LOTR Risk Strongholds: Complete

Gameplay and Features:

LOTR Risk Strongholds: Complete is a 20 player Risk with a dynamic spawn system that changes based on whether or not you currently own the relevant greater region. The broken isle of Númenor in-game contains books which explain it in more detail.

Depth:

LOTR Risk Strongholds: Complete is similar to Middle Earth Risk, but adds the eponymous strongholds, creep-controlled forts that players can capture.

Strongholds provide:
- Gold income. Gold is used for all units.
- Access to heroes that you generally cannot buy elsewhere.
- Renown income (they are the sole source of this, aside from the basic renown income each player receives). Renown is used for more powerful units, repair units and heroes.

The goal of the map is to take over all of Middle-earth. Only one player can be victorious!


Author Notes:

This map was originally created by qpPyKT under the name LOTR Risk StrongHold (1.0 - 2.1). I asked him for permission to work on the defunct map, which he graciously gave.

I worked on the map for five years, from 2014 until 2019 (from LOTR Risk Strongholds 3.0 until LOTR Risk Strongholds: Complete...)

The map is unprotected and I give people permission to learn from it and edit as they wish. I do ask, however, that those who edit this map to create their own version(s) please credit me as the editor and qpPyKT as the original creator. Same as if we'd made a model, icon or skin for you.




LOTR Risk Strongholds: Complete:

+ Forochel is more open.

+ Mariners have 7 (+1) armour.

+ Minor miscellaneous changes.

+ Four observer slots (Palantíri).

+ Gondorian Archers have 6 (-1) armour.

+ Added many doodads to populate areas.

+ Gondorian Spearmen have 8 (+1) armour.

+ The Hill Towers model is unique to them.

+ The Silvan Gatehouse has a custom model.

+ Doodad housing is now culturally consistent.

+ The Hornburg Gatehouse has a custom model.

+ The Galadhrim Gatehouse has a custom model.

+ Minor aesthetic changes in the Northern Waste.

+ Added a generator to Thranduil's Court (aesthetic).

+ The Dunlending Tower has a custom model and icon.

+ A -clear command to get rid of the opening messages.

+ Ranged attacks now deal 175% (+25%) damage to Infantry armour.

+ Polearm attacks now deal 175% (-25%) damage to Barding armour.

+ Replaced the Captain of Umbar skin with a model, as it was affecting some other resources. Changed the CoU icon to better suit the new model.

The map is 20 player.

This has been a monolithic task. I'd like to thank everyone who's been involved (especially the Ascendant Core) and everyone who downloads it from here on.

Your sound files converted from .wav to .mp3 . Cuz i don't like wav. and also optimized.

I did this cuz when i extracted your .wav files they were 108 mb.

Thank you kindly. The map size was getting a mite out of hand, even with shorter clips. I'll have a look at these files immediately.

Edit: Fantastic stuff. We'll incorporate the new files with the next patch.

Hi guys ! i love playing this, i would like to make a special pve/survival mod on this map but i can't manage to open it, my world editor crashes every time i try to open it both on ancient world editor and the new one. idk what the problem is

Glad to hear you have fun.

As for the map and editing, I have no idea why it would do that. There is no map protection on it and I only ever use the default world editor.

Does the map give some kind of error code, just fail to load, or crash to the desktop? If you can give me some more details, there may be a way to figure this out, together.

Edit: I also recommend you wait a little longer, if we do resolve this issue - a new patch is coming soon.

Hi ! thank's for the reply ! well it says the application has terminated, it crashes every time, i'll try to install again maybe it's the problem i don't know, i'll come back to you if theres anything new.

LOTR Risk Strongholds is one of those maps that has persisted in this Silver Age of Warcraft 3. A treasured time-piece and one of the highest quality productions the community has to play, Sinandur has spent extensive time working on this map. LOTR Risk Strongholds is an example of what can be created when creativity is fully unleashed. This vision of Middle-Earth is one that shall stand the test of time, and one that certainly brings a sense of pride to all Warcraft 3 playing Lord of the Rings fans. It is an honor to see this project at its completion. Godspeed and God Bless Sinandur!

Let's see if this gets to 1,500 downloads by Reforged.

I'd hope for 2,000, but I'm not actually sure when RF is coming.

Edit: Looking around in the map, it strikes me that LOTR Risk Strongholds is a testament to the fantastic community on the Hive.

This map wouldn't be Strongholds without all the fantastic models, icons and skins that make it feel like you're really stepping into a war for the fate of Middle-earth.

I'm sure I followed a few trigger tutorials too.

Thanks also to those who revealed the hidden resources in Warcraft 3, some of which I used.

So... a huge thank you to everyone on the Credits list and to the Hive Workshop as a whole.

TL;DR: thanks to you all. It's been a journey.
