Neverwinter Nine

It has been a long time seen i first created a Hero defense map. It's actually my favorite genre.
I did play X-Hero and some other popular maps but i am not satisfied with most of them so i decided to make a new fresh one, on my own way :grin:

-Map story: Nothing special. You are one of the Neverwinter Nine, the most noble and talent warriors of Lord Nasher. You will be sent to the Crossroad Keep, to help defense it from an invasion of the enemies.

-Map genre: Hero Defense

-Number of players: 1 - 6

-Gameplay: Team up and try to survive the tough battle as well as protect Lord Nasher. If he dies, you lose. The enemies will be divided into many classes. Mainly warrior, mage, assassin and ranger. Each hero has a specific role so the only way to win is teamwork.
Basically the map will focus on custom Heroes, spells and items. I will also add some new regions around the Keep so you will have some tasks to do. Search as killing a Legendary Dragon for treasures or assassinate an Enemies' leader for bonuses. There are totally 29 waves of enemy.

-Heroes:

-Each class has a specific NPC to learn his talents. Normally talent (the other name of skill, spell or ability as we usually call) will cost 1 talent point (attribute point), 100 gold and corresponding Hero level. Each level gives you four talent points, you can distribute to Strength, Agility, Wisdom or keep them to learn other abilities, the choice is yours.

  • Strength: increases health, health regen rate, physical damage and physical damage from some Talents.
  • Agility: increases armor, physical critical rate and physical damage from some Talents.
  • Wisdom
: increases mana, mana regen rate and magical damage from Talents.

Magical damage includes ice, fire, lightning and spirit. Nature damage is considered as poison, note that Undead is immune to critical damage and Nature damage.

-Tips and Hints:
  • This map requires at least 4 players, the default difficulty is hard.
  • Do not forget to distribute your talent points and it should be reasonable.
  • Do not try to be a superman, fight as a team.
  • Use Teleporters for quick transporting.
  • Upgrade your items.

Update v1.4:
-Now use lumber as talent point to learn your talents. You will gain 1 point per level.
-Talent damage of melee classes now ignore enemy armor (as magical damage do)
-Increased attack damage per primary point to 1.8
-Increased HP per Strength point to 100
-Increased critical rate to 0.2% per Agility point
-Removed those talents: Regrowth, Whirlwind, Slice
-Added new talents: Companion of the Wood, Lay on Hands, Rupture
-Added two more Epic items
-Fixed all reported bugs

Update v1.6:
-Many bugs fixed
-Added three recipe shops
-Added new pet Wolf King Karth

Update v1.8:
-Holy Smite damage reduced to 10% - 100% current mana, consider enemy armor
-Golem now is immune to Massacre and Holy Smite
-Eye for an Eye now deals AOE damage
-Mana shot now deals damage based on Wisdom, name changed to Arcane Shot
-Coup De Grace now deals 400% attack damage as critical
-Removed talent Invisibility for Scout, Serpent's Quickness added instead
-Removed talent Deep Freeze for Mage, Winter's Grasp added instead
-The final wave now has 20 more Green Drakes
-Fixed Boss' AI so that they won't be stuck anymore
-Fixed talent Cunning which did not score critical hit from behind
-Slightly increased armor per point of Agility


-Trailer: a small movie with the terrain and a few Heroes i have finished>

Very attractive map - the custom doodads are very nice and add a different feel to the map. I don't see a credits section - did you make all of the custom models yourself, or are they ported from (I'm guessing) NWN?

The custom skills are really nice, and the map seems of high quality - vote up :D

So good map. I also want to give an advice: could you add some npc assistance to the town, like some footmen and archers that spawn regularly and help? I think that would give some nice touch to the game. Now it looks too empty...


LE: Oh my God, tell me you didn't changed that great terrain...

this is a totally kick-ass map, the custom skills are sick! \m/ vote for this map to be approved :) hope to see more improvements, oh and i hope u can like, add a single player mode, since there are ppl like me who plays at home. :)

After many times testing i decide to upload v1.3, gold cost for all talents and items are dramatically reduced, also fixed some minor bug, added healing ward nearby merchants, adjusted option of some talents.
The difficulty should now be easier but you still need a good team to win.

What is the language ? I have almost everything blank especially while viewing my stats.

Then, i have somekind of i dunno what: in the central shop, all the epic things have the same description, like: Class Sorceress; +10000 Mp, +10000 Hp etc
I used to click on some of them to figure out what is the one for me.

Then, about recipes, i suppose u should make detached shop for them: it drives me mad to scroll the list everytime i want to make something combined.

Another thing, about sorceress' skill "Wild..." that is to boost someone's stats: we used to play together some times AND i'd used this skill different times on ranger, defender and me. After it'd ended Ranger had stats like: 's:47 a:25 w:3 (with 75 mp - nice ya?)' ;
defender also had some reduction but not such critical and sorceress had his agility and strength being lowered to 17 (even 1st level has 25 of them).

And there should be some time ~15-20 sec between waves

Thanks for your comments and suggestions. After many hour testing i decide to make some urgent changes.

Update v1.4:

great map here, man! :) hope to see more updates! :) although yeah i think you should put some delays between waves like 15-20 seconds just like what that dude said on his post. :):thumbs_up:

Aura of Pain does nothing, and currently Rupture is bugged. Deals damage based on how far away you are from them, not how far they are from where they were 1s ago.

...Fellow Hive members and map-reviewers...I.am.in.AWE!! - After months of inactivity, I will be reviewing maps once more. Such is the impact this particular beauty has bestowed upon my mind and will. Expect something monumental :

Edit : Well, I'm a bit disappointed, so I'll do a short review that revolves around game-play and graphics.

- Game-play is nothing new as a concept, but it's beautifully executed.
- Incredible model textures and over-all wrapping
- Great use of imported material
- Custom items, icons, etc. are 100% a.o.k.
- Terrain could compare to that of Gaia's Retaliation (that's a compliment)

Minor setback : Difficulty level...hmm...it's a bit of a zig-zag really, I'd like to see more balance.

Is there some sort of command to get it like that or was it a "trailer special" view? :(

I would suggest making paladin like statue. He died cause he ran 'killing monsters' at 25 wave - is it the end ? A bit imbalance - nuke for 10k+ against him, even i've died

One question: how do I get a pet?

Wolf King available after killing the Scorpion boss. There are two, and they are your meat walls.

I was hoping to see an awesome 3rd person camera view in this map looking from your trailer but it was the regular ingame...

Is there some sort of command to get it like that or was it a "trailer special" view? :(

There are alot good items in game, and try to get your unique armor as fast as possible, with +5 it gives you 40k. The price is not cheap however (Successful rate is 100%/65%/45%/25%/15% :)) )
What do you mean about nuke for 10k? there are totally 29 waves.

give us time after each wave for buy spell and item, it's too fast

I will try, currently there are some problems.

hi. i am a korean.
i played this map several times.
i think this map is good to play.
terrain, model, and skill are awesome.
but there is several problems.
there should be a term around 10~20sec between each round.
both enemy and we have high HP and weak dmg(except several aoe skill of heroes)
so, both enemy and we doesn't die well... many people of asia server said "it's fun but boring"
i think somewhat special font is used in this map... but that font is crashed in korean warcraft client...

dude add a little more fast gameplay or just make an option in the beginning of the game in the game, it just too slow..add more items with added stats and spells..

By nuke i meant monster's spell at the final waves (2 crabs + frost wyrm :D )

Another thing, at one of the boss waves "Eye..." drops which must give u 15% evasion, but it doesn't ...

btw sorceress' summon instead of group heal is absolutely useless ^^

And dont u want to add anything with vamp effect ?

Cunning's automatic critical hit when attacking from behind no longer works.

For some strange reason, if you have Frost Blast and Repulsion field, if you use the R hotkey, both spells fire but only Frost Blast goes on CD, which lets you doublecast repulsion. It may actually work with other Tier 3 talents, I'll get back to you on that. *EDIT* Only works with Repulsion.

Just beat the map for the first time. Duo'd it with a friend. I was a wisdom-based Guardian and he was a Rogue.

:vw_wtf: I agree. That's one of the qualities of this map. Slow it's good, but it sure needs some time between waves...

how good is slow gets boring in time...if only hero gets faster when getting new item and leveling up then thats good..

Just because Holy Smite is epic, 500% mana is too much when you can easily have about 20k, i will have to fix in next version.

No argument there, man. :D Though don't nerf it too hard, keep in mind I couldn't do crap for damage with anything but smite with that build.
