A project that took me a day longer then I thought it would. I exported the original Blizzard Hermit crab, and turned it into this.

Story:

I noticed when I was making my hermit crab items that the model for the hermit crab is just awful, shortly after finishing those items I decided to start this, My main reasoning was how un-finished it looked. it didn't even have a functional attack animation.

so first I deleted 11 un-used bones, then re attached all the legs meshes to proper bones, then I changed all the key frames for all the legs bones in all animations, to be more smooth. then I fixed all of the broken animations:

stand - 1 -- the classic stand animation, tweaked smoothness
Death -- RE animated from scratch, he splats downwards.
decay bone -- fixed some materials alpha that was done wrong by blizzard
decay flesh -- fixed a glitchy bone never fixed by blizzard

then I built new animations, some from scratch, others are copied and pasted/then altered:

Attack - 1 -- uses his left pincer
Attack - 2 -- uses his right pincer
Attack Slam -- uses both pincers at once
Spell First -- the crabs claws wave menacingly in the air as a threat response
Morph -- goes into his shell (same as the first half of stand - 2)
Morph Alternate -- comes out of the shell, same as the second half of stand - 2)
Stand Alternate -- the crab is inside his shell
Death Alternate -- comes out of his shell and dies

I was debating adding amphibious swim animations, but I decided against it, if people think I should add it, feel free to complain about the lacking of it in the comments, if enough people bug me I'll probably end up adding it later.

if you wish to modify this crab to use other in game crab textures, feel free to do so, I my self am waiting for perhaps some updates I may not know I need to make, so this vanilla color Crab will have to due for now.

HOW TO USE:

make 2 units, set ones animation tags to Alternate, set the alternate crabs death time seconds to 0.946 seconds. set the death time seconds for the non alternate crab to 0.444, then make a bear form ability, and remove movement speed from the alternate crab and BAM ur now using both aspects of the model.

Update 1: version 117 was erroring for people because I labeled an animation wrong, all this time I never knew ''Stand -1 Alternate'' as an animation tag doesn't work, and neither does ''Stand -2 Alternate'' So I deleted that 1 animation, and renamed the other, and it stopped the crab from playing non alternate animations during the alternate animation tags, basically, your crab wont randomly play stand when he should be in his shell as stand alternate. the version you should have now is 125

Update 2: version 125 was nice, but after people complained it should be amphibious, that I even make plants amphibious, it might as well become amphibious. so I added:

Stand Swim, Stand Swim Alternate, Walk Swim, Morph Swim, Morph Swim Alternate, Attack Swim - 1, Attack Swim - 2, Attack Slam Swim, Death Swim, and Death Alternate Swim. the version you should have now is 185

Update 3: version's 185 stand -2 was nice, but I noticed the eye stalks clipped the claws, tweaked that a bit. most current version is 186

Update 4: watching every animation in sequence in game made me feel it was finished enough to upload with the red crab texture, so a quick texture change provides a second variation. you should now have 186 (grey) and 001 (red)

Update 5: wups, this is embarrassing, all this time some kind of bug existed where, in game, during stand -2 he would perform as normal, until it was time to swap back to stand -1, for what ever reason.... only after I had made all kinds of color variations..., did I find this bug where he freezes. oddly enough, in the world editor (and not in game), he does not do this, he instead plays stand -1 and stand -2 perfectly, the only way to detect this bug, was to test it in game, and watch very carefully, until he did it. so. I have changed some animation names, stand -2 is instead now called spell first. to use this animation, simply make an ability like ''Roar'' from the night elf bear, and pick the first animation name to be ''spell'' and the second tag to be ''first'' now you can use what was called ''stand -2'' any time you like. the versions you should have now are 188 (grey) and 003 (red)

I did not change the crabs mesh very much, as to match my item model, I did how ever change the shells shape its self, probably should have mentioned that.

This model is very nice and useful , however are you up for a request - I need firelords animations on a model (Lightning Elemental), anyway 5/5 - will surely use this :D

Amphibious animations would be great, I was always disappointed that crabs and lobsters weren't able to swim like the other sea creatures. Having at least one creature able to would be an improvement.

I love it when you give a full information for your models. I wonder if you could do the same with the skink :ogre_haosis:
