:
3ds Max 5/2016
Warcraft III Art Tools
VA Tools
Photoshop CC
BLP Laboratory

How to use:
1: Create a new destructible.
2: Change the Model File and Portrait to the imported model.
3: Set the Replaceable Texture ID to 1.
4: Set the Replaceable Texture File to the texture you want to use.
5: Profit.

Custom textures must follow the 'power of two' rule for dimensions, and be of either BLP or TGA file format.
For best result, use a texture aspect ratio of 1:1 or 2:1.

  • The texture work could be accomplished using ingame textures, which would make the size smaller.
  • Use an additional "Replaceable ID" texture, since having a team colored background might be good with alpha-ed textures. Say, someone want to have a symbol on a team colored background ect.
  • Two animations, one where the flag is raised, and one where it is lowered. To make it more useful in "Point capture" maps.

@SNIper of DARKness:

I think this would help you:
How to use:
1: Create a new destructible.
2: Change the Model File and Portrait to the imported model.
3: Set the Replaceable Texture ID to 1.
4: Set the Replaceable Texture File to the texture you want to use.
5: Profit.

Or did you mean more flagpole variants?
Or if you mean more flags using same base model, just create as many as you want. However for flag units/buildings I think you'll need to change the texture yourself

EDIT: Why did World Editor crash whenever I select the destructible flag?

Could we have more flag variations?
Possibly. Did you have anything specific in mind?

That's odd. It was exported with the official art tools and I made sure it worked properly in both the editor and the game.
What texture are you using as the replacing file?

I used some irregular textures, but then I found the problem and used square textures ("multiples of 2" dimension length).

However some textures do not show up properly, and some show up as three faces on the lower part of the flag

Do they show up properly in the game, or does the problem persist?
If you mean the other textures, it's solved after I resized the textures to 512*512.

I haven't tested them ingame, but from Editor the two flags were messed up...
And the red color from Nod Flag texture has been overwritten by team colors.
It does work for any other textures, though.

Are the two texture files problematic?

Yea I could try with a custom wc3 texture I guess

I see the flag when selecting it, I don't see the pole though.

Also I use the version 1.29 of World Editor.

Edit: Maybe it could help, the texture I tried to use is a flag of afghanistan in 64 x 64 blp. It already as an icon. Also the destructible used as a base is a barrel.

Okay. Looks like 1.29 doesn't like textures converted with BLP Laboratory (or at least whatever setting I was using).
That's alarming. I wonder how many textures will be broken on the new patch.
Anyway, here's textures converted with the WC3 Art Tools. They're much larger in size, but guaranteed to work.

It works, Thanks a lot. You deserve rep :)

It is rare modelers still being very active in the community for a so long service time like you.

For the textures, It was really the compressed textures. Now everything work fine.

Anyway they might be larger in size but with the extended file size limit being around 100mbit now, it don't matter.
