Grunt Female

I noticed a lack of female orcs, so on a whim, I made one. A female verson of the basic Orc fighter, the Grunt. Based off of the Watcher with Grunt attack, stand ready, and spell animations.

UPDATE: Better icon.

Whoa, I thought I would never see such a great masterpiece of art and awesomnest!! This is one of the best female orc models, she's not too ugly but not too pretty! Ok, now I'm gonna see how are the animations and portrait...

EDIT: animations and portrait works perfect, and it's cool you used Sorceress animations for portrait!

5/5 - great job Cavman, you are really a talented modeler! +rep

orks are actually male in wh40k, but they spread spores to reproduce. they are male since they look male, sound male, and smoke cigars like males
orcs in lotr are males since they look like males. and sound like males.
you can actually see veins popping on the peon D:

I really don't see what's wrong with the boots, but I'll see what I can do.
But I can't really do anything right now. I was camping all weekend and left my computer at the fixit shop. It was suposed to be back the same day I left and I should have been on by monday, but it turns out it's worse that I thought and now I'm left computerless for a while. I should have it back by this afternoon by the earliest, but knowing my luck it might be a little longer.
Will fix as soon as I am able to.

I don´t know, the only thing that makes her orcy is the color and the helmet.
hmmm, if your up for suggestions make her jaw a bit bigger and remove the helmet, give her those wowish female ork ears which resembles a fatter and smaller version of the elven ears, then give her hair not necessarily the hair thats in the pic. http://i.thottbot.com/ss/o/7965.jpg

Might I just say that I really like this model. Its well done and gives a female orc a more feminine mystique for once rather than some punk rocker. And I would say my personal opinion is to keep the helmet and etc. She's has more to her that make her orcy. How about the teeth huh? And as far as the WoW female orc picture you gave us its.... :ugly: Well it matches the other punk rocker female orcs. :bored: Personally from a girls opinion this is much better.

I did not give you any pic, i linked one from Wow *or rather thottbot*, blizz own fancy game, Besides no need to get all judgmental on my suggestions missy, it was only a suggestion. *forget the hair i did mention not necessarily whats in the pic*. Personally from a Warcraft non dbz geeks opinion it doesn´t feel unique unless its pulled away from looking like a woman with green skin in Orc armor.

...ok nevermind my official comment on your comment is meeh!

I know it was linked to WoW. :gg:I never said it wasn't. Sorry if it seemed I was being hard on you. Wasn't intended to be a flame or mean if thats how it was taken. I was just saying my opinion just was you were. No harm there right? Meh and maybe I am a geek for liking DBZ but we're all entitled to our own likes, dislikes opinions... right? I was just saying I liked it though I do agree they could have done more to make it more unique. But I don't think its bad.

Meh whatever have a nice day. No need to argue anyway since thats not what I'm trying to achieve here.

stop saying hawt! wc3 models are not hot!

I laughed at his comment no offense. :xxd: But just because warcraft models can't be hot for you doesn't mean that he isn't entitled to say its hot for him huh?

Despite the fact that it says: "Updated: Never" I can confirm a change in file size. I suppose Hiveworkshop is just taking a little longer to update.

The wrap looks a lot better, and I think she looks orcish enough. I do agree that you could have used an ingame wrap on this model, but it would probably require a decent amount of knowledge in UV mapping, especially seeing as how no females have green skin in WC3, which ties into features.

Perhaps though, you could wrap most of it using a grunt wrap, then use a 64x64 or 128x128 wrap on the face or any other features? I'm not entirely sure how UV mapping works, but I believe that's possible.

Y'know, about using ingame textures, just select her entire body while doing the UV mapping, seet the angle to 'front' & just turn off the Y axis & set up one side of the skin so it matches up with the othe side then just fit it to the existing grunt skin. I'm not sure if the face would look all that great if you used the Grunt texture for that too, but you should try it out.

I know how to wrap. I wanted to use, and infact made a custom skin for this model because I DID NOT want to use ingame textures.

Unfortunately, only map makers and modelers would catch these things...

Open the .bmp/.tga of the .blp. The 89x96 box that the grunt face sits in needs to be pushed one to the left. That solves half the problem with the portrait. Due to the wrap, the face has a goldish-red line that runs through the center of it still (Portrait Only), which is slightly noticable.

The facial features need some serious shading work. You can hardly see any definition, making the in game portrait seem poorly drawn. Not to mention the wrap kind of makes the shading odd and wavy, which is sometimes common and can be a minute thing.
My suggestion with the shading would be make a greater contrast between the dark and the light. You need dark shadows mainly.

I'm curious, Revellion, how do you set a UV Map so that I can do what you're suggesting to see how it looks? I don't think Magos has UV maping in it's GUI.

I plan on touching up the grunt skin with what little skills I have, but that's all I can do for my own version of the model.

On a positive note, the model has a lot of potential and looks like it could really become something. Possibly even a template for future female orcs submitted to TheHive? We'll see.

I actually found a really awesome, better way to get a female grunt. Not to steal your thunder, here.

I grabbed the Female Warlord model from red_fox in the models section, removed some dead weight from it, then replaced the provided skin with the one by Hueter, called orchuntress_IronRaven in the skins sections. IMO it looks better, and even has a defend animation like a footman. Just remember to give credit.

Of course, it's a hero :\ So you can't use it as a normal unit. So, this beats it in that regard. But if that isn't a problem, I suggest giving that a go instead.

This still needs work btw. I was displeased with the model and decided to go without it. Couldn't even fix it properly :\
