Lights and medium cavalry

I’ve always been disappointed that humans only had the knight as a cavalry unit, a heavy cavalry unit. So I decided to take inspiration from Age of Empire and create 3 models from tier 1 to 3, starting with a scout, a light cavalry and then an average cavalry. I also take my inspiration from : Shichuan Wang Human Hussar .

My vision of these units :

Tier 1 ( Left of the main screen ) : Scout Cavalry : A very fast cavalry, without armor and little armed. Can see very far and useful for attack of defenceless peasants. Not very good versus any other units.

Tier 2 ( Middle of the main screen ) : Light Cavalry : A not-so-well-armed by-pass cavalry but a good enough fighter to attack archers and enemy warmachines. Can’t hold the main battle line.

Tier 3 ( Right of the main screen ) : Medium Cavalry : A front cavalry, sufficiently armed to hold the first line of a fight but slightly slower and with less field of vision than its lighter versions.

Each Unit has portrait, icons and heroic version.

Each models need import of news texture.

Note : The models symbol for the Human Empire comes from Neverwinter wiki and add there by Hawchang (External link)

Planned :
  • Rework the walk animation, the basic one has a strange rotation of the sword and for medium cav a better grip of the sword during the animation.
  • Rework the attack animation to make it more punchy.
  • Change the armor of the too much classy light cavalry.
  • Texturing improvement.

I really like the diversity it offers but I have a few remarks:
  • The shield being white on the Medium cav feels a bit out of place in terms of texturing
  • The attack animation for all of them seems to lack a bit of punch (considering it comes from a ranged attack)
  • The texture resolution (or rendering I don't know) of the scout cav seems very low detail / out of place for a Reforged unit
  • The light cavalry cloth are 'distinguished' and seem out of place for a light cavalry (makes it looks like a noble cavalier)

I really like those models nevertheless and feel like they can fit in many fantasy map that needs a large cavalry variety.

Thanks a lot for your inspection of these models and comments.

  • It was originally the captain’s shield, but the fact that he was with team colors prevented the sight of the symbol for the human empire. So I edited it in plain white but it’s a good remark, it denotes too much. I will try to improve it with my poor photoshop knowledge :) .
  • Yes, i think also that but i have not find any suitable animation to replace it. I will try to modify some frame to make it more punchy.
  • It was the more basic edited model, it's the original texture resolution of the Renegade Wizard without the gold aspect and with the symbol. Hum maybe my export (save) of the modified file is not good, i have to search for a solution, thanks !
  • Duly noted, i have to change his body armor for a more classical one.
I have work to do, thanks again :).
