Hm, couldn't it be a bit/ sightly more fitted at the waist ? For me it looks a bit like a block.

I think it actually fits the villager perfectly. I based the breastplate from the villagers torso. I do agree though. It looks a bit clunky.
The problem is mesh clipping. The best I can do is to cut the bottom of the breastplate off to avoid the leg clipping but it will probably still have that clunky look.

The problem is that the villager is animated and the attachment isn't. You'll have to make it larger than the torso.

The breastplate is actually bigger than the torso.
And yes, it is obviously because the villager's mesh is animated and the breastplate is not
Body armor is a pain to get right. Either they must be over dimensioned and look like a cage, or they must stop halfway down on the stomach.
