Mighty Goo Race - Techtree Contest 3# - Contest entry

This bundle is marked as useful / simple. Simplicity is bliss, low effort and/or may contain minor bugs.
This map was an entry for the Techtree Contest 3# - It features a custom raced named the Mighty Goo's, which is a heavily mana relient race (something that really didn't work well) and the entry recieved last place in the contest. There are several things that required changes for this to even come close to working and the race is extremely slow to get going (I assume to balance it).

Uploaded here, as I was notified that the old techtree maps were not uploaded to Hive, as is custom now.

It tries to work with the theme of slimes combining to form new units, this is the case with both buildings and units. Most ressources and unit generation are done through mana, as the race hardly uses gold/wood. The race is horribly balanced and everything is very slow. For this to truly work it would require much more work.

I cannot recall much about the map, but it contains some simple triggers and models, made by others and some made/or modified by me.

Yea, I was notified that my maps from those contests weren't actually uploaded to Hive, so I went looking through old drives. (And looking at this old drive, I realize much that also aren't uploaded or never finished :grin:). This definitely isn't a good entry - I recall some of the models and little of the work, but why I made is so awful is a mystery to me. Tempted to update it, but would defeat the point of showing the old entry (other than maybe adding an option for playing an updated version).

I'm just glad to see some of these contest entries being uploaded, I've uploaded mine on occasion in past (and one more recently for the current techtree contest), but it seems like in most cases if you want to find these maps you have to really dig around in old threads

So good to see the old Techtree entries getting some love ^_^

Yea, it is always a shame if something gets lost in time when it could have been saved.

  1. Although the concept is neat, units themselves are nothing special, just stronger variants of each other. They need better roles and less or at all Warcraft III usual spells. Balance also should be thought through to make this faction viable in any sort of game.
  2. You can use Button Manager v1.8.2 to make icons like Goo Spray have the autocast margins. Same: Goo Transfer which by the way doesn't have detailed description:

  3. An issue is the random placement of buildings.
  4. Smart Goo Mother has no mana so it can't upgrade to Spawn Goo Pit of Servants. Lol but after enabling the mana cheat, it can be used.
  5. Hero Goo spells are just merely edited Warcraft III spells.
  6. Ultimate Goo Lord's selection circle is too small.
  7. OK but how do you harvest any resources?
  8. Hero armour could be edited with the button manager program mentioned above to have the upgrade slot.
  9. You can summons lots of goo heroes.
  10. Can't really see how to get to a point where to create another goo mother to try the ultimate goo overlord, without killing all my buildings.
  11. The Amazed buff/aura doesn't serve any purpose.
So, at this point, it's rather not just unpolished but incomplete.

ADDITIONAL NECESSARY INFORMATION
  • A credits list in the map thread description is required where the names of the resource (models, skins, icons, spells, sound etc.) authors are mentioned along with the specific resource. It would be a luxury to have links leading to the used resources. Credits in the Quest Log would be appreciated too.
  • A detailed changelog in the first post would be helpful to reviewers and notify fans about the newest implementations to your map.
  • Map thread tags are important. Please use those that fit and not more or none.

Because stuff should work and be updated otherwise it's Substandard.

I agree, but seeing as this is mostly just updated to retroactively comply with the idea of contest entries being on Hive, updating it from its substandard (or in my mind even lower than that) level is not that much of a hurry. So basically, if I get some freetime, without other projects, I will change it.
