Description:
This map is based on the siege of Minas Tirith from the movie The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

Play either for Minas Tirith or for Sauron's Forces. You have to choose one hero who will be revived automatically when he/she dies. You can train your own units. Use your gold to buy items, upgrade units or repair damaged mechanical units. Units cost only food. All players get gold by killing hostile units.

Minas Tirith can control trebuchets and gates of the city.
Sauron's Forces can use siege towers to get onto the first wall and Grond to destroy gates.

Buildings inside the city can be destroyed by Sauron's Forces and will drop useful items.

Minas Tirith:
Defend the White Tree until the Army of the Dead arrives and kills every unit from Sauron's Forces.

Sauron's Forces:
Destroy the White Tree before the Army of the Dead arrives and kills every unit from Sauron's Forces.

  • Update text on the loading screen. Make it shorter and more colors.
  • Add new hero "The Watcher" from the first Lord of the Rings movie The Fellowship. He can heal himself from water, spawn tentacles, makes extra damage against buildings and can place himself as siege engine in water and fire across the whole map.
  • New ulti spell "Death" for Théoden which increases the attack and movement speed of allied units based on the number of houses still standing in the city.
  • New spells for Gandalf: "Light" which spawns a big light from the sky which damages hostile units and causes extra damage to Nazgul. "Flame of Anor" (new ulti) which creates a big shield. All allied units which are inside the shield have increased armour.
  • New spells for Aragorn: "King of Gondor" he changes his form to the king of gondor and causes chaos damage for some time. "Athelas" -> based on "Healing Spray".
  • Replace spell "Silence" of Faramir with the spell "Summon Madril".
  • Change spells for Legolas: "Control Mumak" is his ulti now and is time limited. "Elven Eye" -> basically "Critical Strike".
  • Revise all unit spawn tooltips and add the stats of the unit types, the limits aand a hint how the spawn system actually works.
  • Add rally points as movable heroes. Spawned units will move to them automatically.
  • Increase HP of heroes. They die too fast.
  • Create a new citadel based on Doodads instead of the church building.
  • Repick is only time limited after the preparation ended and has a longer time limit.
  • Videos are a bit shorter now.
  • Move camera to the Army of Dead after the video (target location).

Apr 2, 2021 - version 0.6:
  • Completely revised the map's terrain, size and Doodads: It looks more like in the movie now (round circles, 7 rings etc.) and is much much smaller. This prevents long ways for units, massive lags, stuck units due to AI issues and pauses since Mordor is not really attacking. The old map version was far too big and not round like the city in the movie and the book. It only had 3 rings. I am working on the current terrain and Doodads and will add more buildings from time to time and try to make it look more like in the movie. I have found some useful references like this: Minas2 02012018 and Minas Tirith 3rd Level and G3 and Gt which looks even better than my version. Maybe I have to extract more models and take my time to improve this or even create some models with Blender. However, the terrain/Doodads are not the current focus. I want to make the map playable.
  • The map is only 4 vs 4 now since it was even hard to fill 8 slots in Battle.net. It is more similar to the Helm's Deep map now.
  • Removed overcomplicated stuff: Siege ladders, rescuing villagers, shamans, flying Nazgul, all the Haradrim units except Mumakil, rangers, Rohan units except Riders.
  • Catapults have modi fire and heads now -> one unit type.
  • Mordor only trains Grond and the ram and Gondor has no units anymore. This simplifies the game since you don't have to control too many units.
  • You have only 1 barrack now which simplifies the game.
  • Only two remaining events: Riders of Rohan with Mumakil and Army of the Dead with Sauron. This simplifies the game and the player can train all other units from the start (the siege looks more like in the movie now).
  • Small video sequences with sounds from the movie for the events.
  • Spawned units for events are distributed for players. They do not belong to Gondor or Mordor anymore.
  • All units from non-playing players are automatically removed in the beginning. Only units of human players or computer players with full shared control remain.
  • Reduced the map size a bit.
  • Max hero level is 10 and no more attribute bonus. Reduced the XP gain rate.
  • Lots of balancing: Archers are much weaker now as well as siege towers, gates, grond and the small ram.
  • The siege tower areas are smaller so Mumakil and Grond and other siege towers cannnot go over the wall anymore.
  • More custom spells for heroes like spawning Rangers for Faramir.
  • Hero revival timers are only visible for the owners.
  • The spawn timer will be shown in the multiboard now.
  • Show only one timer for the next event.
  • Gondor and Mordor are not shown anymore in the multiboard.
  • Do not show Gondor and Mordor in the score screen.
  • Added unit kills and deaths columns to the multiboard.
  • No more command flags -> too complicated.
  • Fixed a repick bug when you repicked your hero in the beginning.
  • Riders of Rohan spawn footman when they die.
  • Disabled teleport effect and sound which was quite annoying.

The map seems rather dull from the minimap and are you sure it is an improvement of older ones?

Apparently there is a tool to list the imported resources which I didn't even know. Why does this website not just generate the credits automatically if it can already detect the resources?
Why do you think this map is rather dull? What do you expect from a Minas Tirith defense map? What kind of minimap do you expect? The terrain could be improved yes, it is very basic.

Compared to the other maps: I couldn't even start most of them and all except one could not be played without at least one other human player.
If I compare it to this one:

Mine does look more like the Minas Tirith from the movie, uses more custom models, you can rescue villagers and you have building points plus Gondor and Mordor players.
Then there was another version where Minas Tirith was really small and you had to play Frodo's way, too.

Note there is much room for improvement. Hence it says version 0.2 and lists upcoming features.
I think many versions of this map can coexist.

edit:
Added credits for the resources actually used in the map. I will remove the other resources which I had added in the beginning but never used.

  4. Find some proper models to get out of the Warcraft III universe look-alike. Legolas is a woman...
  5. Some heroes like Aragorn don't have hero glow. You could add that: How to add Hero Glow without Modeling This hero's healthbar is sky-high.
  6. Maybe more unit differentiation (unique abilities/skills etc.; they are pretty much Warcraft III unit copies). Doctor is basically the Warcraft III Priest. Some more upgrades for towers and units, some more troop/kingdom management.
  7. Items are regular Warcraft III ones. Hard to keep any LotR immersion, really.
  8. Faramir looks like a regular Ranger. The hero also has no glow.
  9. Flying Nazgul/units can enter the Way Gates. I mean, they're already flying (advantage).
  10. What do villagers do exactly? Why are they mechanical?

thx, villagers move to the rescue point at the top automatically and give all players gold. If Mordor players kill them, they get even more gold.
It's another reason why Mordor must hurry to destroy the houses.
They are mechanical, so they cannot be teleported with mass teleport by the priests.

I will try to tix the other points and add more custom models/abilities etc. but I think that it is not necessarily bad to start with the standard items/abilities because it is hard to balance custom stuff.
I will try to host the linked maps since most of them cannot be played alone.
I am not sure if I can prevent flying units from entering waygates.

The villagers are trained from the houses automatically if enabled and move automatically to the top of Minas Tirith.
You can disable the training to prevent moving them to the top if you are not sure if they will survive it.
It will be disabled automatically as soon as the gate is destroyed.

Great map ! maybe an improvement to catch middle earth's texture would be great, but the work is already massive big up !

Made several improvements after playing it with Reforged online (see tdauth/minas-tirith) and (tdauth/minas-tirith):
  • Fix hero icons in multiboard.
  • Fix updating camera distance after using "-far".
  • Fix a bug which allowed skipping the intro after it has been played.
  • Trebuchet and tower upgrades increase damage and armour.
  • Fix tooltip mistakes.
  • Add fountain guard model and make them available when Sauron spawns.
  • Add loading screen description.
  • Fix icon positions.
  • Add player colors to multiboard and revival timers and "-host" command and leave event etc.
  • Add description to villager tooltips that they will give some gold.
  • Fix dropping all items when repicking the hero (they got removed before).
  • Move shops further away from each other.
  • Added quest markers to the gates and Sauron.
  • Fix opening/closing gates via abilities.
  • Fix storing XP when repicking hero via "-repick".
  • Initially increase camera distance.
  • No more cinematic transmissions but game messages for events.
  • If all players of a force have left the game, try to switch the force for one player to continue the game.
  • No more siege damage for riders.
It's small but important stuff.


Here are some issues I will try to fix in the future if I have more time:
  • Path Finding: The most annoying thing is the buggy path finding in Warcraft. Sometimes the units of mordor will walk against walls or the wrong way. Besides if the target area of the teleporters is blocked, they won't always use the teleporters.
  • Attacking over a great distance: When issuing catapults to attack, they don't attack but move there. You have to order attack ground! Maybe I can fix this somehow.
  • Balancing: Another issue is that sometimes either side levels their heroes much better and then the game seems to be decided from half way throug the game. I will try to improve the terrain, add more custom skills/items and maybe better interaction with the units.
  • Fixed heros from the start: Some players expect the player slots/colors to start with a specific hero instead of choosing it. This might be better because you can decide from the beginning which hero you want to player instead of fast clicking in the beginning. I will have to think about this option.
  • Cinematics: The intro video takes too much time and skipping it removes the transmission text. I will try to make a shorter version which explains the stuff better. Also a victory video and some short sequences for important events would be nice but they would break the gameflow.
  • Terrain and interactive stuff: The terrain is very basic. I thought about adding the end of Osgiliath or a better Orc base, destructables and defence structures to the city and the Orc base etc. etc. On the other hand the fields before Minas Tirith are pretty empty in the movie. Maybe I can add some creeps to get items and XP. I could also add the river where the ships arrive with a harbour like in the movie and other maps.
  • Items/spells/balancing/unit types: More custom items and custom spells and balancing etc. Currently the game is very basic.

  • Remove intro video which was always annoying.
  • The prepare phase is much longer now since Gondor always needs its time.
  • Add extra Haradrim building with more units.
  • Gimli and Aragorn can switch to range combat.
  • Siege Towers can be used at the second wall as well.
  • Add blockers between both sides during the preparation phase.
  • Custom spell Morgul Blade for the Witch King.
  • Add minimap markers for Gondor buildings.
  • Open all gates from the start.
  • Use fog of war and black masks but add visible regions for both sides.
  • Add Nazgul scream abilities.
  • Add Nazgul building and limit flying Nazgul to 3.
  • Fix ladder and siege tower positions.
  • Add secret exits for Gondor.
  • Add king Theoden with Riders of Rohan.
  • Fix unit tooltips and change some costs.
  • Add custom Legolas model.
  • Add one more Mordor barracks etc.
  • Add bounty for killing heroes and a message as well.
  • Fix player color in leaving message.
  • etc.

Many changes especially many custom models from a russian website:
  • Custom models for all kinds of units.
  • Troll Drummers
  • New heroes: Troll Commander, Balrog, Tree beard, Arwen
  • Gandalf can unmount horse
  • Kankra can switch to range attack
  • Siege Towers are faster
  • Catapults are slower
  • Gondor has some buildings which can spawn reinforcements (Archimondes Dark Portal spell)
  • Towers next to the main gate which can be reached via portals from a room at the back.
  • Secret exits are in the back room now.
  • Fix issuing mordor units to attack the next gate.
  • Add water and harbours with ships.
  • Gondor Footman have Defend ability.
  • Add dark rangers for Gondor
  • Add riderless horses which can be used by Gondor Footmen.
  • Gates have much more HP.
  • Lembas item.
  • Workers can be trained by all players.
  • Add command "-units" to ping all units owned by the player.
  • Add command "-workers" which pings all workers.
  • Barracks produce 40 supply instead of 30.
  • Decrease preparation time.
  • Repicks are not allow when the hero is dead (allowed faster revivals).
  • Remove goblin landmines which could be pretty unfair especially for unit arrivals.
  • Add remove siege tower spell.
  • Add self destruct spell for siege towers.
  • Fix Theoden's revival timer.
  • Sauron cannot equip teleport items anymore.
  • etc.
Some open issues:
  • better path finding especially for Mordor units
  • sometimes gates trigger open animation although they are closed (maybe a custom model)
  • the new Grond model has no attack or death animation
  • towers have no death animation
  • the new system to upgrade towers/trebuchets doesn't fully work
  • all Mordor heroes need to be able to switch to some range attack mode
  • better balancing: Mordor does often win although it is always close
  • issuing catapults to attack a unit leads them to move to the unit instead of attacking it (maybe the acquire range needs to be higher)
  • improved terrain
  • More custom spells
  • More custom items
  • Add sound effects from the movie for units and events.
  • A chat command to let all units of players also auto attack and barracks auto train if you want to focus on using your hero.
  • When all players of one faction leave, one player from its current team should be auto moved/allow switching the teams with another player during the game.

I have recorded many videos (mainly for myself) to document all issues with the map:

Sometimes the issue seems to be that players don't know that the gates are the most important thing of the game. If the gates get destroyed then Mordor can push via teleports to the next gate.
Maybe it should be clearer from the start or via warnings.
Maybe I could increase the movement speed of all units. In the beginning I wanted to make the terrain smaller but currently I really like it and that you have many units.
Some people suggested that only certain heroes can train certain types of units but I don't really like the idea which is too restrictive. On the other hand only your hero is what differs from other players.


Comparison to Helms Deep
Many players suggested that I should compare my map to the Helms Deep map or change things like that map.
I have watched this video as reference:


When I look at maps like Helms Deep some things stand out compared to my map:
  • it seems that there is far more action/speed during the game.
  • the map is much smaller and the attack comes much faster
  • units die much faster and more units do spawn for the attackers
  • you dont have to train units for defenders??? they spawn automatically??
  • events have small videos
  • Aragorn can knock down ladders
  • you have to research upgrades yourself but have more control over it
  • you seem to defend the same positions for a long time since the map is much smaller and helms deep is much smaller
  • more custom spells/items
  • smaller collision size for units (i had the same idea after some games in my map because we were blocking each other all the time)
  • I don't get how the gates are closed, automatically?!
  • less custom models for many heroes
  • kill messages have the hero names not the player names, maybe heroes are predefined by player colors
  • less hero types
  • custom UI
  • archers have a higher range (I might increase it as well)
  • overall the map seems far less confusing for players and better balanced. There are less unit and hero types and it is much smaller but since I like to add many features which allow different strategies this might not be the way to go for my map. The balancing might get better after more games.

Another big update - version 0.4:
  • Auto spawn system for units.
  • Command flags for spawned units to set their orders. You do not have to worry about going to your barracks and training units all the time anymore and they only cost supply.
  • Gates are next to each other -> shorter paths to attack -> no more stuck units from Mordor and faster gameplay. No more pauses for Gondor!
  • Upgrades cost gold and have to be researched manually by each player.
  • No income but gold from killing units.
  • Units have more distinct abilities: Archers can get into ready position, Rangers and Rohan units have abilities.
  • Rohan heroes can be chosen from the start: Eowyn, Eomer, Theoden.
  • More Rohan reinforcements.
  • Smaller map and Mordor starts next to the walls of Minas Tirith -> allows faster attacking.
  • Some custom items: Anduril, Elvenstar,
  • Limit number of possible repicks with a timer.
  • Add chat command "-votekick X" and "-yes" to votekick players. No more "-host".
  • Reduce preperation time.
  • Regular Mordor Orcs give lesse gold and XP.
  • More custom hero abilities: Flaming Sword (Witch King), Orc Army (Gothmog), Tame Mumak (Legolas)
  • Show current upgrades as floating texts.
  • Fix upgrading to towers, trebuchets and trebuchets with fire.
  • Many bug fixes like training Rohan units, hotkeys, hero descriptions, unit descriptions.
  • Reduce HP of Army of the Dead.
  • Increase HP of siege towers.
  • Grond and the small Orc ram can be recreated from a Siege Workshop.
  • Add commands by default (like training Mumakil).
  • New loading screen.
Some ideas:
  • Allow trebuchts to auto focus on siege towers or siege units.
  • Show minimap icons for trebuchets, towers, empty positions and trebuchets with fire.
  • Fix the attachment of Trebuchets for Fire effect.
  • Make Battle Trolls a bit weaker and Mumakil.
  • Add some cooldown to certain unit types like Grond.
  • Allow barracks to auto spawn more than one unit type and more than one unit per unit type. Add some custom abilities to achieve this.
  • If I will do this, Gondor and Mordor could have only one barrack or none if there are at least some human players.
  • Upgrades should make Trebuchets and towers stronger.
  • Gondor is a bit too strong in the beginning: Balancing.
  • Don't add the teleport in front of the last gate. It is too unfair.
  • Use the new terrain I am working on which has 7 rings and uses the custom model for Gondor walls. It will look much more like the city in the movie. I am working on getting as many references as possible.
  • Fix all issues at: tdauth/minas-tirith

Another great update to version 0.6:
  • Completely revised the map's terrain, size and Doodads: It looks more like in the movie now (round circles, 7 rings etc.) and is much much smaller. This prevents long ways for units, massive lags, stuck units due to AI issues and pauses since Mordor is not really attacking. The old map version was far too big and not round like the city in the movie and the book. It only had 3 rings. I am working on the current terrain and Doodads and will add more buildings from time to time and try to make it look more like in the movie. I have found some useful references like this: Minas2 02012018 and Minas Tirith 3rd Level and G3 and Gt which looks even better than my version. Maybe I have to extract more models and take my time to improve this or even create some models with Blender. However, the terrain/Doodads are not the current focus. I want to make the map playable.
  • The map is only 4 vs 4 now since it was even hard to fill 8 slots in Battle.net. It is more similar to the Helm's Deep map now.
  • Removed overcomplicated stuff: Siege ladders, rescuing villagers, shamans, flying Nazgul, all the Haradrim units except Mumakil, rangers, Rohan units except Riders.
  • Catapults have modi fire and heads now -> one unit type.
  • Mordor only trains Grond and the ram and Gondor has no units anymore. This simplifies the game since you don't have to control too many units.
  • You have only 1 barrack now which simplifies the game.
  • Only two remaining events: Riders of Rohan with Mumakil and Army of the Dead with Sauron. This simplifies the game and the player can train all other units from the start (the siege looks more like in the movie now).
  • Small video sequences with sounds from the movie for the events.
  • Spawned units for events are distributed for players. They do not belong to Gondor or Mordor anymore.
  • All units from non-playing players are automatically removed in the beginning. Only units of human players or computer players with full shared control remain.
  • Reduced the map size a bit.
  • Max hero level is 10 and no more attribute bonus. Reduced the XP gain rate.
  • Lots of balancing: Archers are much weaker now as well as siege towers, gates, grond and the small ram.
  • The siege tower areas are smaller so Mumakil and Grond and other siege towers cannnot go over the wall anymore.
  • More custom spells for heroes like spawning Rangers for Faramir.
  • Hero revival timers are only visible for the owners.
  • The spawn timer will be shown in the multiboard now.
  • Show only one timer for the next event.
  • Gondor and Mordor are not shown anymore in the multiboard.
  • Do not show Gondor and Mordor in the score screen.
  • Added unit kills and deaths columns to the multiboard.
  • No more command flags -> too complicated.
  • Fixed a repick bug when you repicked your hero in the beginning.
  • Riders of Rohan spawn footman when they die.
  • Disabled teleport effect and sound which was quite annoying.

Please report all bugs/issue with this version. It is really hard to fill the slots in Battle.net and to play the map :(
I want to fill the city with buildings and improve the terrain of the city. I also want to add more custom items and custom hero abilities. Currently the buildings inside the city can be destroyed (they are destructables) and drop some items, so Mordor has a reason to destroy the city. Let's see how this works out. I also want to replace Treebeard and Arwen with Merry and Pippin which makes more sense for the movie. Maybe I could add siege tower locations to the second ring and reduce the archer range a bit. I have the feeling that the first ring is down too quickly and that you don't really have to defend the walls. However, with 7 rings there are really many gates. Maybe I remove some rings. Let's see.

The time for the upgrades is quite annoying since you have more gold than you can spend. I will try to to make the upgrades immediatley by buying items or units. Also I am not sure how I can work with the trebuchets. When they die, there is the circle again, so they can be rebuild immediately which makes no sense. They should have a cooldown and the circles should disappear when the gate is destroyed? I was also thinking about giving the trebuchets to players as well instead of Gondor.

Another big update but I keep version 0.6 for this one:
  • Fix counting the limit of Siege towers (include the ones on the wall)
  • Add many buildings and towers with trebuchets to the city.
  • Fix player leaves message for Mordor.
  • Shorter video sequences.
  • Fix removing the video transmission on the first player skip.
  • Fix hotkeys, icon positions, ability IDs and tooltips for unit types which can be trained.
  • Remove Mordor and Gondor training and upgrade buildings. Every Mordor player can spawn Grond but there can only be one. Upgrades for Trebuchets can be done by every Gondor player but they are only applied once.
  • Fix tooltips, hotkeys and icon positions for Gondor upgrades.
  • Fix hero icons in the multiboard.
  • Fix skipping Rohan video (there was a skip action missing at the end which led to two timer dialogs for Army of the Dead).

  • No more formation for archers and they are much weaker now.
  • Idle worker icon is used for workers again.
  • Removed some unused object data etc.
  • The White Tree has less HP.
  • Fix Gothmogs Flying Nazgul ability.
  • Gondor buildings drop items like Runes when being destroyed which can influence the game.
At the moment it seems like Mordor had some time issues when winning the game, so I have increased the time.
Another issue is that with the custom models the team colors are gone. If you enable health bars you will find your units but see lots of health bars instead of units. Without health bars it is pretty hard. The custom models must be adapted with some team color textures which would be really hard work. Besides, some custom models have no death animation: Grond and Siege Towers. And some custom icons for heroes are still missing.
People are still complaining about how confusing the map is although I have tried to simplify many things already. It sometimes lags when too many units spawn, so maybe I either increase the spawn interval or decrease the limits of spawned units (makes more sense I think).
The upper rings have still no towers and buildings, so I am working that.
Mordor seems to have much more gold from killing units and the upgrades are completed before the game ends for units like archers if you only upgrade archers.

  • Change sound channels for sounds during videos.

The city should look good at night with all the torches. This patch should improve the overall gameplay. Custom items and spells are coming next I guess.

I did some minor testing in single player, noticed a couple things, be aware that I know nothing about LOTR so no idea about who is supposed to have what kinda abilities.
Theoden tooltip mentions Holy Light, Divine Shield, Devotion Aura and Resurrection as abilities, instead of those he has Holy Light, Shockwave, Devotion Aura and Avatar.
Gandalf also has Holy Light, and Aragorn also has Shockwave and Devotion Aura.
Eowyn and Arwen both have Fan of Knives and Starfall, Fan of Knives also mentions the Warden.
Arwen also has Blink that mentions the Warden.
At one point the Riders of Rohan spawned, I got 9 of them that had Shadow Strike, not sure how it would go in an actual game but it seems pretty broken for targeting down heroes.
Nazgul and Mount of Sauron both have Howl of Terror and Unholy Aura.
The top left hero in the tavern for evil(team 2) says Dreadlord, I'm just taking a guess but I don't think it's supposed to be Dreadlord.

Thx for the feedback. It's pretty basic stuff yes. Many custom hero abilities are still missing. I have to think of some nice stuff from the movie/battle. I will replace Arwen with Pippin and maybe Treebeard with Merry.

The shadow strike was for a throwing spear ability but is rather strong and you have to choose the target manually. An auto attack based on Phoenix fire with a longer cooldown it probably be better.

I will fix the tooltip etc.

Another big update (still version 0.6):
  • Update text on the loading screen. Make it shorter and more colors.
  • Add new hero "The Watcher" from the first Lord of the Rings movie The Fellowship. He can heal himself from water, spawn tentacles, makes extra damage against buildings and can place himself as siege engine in water and fire across the whole map.
  • New ulti spell "Death" for Théoden which increases the attack and movement speed of allied units based on the number of houses still standing in the city.
  • New spells for Gandalf: "Light" which spawns a big light from the sky which damages hostile units and causes extra damage to Nazgul. "Flame of Anor" (new ulti) which creates a big shield. All allied units which are inside the shield have increased armour.
  • New spells for Aragorn: "King of Gondor" he changes his form to the king of gondor and causes chaos damage for some time. "Athelas" -> based on "Healing Spray".
  • Replace spell "Silence" of Faramir with the spell "Summon Madril".
  • Change spells for Legolas: "Control Mumak" is his ulti now and is time limited. "Elven Eye" -> basically "Critical Strike".
  • Revise all unit spawn tooltips and add the stats of the unit types, the limits aand a hint how the spawn system actually works.
  • Add rally points as movable heroes. Spawned units will move to them automatically.
  • Increase HP of heroes. They die too fast.
  • Create a new citadel based on Doodads instead of the church building.
  • Repick is only time limited after the preparation ended and has a longer time limit.
  • Videos are a bit shorter now.
  • Move camera to the Army of Dead after the video (target location).
  • No workers anymore.
  • Army of Dead is much stronger and faster now.
  • The game ends with the Army of the Dead no more Sauron.
  • Army of the Dead has to kill all Mordor units and the unit spawns stop. All units are marked on the map.
  • Increase time until Riders of Rohan and Army of the Dead arrive.
  • Decrease maximum food for every playing player to avoid lags.
  • Reduce HP of the gates.
  • Replace the White Tree model by a model which actually is a White Tree.
  • New custom model for Easterlings.
  • Scale down Trebuchets.
  • Add column "auto attack enabled" for the chat commands "-autoon" and "-autooff".
  • Fix player colors in messages.
  • Arwen has a range combat mode.
  • Limit battle trolls and riders of rohan on spawning.

  • Use a higher resoultion city texture which affects most of the Gondor models.

  • Fix the hotkeys of the abilities of Mumakil.
  • Show upgrade levels in floating texts above the forges.

From the few games I have played now it seems that the map lags too much with 4 vs 4 even with decreased supply. I am not sure if it is the poor Reforged engine and the massive fights. A unit spawns every 2 seconds for every player now which improved the performance massively. Besides, the lower food limit when more players are online helps. The rally point helps to control your army. Heroes must get stronger. They die too fast. If Gondor plays really good it is really hard to destroy all gates of the upper rings. Maybe Mordor needs some push in the final minutes. However, I want the players to achieve the success by their skill not Sauron spawning or anything like that.

I am trying to configure the Discord bot, so hosted games will be notified. Many many games will be required to improve the balancing but it is really hard to fill the slots.

Some more TODOs which are important:
  • Make heroes stronger so they have some more use. They die too easily.
  • Balancing, balancing, balancing.
  • Custom spells and items.
  • Custom Models for Gothmog and Gandalf the White on a horse (hard to find).
  • Fix killing all houses in the city (dropping items).
  • Mark spawned unit type icons when selecting the barracks (with some effect or change the icon). It is easier to see then what you are spawning.
  • Auto priotize a bit: Grond should always have top priority since he doesn't cost any food. Unlimited unit types make no sense with prioritized unit types. Maybe limit all unit types or mark a unit type in the floating text if he has no priority and overrules all other unit types.
  • Test a bit against AI.
  • AI should close the next gate automatically when a gate is destroyed if it is gondor and no human player is playing.
  • Team colors for models. Currently only HP bars help. It will be reeeally hard to add team colors to all the custom models.
  • Death animations for some custom models. Again it will be really hard so maybe ask for help or add some explosion animation to their death and at least remove the model for Grond and the siege towers.
  • Minimap marker for your own movable rally point.
  • Adjust sound volumes and maybe add more relaxing music.
  • Mouth of Sauron and Gollum need more custom spells.
  • Fix healing and selling items only to allied units for the two bases.
  • Test the "-votekick X" chat command again.
  • Add Merry and Pippin since they appear in the movie.
  • Maybe add King of the Dead as hero.
  • Replace Saruman's "Palantir" spell effect by something more useful.
In many games people again compared it to the Helms Deep map and thought the map has potential but needs balancing, fixes, improvement etc. I think better custom items and spells more related to the movies will make the map more interesting over time but it really takes much time to create custom spells etc. I try to use sound effects from the movie for them.

Another big update but still 0.6. Look at the change log in the description. I took the time and played the Helm's Deep map myself and got some inspiration:

  • It is much smaller than my map and the attack is straightforward, so units won't ever get stucked.
  • More custom spells for heroes.
  • You have those banners which help to defend a point for a long time.
  • Lumber with income for rare units like ladders and rams etc.
  • The event of using the bomb has to be done manually. I like the idea of triggering an event from the story manually. For Minas Tirith I could only think of lighting the beacon in the beginning. I have added it to the map.
  • Heroes are stronger and units weaker.
  • More upgrades and scrolls which can be bought.
  • Different auto train system: Only the basic unit type is automatically trained but the others are not and you have to reenable the basic unit type.
  • Less unit types.
  • Less confusing.

I like to have many different features but it can be really confusing in the beginning how the spawn system works. I have tried to simplify it by auto assigning priorities. The rally points really help to control your army. I could add some ability "reorder" to automatically order lost/stuck units to follow the rally point.

The trebuchets are by far the most useful weapon to defend the city. I have killed like 500 or 600 Mordor units with it. They prevented Grond from breaching etc. However, players seem to forget about using the trebuchets. I could add more messages or use some auto target system. Maybe too many features make the map too complicated.

I want to add Merry as hero and make sure that Mordor has the same amount of heroes. Then I will balance and revise hero abilities until the heroes are more interesting but it takes a long time.

Another big update (see the changelog section). Some of the important updates:
  • Team color auras for all regular units help to distinguish units without team color health bars.
  • The new Easterling Captain hero replaces Gollum. He is really strong if you only spawn Eastering Warriors.
  • The "Ride Down" ability of the Riders of Rohan allows knocking back ground units. This makes them really strong and recreates the events more like in the movie.
  • Rally points have a spell to order all units to follow them (useful if units got lost).
  • Many fixes and improvements of existing spells
