Mo'arg - Houndmaster

The Houndmaster

These agents of the Legion are usually among the first to be dispatched in the opening phases of the demonic invasions.
They are Fellords specialize in breeding and controlling the Legion's felhounds rather than bossing around some felguard.
With their pack of demonic beasts, they hunt down the magic users and other important people, who are classified as a threat to the Legion,
in order to weaken the defenses of the planet even further.

Nobody knows why they and the Pit Lords are offering their services in the tavern, but their skills might help ignore this dangerous question...

This is my model for the first HD Model Contest.

I imagined this ... "hero" as a supporting hunter hero, with the ability to call devil dogs to his side (of course), but also to underline his role as huntmaster:

Electric whip
The Hounmaster hits an enemy target with his electric whip, which damages the enemy and slows him down for a while.

Summon Felhounds
Call some Felhounds to the side of the Houndmaster, for a certain period of time.

Howl of the Huntmaster
The Houndmaster lets out a shout reminding his lakies not to let his prey escape.
Increases the movement speed of nearby allies for a period of time.

Call the Alphabeast (Ultimate)
The Hound Master calls his favorite, constantly at his side.
Can only summon one alpha beast at a time. (Like Rexxar calling Misha)


I think it's clear to everyone which character I was inspired by ...
and I was extremely disappointed when I saw this character in WoW: Legion and what they made of him.
So I tried to combine both forms in order to at least pay some respect to the "new look".

This is a very creatively made character. Complete transformation with good use of numerous geosets, popcornFX and retextures of the base model, makes it look like a completely new one, great job and approved! Optional Changes: I have previously...
I like him a lot. Legion doesn't have to always be green fire, even in Antorus raid we had "normal" fire demons.
Geoset choice is very cool, all of them fit the theme of the hero so do the re-textures.
Even a custom spell anim with whip is a nice touch (not for the recipients of the whip ofc).

The only thing that's lacking in quality compared to the model is the icon. I would try to make a model without all the fire FX, face him to the side (for more dramatic lighting), and use that as a base for icon. Small highlights of the edges of the armour might help out distinguish his frame in the icon as well.

Optional Changes:
  • I have previously said that the model's spell 1 animation looks somewhat awkward, due to it being transferred from from a model with a completely different anim-bone structure. You could try to improve it by deleting a bunch of animation frames (main weapon arm, etc.), copying some leg frames from another one of his animations, your call if it's worth to do just for 1 animation.
  • There is also a bug that occurs for no more than a split second, where the 2nd whip (used for spell) appears as a long geoset in dissipate animation. But I can't honestly consider it a major bug, because of hard it is to see it (bug's visibility is literally dependant on your refresh rate). Nonetheless you could check for it in MDL.
