Guardsman

This is a standard Guardman of the Imperial Guard, from the 40k universe.
All made from scratch (even the texture).

It has 2 types of attack: range and melee. It has a spell throw too, were he's "launching" grenades.

I added Team color in order to let the community using them efficiently in multiplayer maps. It is the Cadian gate on the pauldrons.

It's one of the unit i'll use in my future mod.

I hope you'll find it somehow usefull.

Please, give me credit if you use it in your map, and do not modify it without permission (even the skin, ask me before doing anything)

Warning: do not look this model with Warcraft Model Editor, or other programs. They do not fully support 3dsmax exported models' animation. it would look rude with them. Have a look in the WE, it's better.

Okay, some comments on the comments ;)


1) if I do more details, the model will have too many polygons IMO (as it is already 602)
Then, IG, unless you do a very close camera shot, the unit is detailed enough with the IG "standard" camera.

2) The red thing you can see on the pauldrons are TC. I think I would have been shot if I didn't put any TC.

3) Watch the unit in the game. The warcraft tools you can find in the Hive have some sort of troubles showing animations from 3dsMax exported models. Don't know why.

4) updated the helmet as Warhunter suggested.

Nice model, but I do not believe modern technology use baannets...

Another wrong thing is that I think our age is modern and we still use bayonnets just not often since charging out of your trenches in great nummbers and deaths isnt a very populear tactic anymore... I know US uses them at least. Its by good reasons, you have a knife in any case so why take away the possiblility to stike an enemy from further away with it?

Hehe... I would kill to see some Ork models!! But they would be a PAIN to do.. And watch all the noobs flame and say "no luser!! itz speled orc reeetard!!!".. I'd die laughing..
 
Head needs work. Make a bit more detailed face, and helmet.

1) I don't think I should increase "irrelevantly" the polygons. After all, you're not going to play with close-to-the-head camera, do you?

2) Consequence of the 1) : The model has 608 polygons already, which is quite high. Ok, adding ~40-50 more polygons won't kill anybody, but this will be annoying.

3) Repeating again and again, in the game, I assure you that unless you do a close camera, you won't notice any of these details.

i agree. besides, with the imperials guardsman, people dont notice the tiny details because they are too busy marveling at the baneblade.
and they also die too quickly to have a good look at. just my opinion. dont get angry. i just suck with IG. (-_-")

and no update from me because i havent dont anything in the last 4 weeks. still 2 days to go b4 i do anything.

My problem is the face. That's it. If you could give him that little mouthpiece tabletop Guardsmen have, it might fix it up a bit.

Edit: The rest is awesome. The clothing have a great level of detail, along with the Lasgun and helmet.

These emperial guards are usually idiotically sucky and can't aim. That is probably why all the other races crush them easily if they don't have any tank support at all.
Just some info you guys should know.

True, but we Imperials do have both the Baneblade and different Titans. I would really like to see a couple of regiments of Eldar stand up against that amount of firepower.

Imperial Guard rocks but it is quite weak in early game. Anyway, I agree with what you say. So just model up with the arms and legs, some facial features due to the camera angle and everything will be perfect. Of course, you aren't a full time modeller so I can't expect much.

hey Burning Dragoon can i please remove the weapon from this model and change the texture to make it into an unarmed GDI Soldior for my command and conquer map. I will of course give full credits to u and + rep. please try to reply quickly (my clan wanted to relece it within the next few days and i go on holiday tomorrow)
