Human Mage

Created by x-omg-x

Description

One of the alliances' mages in his full armor. His golden armor has been made by the towns' best blacksmith and the leather is handmade by the royal tailor. The armor is very strong and can defend the mage in the times of war. Many people around the town says that his staff is magical and does have contact with the holy souls of heaven.

CloudWolf: Blimey! Since when did you make skins? :) Its a really good start, however, I reckon it could do with some improvements. From a distance, the legs look very bland. I'd recommend adding some extra shading to them around the edges. Also, correct my if I'm wrong, but is the chest meant to be metallic? Right now it looks a bit furry :) And finally, The gold part of the chest could do with some work as it looks fairly flat. Adding your own embossing effect would help it to stand out far better :) All in all though, It's a very good start! It just needs a few minor improvements :)

CloudWolf: Its looking better :) However, it still needs to look less furry and needs more shading. Almost there!! :D

CloudWolf: Still looks a tad furry, however, its definately approvable now :D Awesome work! :)

Everything is very scratchy and doesn't looks like metal. And this is pretty much a viloation of the 75% freehand rule as it is obvious that this was modified enough. A lot of this stuff is Blizzard's original work.

Changed all the armor. The book. The staff. The cape. His shirt -> Skin.
Recolored the hair and only left a few things without changes.

[EDIT]

But, i'll work on the metal and make it less scratchy. If you have any suggestions about what to change, you're welcome ;)

His face, cape and book look the same. You didn't change the bracers, arms and boots either.

Will make the changes more visible ;)

[EDIT]

Skin Updated!

Remade the hair, staff and cape. Changed the boots and bracers. Minor changes in face.
The texture in the screenshot is a picture of before. Just so you can see the changes.

hmm skin looks ok but i dont like the orb it sticks out like a sore thumb. make it more solid in the middle with a glow around it. also change the color. maybe red? or yellow

Well. I like the current color :3
But if there are more suggestions for changing it, i'll do it for sure.

The face is totally the same... atleast it seems like it, please do it abit more free handed.

Maybe try a darker colour for the Metal(if it is metal, I myself thought it was some sort of robe part.) Could use some more highlights and shading on it?

make the Chest piece abit darker if its made of metal... it looks TOO BRIGHT and it could make people think it's cloth...

Will do.

[EDIT]

I havent got any time for it yet, but i'll see if i can do it today or tomorrow.
Im currently very busy with swimming and school and i got a mapping competition too.

I think cloudwolf is beeing a little too nice on this skin.
First of all, how many times have you seen that human face?
It exists on several of the original blizzard models and on many geomerged models here on the hive. The whole idea of a skin is to add something new to this.
If you have problems coming up with something, then think; have i ever seen a face that doesn't look like the human mage?
I assume you have.

Second, i think the contrast between the brown legs and the shirt is too obvious.
You could add a better belt or something instead of a yellow line.

Third.. there's just too little detail.
You could add some folds or seams in the legs, some lacing on those boots, muscles on his arm, and i'd prefer something better on that staff than a wriggly line. Think of a nice pattern or symbol to add to that cape too, and remember, that if you want you can even remove the teamcolour from the cape and place it somewhere else!
This is hardly neccesary though, the cape is a good place, but it's a nice thing to remember.

Finally, the only thing that really stands out on this skin is the shirt. And i think it needs more definition to it. You should use brushes with low opacity when you paint clothes and such, and low hardless when you paint highlights. Add some extreme highlights to the "topmost" parts of the yellow lines (the part you know will be the "highest peak" so to say), and try looking at images of different surfaces before you paint them to find out what defines them.
