General:

Hero Defense AZ is a hero defense scenario modeled after some of our favorite maps. It brings together concepts we observed in maps like Naruto Castle Defense and Hero Defense VN. As we made Hero Defense AZ we focused on making a customizable, dynamic experience to fit the needs of as many players as possible. We implemented this through several user-defined and/or auto-adjusting settings to fit any number of players. We also aimed to create a set of heroes with many different play-styles, including mass-destruction, crowd-control, summon, support, and everything in between. With over 100 items to choose from you'll have tons of builds to try for each hero to find which one works best for you. Enjoy!


Author's Notes:

This map was created on Mac OS X (in the land of PPC) with Blizzard's Warcraft III World Editor. It was tested only on Mac OS X, but downloaders say it works everywhere now. This map is not fully protected, but it is optimized. You can download the latest version in its non-optimized form here. If you modify the map in any way and distribute it, please give us credit, and make sure players can clearly see that it was edited from the original and is not an official version.

We always appreciate feedback, suggestions, and criticism.

We've put a little effort into few guides. The hero guide is the only that is even remotely presentable so far. If people show an interest we'll add/improve more guides.

  • Max hero level is 200, so you'll (probably) never hit the ceiling

  • Territory mode for a new experience
Hidden Stuff:
  • 4 hidden hero passwords awarded at the end of the game if certain conditions are met
  • 10 hidden legendary items acquired under particular conditions while holding a specific item
  • 2 secret shops which can be found through exploration and/or completion of certain requirements
  • 5 Easter-egg-like events

Man, this is such a shame. I don't know what the culprit is but I can't seem to play the map. The bar loads until it is full then an error message shows, thus preventing me from playing. It's such a shame because from what I read in your manuals, they seem good, especially with the variety of heroes and items. Of all the survival maps I've played, they only show but a few heroes, probably fewer than 20.

Though I have not yet tried yet, I'm giving it a +rep for you to be able to fix the error (if possible), and persevere more on it.

EDIT: If anyone else has this problem, I'd like to know. For now try the attached map (I removed some stuff like custom loading bar text).

EDIT: Since the so-called "1b+fix version" didn't fix anything, I've removed it.

cant load the map too, wc3 crashes once the map is (almost) fully loaded.
error message says something about an exception error in the software or something...
not even the fix version seem to work for me :/
it really makes me sad...the map seems to be so good

For anyone who is crashing on the loading screen, read this then tell me which item/ability/unit is causing the crash, if any. (or you can just post the crash log here and I'll take a look at it)

If the source of the crash is discovered I'll fix it in the next update and post it as soon as possible.

After looking for answers for some time I found several instances of the same error, but no solution to it. If it is a problem with the map, then the only way to find it would be to delete each trigger, unit, item, and ability one at a time until the error no longer appears.

Hi i found something in a german forum saying something about the same problem.
he said that he couldn't use the component A004 anymore because his antivirus had something done to his raw data of the tooltips.

I see a green icon and no ability to describe. Where moderator looks. -_-

I'd be happy to fix that if you'll give me some details. Is it a hero ability? If so, which hero and which ability?

EDIT: I set aside some free time to look for green icons, and I was able to find two (Moontear Priestess' Summon Moontear Guardian and Ghost King's Shadow Spawn's Ghost Storm). If anyone happens to find another, please let us know.

Probably one of the best maps that I have played, the Computer AI is nice and the item and hero variety is something you don't get often

I really love this map, there is only a problem the map crashes at the end of the loading screen.
For me this didn't happen before version 1c, it worked fine on version 1a and i never tried version 1b.
Does anyone know how to fix this? It's really annoying that you can't play such a good map.

There is already a crashing example in a post, there for ill not post another.

EDIT: Btw is there more than 4 secret characters in the game, i have seen 4 on version 1a.

I'm really sorry about the crashing issue. :sad:

I suspect that the crashing error may have something to do with a save error by the Mac version of the World Editor OR some conflict with anti-virus software. If it is an editor issue, *maybe* if it was saved in the Windows version of the editor it would work... maybe. You could try it, since the map is not protected.

One "fix" I read about was to delete all the triggers and delete units, abilities, buffs, and items until it worked again; then whichever thing was last deleted was the thing that was causing the error. Deleting and then remaking that thing would fix the map.

I'm setting aside some time to do another series of Google searches for this issue. I have about an hour so hopefully I'll find some answers.

I found a guide to fixing the erros here: http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/...ls-278/removing-loading-screen-crashes-39360/. Since I've never had the error, someone else will have to find it. Finally i have gotten the map to work for me, to bad it doesn't work for my friend yet :p.

Great work on the map so far, i have still 3 heroes to unlock and some items to find though ;D.

I'll be waiting for the next update, if there is a next update ;D.

:grin: So, how did you get it working?

For me it started working just after resaving it with worldeditor, but it doesn't work anymore so i guess i did something else. It's kinda weird in my opinion, that it started working so easily the first time i did it. At the moment i'm kinda puzzled, and i'm looking for a way to start it again...

Great map though!

tried it with my friend and it crashed for both of us :/

Same here even with the new versions. Still crashing at the end of the loading screen.

Btw I tried to save your map with my NewGen WE but when I try to do so it finds errors in your triggers and it gets forever stuck on the error found message.

I am currently testing in single player, review coming soon.

Edit 1: Apparently when starting single player, it does a fatal error at the near-end of the loading screen...

Edit 2: Author please help and contact me, this map can't be tested by adding computers either.

The bad news is: if it does not work for you on single-player, it shouldn't work on multi-player either.
The good news is: we're working on it.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Any information you/anyone have/has about the crashes is always appreciated. I'd like to be done with these problems soon...

lol u keep updating the map,but when i created the map and wanted to play with others,the map loaded till almost finish and warcraft 3 stop working.If we cannot even play this map what the point of u updating it?Pls fix this bug ...

I'm very sorry that the map doesn't work for you. So far no one has been able to figure out what the problem is.

The updates are for the people who are able to play it.

I think i can confirm that the error lies in something you did between the 1a and 1b version, i just downloaded versions a-d from another site and all of the versions except 1a crashes in the loading screen and gives the exact same error.

In this thread http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/world-editor-help-zone-98/testing-map-207570/ it is mentioned that the mapper changed something in the object editor and got this same exact error.

I'm no mapper and have no clue what exactly what to look for but i hope this can help some atleast.

I debug and found error in your map:
war3map.j --> line:600 --> set u=CreateUnit(p,'N03D',4231.9,13815.2,270.)
If i remove this line i can load without error.

I use Win7 and War3 version 1.24e.

Later today I will remake that unit with a different ID. Hopefully that will work.

Hey hey i think you shouldn't release new update without testing error.
New update still crash when load with same error at same line 600: set u=CreateUnit(p,'N053',4227.3,13827.6,270.)

I don't know anything about create map :D but i suspect about your N053 unit. Another little suspect is location of create unit (Just very little suspect :D). Ah, still have another suspect: maybe optimize tools accidentally cause this error !! I will try go deep into some execute assembly region |i noob about it so maybe it just speech :)|.

BTW, can you send me non-optimize version, i will check my 3rd suspect.
For sure, will be better if you make a testing version without unit caused error for who can't play this map test.

Last suggestions: Let's me test map before release it.

I take a deep look into assembly execute command and found the error in ability A09A of Firelord. Error when read data <A09A:CastX> (X=1,2,3,4,5) and maybe include <A09A:DurX> (I can't test this because war3 exit when read <A09A:CastX> i see war3 read <A09A:Cast5> first and war3 stop work)
Ubertip:"Calls down a meteor. Takes <A09A:CastX> seconds to cast. Burns the ground for <A09A:DurX> seconds. "

I use non-opt ver and set five Ubertext to default then i can load without error

Edit: I tested with Ubertip:"Calls down a meteor. Takes removed seconds to cast. Burns the ground for <A09A:Dur5> seconds. " and war3 still crash.

Nice, the map works for me now ;D. Unlocked 3 secret characters too, but i think the new secret shop is annoying sometimes, since it doesnt spawn at the same place ;D.

I'll investigate the Centaur thing now since it doesn't sound too complicated. XD
