A map made during the last 2 months, I intended to coincide its release with the released of Reforged, but turns out I was still faster :D. Credits to the following people for:

What is Legends of the Secret War?
Legends of the Secret War is an Aeon of Strife-styled map using the game rules of Conquest.​
I didn't click on the link, what is Conquest?
It's basically a game mode where you go around the map, either killing Heroes or capturing control points to reduce the opponent team's reinforcement tickets. You win when the opponent's tickets reach 0.​
What does the map feature?
The map currently features:​
- Up to 8v8 players​
- 27 Heroes representing (most of) the major races from Warcraft: Human, Orc, Undead, Elf, Troll, Goblin, Demon, Naga​
- A unique, thematic skillset and upgradable talent for each hero.​
- A full-fledged item system: Over 40 combination items (more planned to come)​
- Neutral creeps (they respawn about 60-120 secs after being killed)​
- A collection of lore if you're the kind of person who's into reading​

There are a lot more for you to discover. Just remember to check out the Quest Log if you feel like you're missing out on something.​

Changelogs
We go Reforged!
The map now runs in HD mode. In addition, I've rewritten tons of code to make operations more efficient (gameplay should be noticeably less prone to hiccups) and the map less leaky, too.​
You may also notice that some effects are still their SD version. It was my choice to make them stay SD for better clarity.​

HERO CHANGES​
- Goblin Warlord's Mutation: Increases attack speed and movement speed by 50% at all levels.​

- Minor changes to improve performance.​

GAMEPLAY CHANGES​
- All Random: At the beginning, Player 1 can type -ar to give each player a unique random hero.​

NEW HEROES​
- Satyr Hellcaller (INT): Mystical Hero, adept at causing havoc with magical spells. Can learn Life Drain, Corrupted Vines, Rain of Chaos, and Diabolus.​
- Felhound (AGI): Agile Hero, adept at maneuvering against spellcasters. Can learn Enervate, Fel Spines, Manastalker, and Vortices.​
- Minotaur (STR): Stout Hero, excellent at overwhelming the opposition with bullish power. Can learn Smite, War Slam, Tough Hide and Mythical Strength.​

NEW ITEMS​
- Potion of Invisibility: Consume to become invisible for 30 seconds. Invisibility is lost upon attacking or casting spells. Costs 200 gold, bought at Camp Lounge (II)

HERO CHANGES​
- Battle Mage's Enchanted Sword: Mana requirement per second increased from 4/7/10% to 6/8/10%. Damage gained per mana rescaled from 0.5/0.5/0.5 to 0.3/0.4/0.5​
- Psychic's Psychic Assault: Now affects all units with mana, not just Heroes. Delay improved from 2 seconds to 1 second.​
- Psychic's Telekinesis: Maximum damage per Intelligence improved from 1.5/2/2.5/3 to 1.6/2.4/3.2/4​
- Warden's Fan of Knives: Damage improved from 30/90 to 50/150​
- Warlock's Void Infestation: Fixed deselecting the target enemy​
- Elementalist's Staff of Replenishment: Fixed being able to target enemies (thanks deepstrasz)​

VISUAL CHANGES​
- Dead Man's Shoes is now called Bloodseeker's Mask, with new icons​
- Visual changes to the map, updated tooltips​
- Special messages and announcements should show up properly for all players now​

HERO CHANGES​
- Demon Hunter's Metamorphosis: Demon Form's movement speed improved from 300 to 320​
- Soldier of Fortune's Armor Buster: Multiplier improved from 2x to 3x, chance to multiply rescaled from 15/20/25/30% to 12/16/20/24%. Damage bonus from Fight Me! is applied after multiplication.​
- Elven Pariah's Disrupt Magic replaced with new spell "Mageslaying Curse":​
Deals 20/24/28/32 damage per second to an enemy unit over 5/6/7/8 seconds. Damage is doubled if the target casts a spell. At the end of the curse (buff ends or target dies), the target's nearby units are silenced for 3/4/5/6 seconds.​


ITEM CHANGES​
- Black Translucent Shield: Now returns the attack damage taken instead of the wearer's base damage. Chance is unchanged.​

- Soldier of Fortune's Fight Me!: Damage bonus is now "green" damage​
- Blood Lord's Hunting Ground: Area of effect reduced from 500 to 400, duration from 15 to 12 seconds​
- Battle Mage's Somersault: No longer interrupts the attack of Heroes​
- Battle Mage's Enchanted Sword: Damage bonus is now "green" damage​
- Psychic's talent reworked: When the Psychic casts a spell, enemies within 500 distance has a 25% (50% at level 2) chance to be slowed for 2 seconds​
- Elder Druid's Zeal: Damage bonus is now "green" damage​
- Doombrute's Charge: Disabled terrain deformation​
- Paladin's Divine Wings: Disabled sound effect​

- Death Knight's Black Edge: Duration improved from 4/6/8/10s to 6/8/10/12s​

I've had the pleasure of testing this map quite a few times - I found it really refreshing as an AoS. The abilities are straightforward, the heroes are clear, and the implementation of capture points is novel. I also personally enjoy learning the recipes, and the sense of power progression. Definitely worth it for fans of the genre!

Ulfsire basically took the words out of my mouth for what I was going to say haha. Glad I was able to help with this and can't wait to see how this evolves!

Tested on 1.31.1.

  1. Essence Thief has no hotkey, at least not a visible one.
  2. Creeps (ogres for instance) have their aggro range too much. Barely went up the ramp and they started coming.
  3. You can draw them out to the control point tower. It's basically an exploit. And then allied units come to aid even as far as the creep camp. Maybe the neutral hostiles should regenerate when they get back to their home.
  4. Somersault can get you on cliffs and blocked there until you use the spell again or are killed or teleport or stuff like that.
  5. Enchanted Swords (level 1) gives 5 damage and that lasts 18s but mana is not drained more than the initial 50 and there's no more bonus attack damage than the 5 I'm given at the initial cast.
  6. There are four heroes belonging to some neutral player on a small patch of land (island) in the east.
  7. Why the terrible Bronze Dragon and not a terrible Bronze Dragon since there are two of them not one? Same with the turtle.
  8. Not sure if it's balanced to resurrect at a control point tower near the enemy base when pushing.
  9. Boots of Speed and Upgraded Boots of Speed have the same icon.
  10. I think you should write the order of recipe items from I to the max shop number.
  11. In singleplayer the southern team doesn't spawn any army units.
  12. Why should the Barracks play the train animation constantly? It should play when units are actually being trained. The enemy's play the animation too but there are no units coming as mentioned above.
  13. Lanes are only viable until past the middle where all units go towards the barracks zone.
  14. Maybe the Scepter of Healing's buffs should be renamed? At least the Scroll of Protection?
  15. So, towers become invulnerable and deactivated and then come back again? They should at least look disabled.
  16. After the enemy barracks are down, the troops don't go to their main base but return to the allied base.
  17. The towers reanimate even if the barracks are no longer there and the allied troops still go there instead of the remaining enemy buildings in their base.
  18. Research Improved Fortifications should say how many levels it has.
  19. Inner Focus' buff is called Spirit Touch.
  20. The Water Guardians have no turn animation on 0 movement speed and they attack with their backs.
  21. Started a singleplayer match (violet colour or anyway the lighter purple) on the Borean side and none of the teams started sending any troops.
  22. Staff of Replenishment can be used on enemies too.
  23. Not sure if that gold rush is a good idea. Maybe runes of temporary boni instead of gold coins?
  24. You should remove the intro text and wait. It's not nice seeing it every time. It can't be skipped. People like getting into the action quickly.
  25. Mageslaying Curse says it lasts 0 seconds after learning it.
  26. Domineering Brilliance's buff is called Brilliance Aura.
  27. Mageslaying Curse' buff is Mind Rot.
  28. Realm Shift=Banish.
  29. Added a computer player for the northern team and player as red in singleplayer and none of the teams spawned any troops.
  30. What's the sense of the Goblin Merchant's items to have more stacks if they have no cooldown.
  31. Mana Flare lasts forever?
  32. Ah, alright, you need at least one control point under your team for troops to spawn.
  33. The northern side has one ogre lord, one mauler and one magi while the south has another mauler instead of a magi.
  34. Magic Defense=Magic Shield.

Generally a nice DotA+newer AoS mix.
However, it is not Capture the Flag so I removed the tag.

Gameplay
Picked the Death Knight but I also checked the other heroes, cool that you are able to read their abilities before playing them. Since it has no AI, I had to play it with one of the members from my discord server. We both enjoyed it. I do like how organized the shops are, the recipes as well. The abilities of the heroes vary from simple to complex ones, exactly as they should. :pgrin: Friendly fire seems to be available (only with your own controlled units). The laboratory (neutral building) offers 2 cool things, you can improve the defenses of your team's structures as well as hiring that Steam Machine (you can load in heroes and travel on the map. Very cool). I picked the Lich after that. Very cool hero, the Haunting Presence ability is awesome. :plol: Another cool thing, whenever you click on the Innate Ability of your hero, he/she says something funny.

Terrain & Aesthetics
The map layout is well designed for such type of AoS. The ugly cliffs could be covered with something though. I like how the bases are situated on the map, same as for the capture points, they are placed well enough and equally for both teams. :plol:

Various spells from simple to advanced ones. Not all of them combo together but at least 2 of them do and that's enough. :psmile:

Final Suggestions
The lanes seem to be very very large considering that not many creeps spawn on each. There is the possibility to travel using the Town Portal Scrolls but some waygates around would be nice to reach faster from a point to the other. A minor AI system meant only for singleplayer testing would be nice. Aside from this, I really don't see anything bad with this AoS. 5/5 from me with congratulations for choosing a hard type of map to work on. :plol:

Nice map, just the kind of map that i like so much.
My opinion/suggestion :
+ Nice positioning of the control points, this respect the classic trilane and gives the players a comfortable experience.
+ Good quantity of heroes, all of them with custom spells.
+ Good organization of items, the item combination is easy to learn.
+ The description of the heroes its nice and the possibility to see the spells of the hero before pick as well.
+ The points system and the towers system are really nice.
- I feel that the heroes are a bit unpolished but most of them are okay.
- The map is too large i think, maybe with 10vs10 the map will be ok but with less players the map are the worse. Put some way gates or give the heroes a innate tp ability.
- The towers doesn't feel strong, i can kill a hero just there and get away unpunished.
- Also some heroes need a revision (as you saw i broke all with the dreadlord hero even with his W bugged)

Overall its good and can be improved. 4/5 my rating.

i downloaded it for the lolz with a couple of friends but i gotta say it... we had a lot of fun! , nearly at the end of the game for some random reason one of my buddies's hero stopped respawning and the counter would just loop over and over

Oh! What was the hero and how did it happen? Do you have a replay?
