Phase Killer -1.1.2-

This version is optimized with Vexorian's Map Optimizer. If you need help with something in Phase Killer related to mapmaking, just ask me.

Phase Killer

• Multiplayer-Only - Technically it can be played with one player, but the game isn't exactly going to progress. It's impossible to write an AI for this kind of map with our current technology.

• Twelve Players - 6-12 players are recommended. Any less to start with degrades the quality of the game.


Premise

Stay alive and try to acquire better items over time if possible

Three Roles:

- Townsfolk - No special abilities other than having 6 item slots as opposed to the phasers' two. The one condition to win is to kill the Phase Killer. You can still win even as a ghost, but it becomes more difficult that way.

- Phasers - Half of the players in the game, rounding down, become Phasers. Phasers have the ability to Phase, which moves them to and fro the Aetherworld. Phasers are the most helpful for hunting down the Phase Killer, but ironically are the ones to be considered as the potential Phase Killer.

- Phase Killer - One of the Phasers in the game is the Phase Killer. The Phase Killer has the ability to phase, transform into his natural form at will (albeit with a slight negative health regeneration), disguise himself as a different player (changing his name and color, but not his pings), upgrade himself using collected souls, change his form/specialization at will, and use a handful of combat-related abilities.


Features

• Three Dimensions - There are three dimensions: the two standard ones, the normal world and the aetherworld, and the harsh hard-to-reach omniworld. There are several ways to go between the normal world and the aetherworld, but the most direct route is through the ability possessed by Phasers: phasing. The omniworld is reached through the omniworld gateway after it has been activated by a specific item combo.

• Chat System - The chat system is customized with interesting features that allow for more unique gameplay. Especially interesting is the auto-garbled speech that one may experience...

• Life after Death - If you die, you become a ghost. As a ghost, you can instantly phase between the dimensions and use a short-range teleportation ability. Ghosts also use mana to talk in two ways: short-range floating text or public chat (the latter of which is auto-garbled). Ghosts also have a chance at resurrection if someone manages to acquire Arcanum (good luck getting whoever has one to consume it by reviving you; it has a really good passive ability and is very tough to get).

• Items. Lots of Items. - The bread and butter of Phase Killer is in the items, which are spawned throughout the map on the ground. Some items are more common than others, others only appear in the Aetherworld, etc. However, the real depth to them is the combinations possible by, well, combining them by moving one item over another in your inventory. There are currently more combination-acquired item types than randomly-spawned item types.

• Good Reading - Somewhat of a tip of the hat to Wilderness Survival, every item combination (in some way or another) is depicted in the various books that can be found lying around the map. Some books are much harder to decipher than others, and one is even readable only in the aetherworld.

• Zombies - Players may be semi-revived as zombies, controlled by their masters and possibly even traded like slaves between players. Zombies have no inventory but are powerful in combat and can become human by consuming someone's corpse.



The above is basically a general consensus of Phase Killer, and by no means lists everything in the map. If you want to experience it, I suggest you play it.

I've played an earlier version of this map and liked it very much. New additions in this update (or official release?) sound great.

One of the most impressive things about this map is the polish. Even your description here is well written and informative, as it should be. There were no glaring spelling errors, colour was used well in tooltips, all the tooltips were present etc etc.
Other things I liked: the chat system, the garbled ghosts, the item system, and the differences between the two [three?] worlds.

There were some things that I didn't like, for instance, it was sometimes hard to tell which world I was in, the Beast had an ability called antiphase that was a bit strange. The beast also seemed to lose health all the time regardless of which realm I was in. When I used an ability on a unit, I stopped attacking and I then had to manually attack again. This was a pain as it's quite hard to catch the fast moving enemies.
The items also cast strange shadows on the ground, it might be best to just remove those.

However, for style and polish, I'll give this a 4/5

Antiphase is just the opposite of Phase; it channels mana in the normal world rather than channeling mana in the aetherworld. I can add a few more graphical effects to differentiate the worlds, so don't worry about that. The health degeneration for the Phase Killer is something that I'm changing; instead of all the forms degenerating health, only the advanced/specialized forms will have it. Item shadows are just part of WarCraft III; I can't remove them.

The Phase Killer abilities menu is something that I'm hoping to change. Right now, it's an annoying bother, so I'm trying to think of ways to completely replace it with something more worthwhile.

Well, I could see the difference between the worlds visually, but the description, that was otherwise excellent throughout the rest of the game, failed here. What do you mean that it channels the mana differently? Does the beast just get mana in one and not the other? I also noticed that the beast moves much more slowly in antiphase, was there a reason for this?

just so you know darkrevenant theres an fake map on epicwar.com thats fucking buged, you cant change back if you take another persons shape, anyway the map is rly good and you sure must ahd put alot of time on it gj

Rated 4/5 because PhaseKillers Name/Color change hotkey was ESC. It sucks hard, cause you cant cancel channelling ect. spells with esc. And you need to click with mouse to close spell books. I just played it and lost ~4 power points because of stupid ESC hotkey. Just give him ability what to click in order to change color... Wont play / host this untill that hotkey is changed.

As of the latest version of Phase Killer (0.1.1c) the Phase Killer's abilities have been changed to item slots to prevent conflict with the escape key, and to avoid further trouble while activating the abilities. An alternative to cancel spell channeling could be to use the hold key (hotkey H) to stop any given unit order.

Great game.

But, Still a bit hard to learn recipes for me. My Brother seemed to have no problem at all.

Games go on forever some times...

We end up drawing straws for who will live when we all get sick of not knowing who's it and decide the person with the lowest number we will all att..

-Make combinations to create traps, ones you place on the ground and watch someone step over incase your followed.
-There should be two different options for the phase killer, you should be able to change, voice, or color. So when the player is accused, he doesnt have to switch back to his original color to deny it, he could just change his voice.

There already are a couple traps. Read the survival guide...

Changing the identity is always an acceptable risk while being the Phase Killer. No power is used when changing back, luckily. However, if someone accuses you, he is one of the two:
1. He is just accusing people in the spur of the moment, thus if you are delayed in your reaction he won't take much action against you.
2. He already made up his mind; nothing you do will stop him from attacking you.

That being said, I'll experiment with a colored voice feature in the next version...

Weird, the hiveworkshop in-game minimap picture doesn't match up with the actual updated in-game minimap.

Wyvern, I take it that you're talking about the NEW terrain that was put in the latest version just a couple hours ago? The old terrain was smaller and not as good...

Edit: Ok seriously whats with these people that vote 1/5 and 2/5 without even posting a comment?

Some Suggestions

-=Ghost Chat=-
Ghosts shouldn't be able to talk in global chat. They always bypass the "-" system that is suppose to keep them somewhat quiet, by massing their message. I believe they should only be able to use the close to player chat by using the "-" button. This will allow the phase killer to basicly take lives, by turning into that player and taking their items. The way it is now, turning into a dead player is a very stupid idea. Of course it'd still be a risky decision because the ghost can still find players on the map and tell them who they really were.

-=Pit Ability=-
Players should be able to create a invisible pit. This would be a hole in the ground, covered by leaves. It's used as a storage for players, so they can create a sort of base where they can go to and combine items, and drop em off. This would cut the timing of killing another player, because once you use up all your items on a player, you're off to find more.

ok I might sound like a noob:sad: im trying to make a war map or dota map I did spawns, revive and others but one more thing that im stuck on I was hopeing you guys help me I saw other dota maps have like win by destroying Main castle 63 <gen> and it was a variable:confused: please tell me how he did that!!!!:thumbs_up:

I didnt found any Arcanum yet, I guess it's one of the recipies on the **** (spoiler cut out). What I think is that Omni is too easy too reach, I got it in 15 minutes. But I guess wehn you know all recipies ('cept of Arcanum T.T) it is easy. One question: Is the -Spoiler cut out-Sword a joke or so? It costs alot of time and its really crappy in my point of view

Suggestions...

-=Draw Weapon=-

We should be able to click the weapon to draw it, sort of like how you put on armor. And of course... clicking it again would withdraw it.

-=Armor & Weapon Storage=-

You should be able to hold more then one armor and more then one weapon in your inventory. You have to click to equip them anyway, so why cant you hold em? This would allow players to be able to use what they want, and when they want. Also, this would allow the phase killer to hold 2 sets of armor, and 2 sets of weapons so he could draw out the ones he needs to imitate another player.

-=Phaser Balancement=-

I realized that being a phaser is actually a disadvantage. As a human you are able to create a phase sphere that allows you to go back and forth in worlds without draining mana in the Aetherworld. So if you think about it a human is a better phaser then an actual phaser. It's pratically a phaser with no mana drain and 1 more open inventory slot. Yes, its true a human has to visit the Aetherworld to even create that sphere, but out of all the games I've played, an Aetherworld portal always opened up eventually. Also, it's harder becoming a phaser then a human, so shouldnt the phaser be better? There definitly needs to be some balancement... My opinion in fixing this balancement is either opening up all the phasers slots or removing the mana drain that you get in the Aetherworld.

It's the same thing with the phaser, he is limited because of the amount of energy he has, it takes the phaser's mana by 50 each time he uses it. Not only that but phaser has a energy drain in the Aetherworld, and phase sphere doesnt. So if you think about it, a human will always be the superior race. Which is stupid because a phaser should definitly have the benefit since it's harder becoming one.

The fact that the beings in Aether can see the beings in Real World, while the being in Real World can't see the beings in Aether does not make sense. Should make it "unseeable" in both directions. (this would/could? also make the game more entertaining? in its own way...)

The ghosts should be unable to talk globally for 1 minute after they are dead, and if the killer take's their identity during that 1 minute time period, then the ghost should remain muted until the killer changes his identity. This would make it much easier for the "Killer" to pretend to be some other player.

(Dun think u would add this one but)
I think it would be better if theres multiple dimensions that you can normally phase into.

Bug: I dunno if u fixed this bug yet or not, so I will mention it here. In 0.2.0c map, an item sometimes never seem to spawn, or cease to spawn after a certain point. I once had a game where NO ONE was able to find a RX to combine with Marble to create an enchant stone.

Not a bug just random unluck. And it is reasonable that aetherworld beings can see normal world beings and not the other way round (You can see the phase killer btw) It's a bit like the window in a examination room. Its only possible to see the other side while ur outside.

A phaser + phase shere = infintely more powerful than a human + phase sphere. Srsly.

We are both viewing it at different angles. You believe that running away gives you power, I believe having the equipment gives you power. Phasers extremely weak without a full inventory, seriously.. phasers cant even kill a human, let alone a phase killer. All they could do is throw objects and run. Then again it is your game, do as you want. You gotta understand that I take my time to figure whats unbalanced, but if you choose not to listen then I'll choose not to look for your mistakes. Good luck...

You have to understand the game isn't meant to be a "you're on your own" type of game. Obviously, there is a bit of distrust due to the Phase Killer being out and about, but the only way to win is to work together. Humans are best for fighting and phasers are best for chasing/running/making items.

Bug found

Yo dark.revenant@azeroth, i found a bug in your game while playing it (yes the newest version), the glitch is that while equipping or unequipping heavy armor (i didnt try with the other armors so i dont know if its the same with those) if u click on an item to pick it up b4 it finishes equipping or unequipping then all items in your inventory except for the armor disappear. Hope you fix that, its a good map otherwise.

I really have no idea why that would happen, Fires-of-War. It must be a Warcraft III bug, because all of the item transactions are done in the instant the cast time finishes. Picking up an item should either not do anything or at least cancel the cast. The fact that it doesn't cancel is weird.

At least you kept your armor, otherwise you would have been boned.

Each map would had 100 score at the beginning (Full Score) and for each merit point, the point would increase while for each demerit the score would be deduct.

Map that violates rules would be deduct point drastically. The same apply for map that had bug as well.

Overall score would effect the rating given by Alexis Septimus. Below is the overall score needed to achieve certain rating.

Unacceptable = 0-15 (Rejected) 16-30 (Approve)
Lacking = 31-50
Useful = 51-80
Recommend = 81-90
Highly Recommend = 91-119
Director Cut = 120+ (Not Available)
Rules Violation
Map that violates the rules of hiveworkshop would be deduct point heavily which could possibly effect the rating drastically and could cause it to be rejected.

Below are the list of violation that could had possibly occur.

1) Map protected and never mention at detail/description/information (Map that cannot be open by ordinary World Editor must had the statement of it being protected) [-10]
2) "Just another warcraft III map" title are not allowed even if it is written at other language.[-100]
3) Blank map with nothing on it. [-100]
4) Maps with offensive map previews or profanity in the name or description. [-100]
5) Maps that are written in languages other than English without English as alternate language. [-100]
6) Map that had been approve, but deleted and re-upload to had better rating. [-30]
7) Incomplete maps/alpha stage level map are not acceptable. (Must at least be at least at late beta stage) [-100]
8) Maps that serve no real gaming function such as special effects and trigger test maps. [-100]
9) Stolen/Hack/De-protect map. [-100]
10) Maps that do not use standard keyboard characters [-100]
10) Constantly upload the same map (Different version are not acceptable as well, you should had use the update button instead.) [-100]

Other than this 10 violation, the map could had possibly rejected under other circumstances as well.

I got this bug as killer that I can't change form,many times, the nearest was using verison 0.2.5 playing online, the other times using 0.2.5b is mainly on single player, will test it using 0.2.5b in muti player
