Map Info:

IceCrown Arena (IcA) is an easy-to-get-into arena map with great replayability.
Find the best heroes and item progressions for any mode or victory type and execute them to perfection!

The map is 3v3v3v3, but any number of players can enjoy it; AIs are included!

Optimized for HD, compatible with SD.





Gameplay:

What IceCrown Arena excels at is the gameplay modifiability. At the start of the game, the host decides:

Pick type:
Does everyone pick their hero, or are they random? A mirror match perhaps?
Game length:
After you duke it out in 5 minutes, you can show off your carry skills in a 45-min battle next game!
Game mode:
A classic hunt for coins, or perhaps a fight in the arena from the beginning? How about some invading creeps?
Game ending:
Sometimes you finish the battle in an arena. Sometimes you runaway from an apocalypse. Sometimes, it's time for battle royale!
Victory type:
Do you want to score the most kills, or be the last one to survive? How about just dealing the most damage?


Play your favorite combination over and over, or try them all.
Example gameplay variants:
A fairly default game setting. You pick both early game and late game heroes, go around the arena as a team, trying to get kills as early as possible to snowball into a favorable position later, while picking up all powerups you can to get additional points.

When all map features disappear and are replaced by just a few trees here and there, you won't have much choice but to go in and fight. Hope to get as much damage out as possible before the ending comes and the gameplay area starts shrinking!

Host picks a hero to fight with in a small arena in the middle. You have to rely on both luck and skill to come out of the teamfights with the most kills before the ending comes and undead start invading in large numbers. Killsteals allowed!

Select the heroes you want before others do. Build up a lead and carry it over into the lategame, choose the best items and kill the most creeps and heroes you can before you're overwhelmed.

Everyone'll run with the same heroes over the map through dozens of gold coins and other powerups with lots of levels and money. However, no matter how farmed you get, if you don't find a good hiding spot when Apocalyptons start roaming the arena, it was all for nothing!

Other features:

3 difficulties of custom AIs. Fill up your lobby with computer players - not perfect, but a challenge nonetheless!
Varied battleground. See over nearby areas when standing on thrones, get slowed when walking over shallow water. Easter eggs included!
No spawncamping. Bases protected by gates, kicking out intruders after kills or escaping, protective healing towers (to regain mana you'll have to go on a hunt for runes though).
Comeback mechanics. Killing enemies with higher levels or killstreak will reward you and punish the dying player with longer respawn time.
Artifacts. Get 50 lumber on start, 10 lumber for each kill. Buy powerful artifacts for 50 lumber to decide your game!
22 unique heroes, damage numbers, leaderboard, -help and -zoom commands, respawning trees, QWER spell binds...

I started making this map over 11 years ago. It was my first bigger Warcraft 3 project and I learned most of my knowledge here. I touched it here and there over the years, but only when Reforged was released last year I got the motivation to update the map and make it something I could be proud of. After too much time spent on a project that nobody will probably play anyway, I decided it's time to put it out. I hope you'll enjoy it!

As a small note, yes, some models are from classic, some are from Reforged. Since I want the map to remain classic compatible (I know some models are funnily large there though, not much to do there either), I decided to keep the custom models and icons as they initially were. Hopefully you'll get used to them just as much as I did after a few games. If there's a way to show different models based on the version of the client the player is using, please let me know.

I played a couple games on this map, one standard and one invasion and I thought it was pretty enjoyable. Hopefully if you keep updating this map, you plan to include more items cause I think whats available is a little underwhelming, but the hero designs seem pretty good. I think the map is good and the motivation to roam the map is there as well, but I personally would like it if the other structures had a bit more purpose. Also, I think the AI is pretty good, though sometimes I don't see them buying very many items and they make it to the last arena fight with only 1 or 2 items outside of the ones that give 1 stat, but I guess it depends on their success. Anyway, thanks for making this map, I'll keep an eye on it.

Hey, thanks for giving it a shot!

What do you mean by "the other structures" that should have a bit more purpose?

AIs currently spend most of their gold on xp tomes and they're aiming to fill their inventory with artifacts instead. I'll definitely consider getting them to buy items from the mid shop as well but so far it wasn't priority (since it'd require some additional logic to decide when and which of these items are better than artifacts or mayhem items)

I'm currently on some sort of a break, as I spent a lot of energy "finishing" this map to a polished enough state to be publicable here 😅 But I'm writing down further ideas and I'll definitely consider adding more items in some next version, you're not the only one who suggested it 🙂

Can you provide a replay for the Mage Huntress AI bug? I'm unable to reproduce it. A possible cause that comes to mind is that she was so dominating she never returned to base, so she didn't have an opportunity to shop.
Hunter is one of the heroes AI excels at the most since he is very reliant on autoattacking, have you tried it vs players or AIs?

Based on the amount of changes and internal sub-versions inbetween I decided this was more worthy to be 17.0 instead of just 16.3 even though there aren't many new features. The main focus was to make the game more balanced and fun instead. Hopefully you'll enjoy it!
