LavaBridge.v075

my 24th model iv ever uploaded. getten close to the big TWO FIVE!

this model was originally created from the doodad known as Doodads\Terrain\IceBridge\IceBridge. it was made to complement my 4 other ''Lava Slag A-D'' (only of which ''A'' is currently done [sry guys]) again using the outland doodads texture just like my other lava slags

the main Idea for this bridge, was dynamics. the original ice bridge, literally has ''stand'' and that's it.

but my bridges in my map are not static like that, they will be born, and stay around a while, maybe even move around, and like all things pass away eventually.

I used similar emitters to my original lava slag model only beefed up in size to keep the general style (bubbles and water rings)
then I re animated every bridge segment from scratch. they use the same original bones I just deleted all the global sequences.
also fixed some meshes so they move around easier and don't clip as much
I then added a big square shaped glow made bright yellow that covers all of its origin and around its perimeter, this sometimes shows through the cracks in the bridge making it look even more intense and spooky to cross
I kept the emitters to an adult roar so other fiery details can be added by others, I was thinking about adding a fire trap doodad particle emitter but I decided against it.

because this is a doodad, any scale is fine, how ever I suggest the X/Y of in game placed doodads between 100-200 and the Z can be any thing you want from 25-500, because with a low Z it almost looks like a bridge made of lava slags, if made with a high Z, they look almost like volcanic cliff burgs bobbin up and down.

im very proud of this model, it took less then a day to think about and less then a day to execute so it wasn't a really hard model but I think its nice. I think it made its self into a nice result.

give credits and what not, feel free to edit if needed and what not.

--side note-- to use this as a bridge, instead of copying and pasting ''ice bridge'' and simply changing the model, I advise you look into invisible platforms. I don't think il be creating a ''horizontal'' or ''diagonal/diagonal 2'' variations. so if you want a bridge going in more then the forward to back ward direction, go look into those invisible platforms. they are interesting.

list of animations:
Birth -- pieces rise from the depths
stand -- the pieces all bob too and fro
death -- the bridge as a whole disintegrates and all the pieces slowly bob under back into the depths

--Update 1-- changed internal name from ''Ice Bridge'' to ''Lava Bridge''

--Update 2-- pointed out by a user named tulee, the birth and death animations have been set to looping this whole time. the new version you should have now is 75

Keywords:

Cool, might be useful for me.

A couple of things though,

1. I suggest not showing or maybe just lessen those bubbles and shockwave things on stand animation since if you think about it, the rocks should already have settled and not cause disturbance to the flowing lava so it should not create as much disturbance to it as in the death and the birth animations.

2. There is one unused texture. Also, try removing those textures that are not visibly used, e.g. ice texture and the glow.

seems useful, although the textures look a little too stretched especially on top of the model. should try using cliff textures or something they might work better though may be annoying to wrap, it seems possible if the original stone bridges used them, also would make them match the tile-sets. I imagine this would look awesome with the dungeon natural cliffs.

@GreeN!X

1.) the bubbles are necessary because the rocks are not settled, not even during stand, that's why they bob up and down in stand, to look unstable, dynamic, like the bridge could melt and sink away any second. the bubbles need to be permanent because the other lava doodads I have are going to be equipped with them as well as the yellowy orange water rings, which are both to help hide the vertexes in the ground from vision when doing the up and down movements. this matters if your bridge is not on perfectly flat land. as long as the rings and bubbles are all visible, the ground doesn't even really matter too much. but all the particle emitters are just eye candy, without them, I feel it looks bland. I feel they are as weakened as I feel comfortable with. other wise terrain tiles show through them too powerfully such as lava cracks.

2.) the ''Textures\Ice_Ice.blp'' texture is being used by the bridges ''surface area'' bridges work similarly to invisible platforms, there is a platform of vertexes that crosses the top of this model, if you make an ice bridge doodad in game, and walk a unit across it, you'll notice hes not on the burgs them selves, but above the ice burgs, it uses ''Ice.blp'' to make the entire rectangle all along the bridges surface area invisible by having the rectangle on an alpha channel. because I don't know enough about editing bridge models, I left that part alone for a reason.

the other 2 textures are textures im still messing with in this model and am still experimenting with to use with particle emitters.

@Skypsi

This texture is just to match my other lava burgs. I couldn't find a good texture that had red going to black, and then that same black, on top

the texture I did use is exactly what I wanted, which was the blood red, going to darker and darker grey, to black, which is hard to find in the mpq-- the texture how ever is very small. but mostly my reasoning is if you look at the outland rubble doodad you realize its actually a pretty good texture, just a bit stretched on something this massive like a bridge. that's what the emitters are for, to draw ur eyes away from the kinda stretched tops to whats on the bottom in the cracks, but other wise there is no good texture in my opinion any way, to replace it with.

but If and what ever the cause, im going to try very hard, not to use terrain cliff textures. they are just awful.

glad you like it GreeN!X

glad you like it too Skypsi, your guys comments are always appreciated.

once this contest is over il focus more on these emitters again

how do I change the model of a bridge to this model?
when I do it, it doesn't work for bridges, but works for doodads only.

could you help me how to properly use this model for something like a platform or a bridge please?

the bridge model its self is ugly, and I broke it some how.

your going to need to use the invisible platforms method, because something about bridges is inherently flawed when making custom models, I did not realize this when I started this project.

Edit 2018: (lol)

ok I set the animations flags to ''non looping'' on the birth and the death animations, this may help some trigger editors or even normal map makers with the buggy ice bridge duplicates.

I created an invisible platform but when I place the bridge so a unit is supposed to cross to the other side of a river, it doesnt, the bridge stays below water and not how its supposed to be
