Goku

Goku from Dragon Ball Z. This is my first attempt at doing a model. Tell me what you think and be honest. I don't really care so much if you credit me but feel free to if you want because its is nice to get credit for what you have done right? If you want to put it anywhere else such as on a new site let me know just so I can go look. I'd like to know where it goes if it goes anywhere that is. XD Who knows you may all hate it.
Um rate honestly and credit goes to gotenkz for his DBZBaseUnit model which I made mine from. I did more than reskin it. The skin is free handed by me so tell me what you think.

N. Zerox

Update: Now fixed his head geoset to look better and more like Goku's head/hair. There is now another blp file included you do need it otherwise his head will have no texture. Enjoy. Hope you like this improvement.

Update 2: Okay it now only uses one texture again because I realized that I didn't need my no longer used space on my first texture. So there's a nice improvement for you. HIis face is now not as blurry as the part on the texture was enlarged and re UV mapped. His Feet have been resized and retextured His shoes and clothing ect now include highlights and shadows and more agreeing colors. His animations have also been changed so he now stands upright instead of leaning over. I don't believe there are any errors with them let me know if you find any. Hope you like it.

And Just for reference here are my previous images of the different versions (If this isn't allowed let me know and I'll remove it.):

Goku.JPG

Note: I still have old versions if you for some odd reason want them pm me. And version 3 was just a poor attempt at texture changes. So I didn't post a picture of it. If you want the pic I post it up too.

Update: Now Version 4. Textures almost completely redone to give better more vibrant colors. Hope you like it. I also beefed up his arms a little.

Update: Now Version 5. It includes a modified texture from previous versions that now includes SS area's for my SS Goku Models. So you only need 1 texture for all three. Not much of a change except it has a slightly new uv and his hair has lighter shades in it so you can see it in the camera.

pretty good for a first model. His one hip looks a little dislocated, and the hair really doesn't look much like Goku's hair.

As for the texture, it could use a little work, but looks pretty good overall.

If you fix those few things, I think it will turn out to be a pretty good model.

Hey thanks for commenting. I see what you mean by one of his hip looks dislocated. I'll fix that. As far as the hair goes. I attempted to do it but I've been having trouble making it look just right. I'll keep working on it.

What exactly do you think could be improved on my texture? I know that I don't have the little white symbol on that is on his shirt. Currently he is using one texture in which I have just mirrored the front to make both sides. Though I guess I could add a second texture and use that for it right?

And thanks for your support. Please if anyone else takes a look I'd love to hear your comments. :)

This model looks like gotenkz dbzbasemodel :/ ?

Something tells me you didn't read all of what I said... -.- Go back and read again please.

*Sigh* This model isn't completely done from scratch. I used his base model to start hence why I gave him credits even though he won't ever see it since he hasn't been here for 3 years. And he says he made his model for people to edit. But if you look closer you'll find that Its got several differences.

Also my next model I intend to do is Piccolo. I intend to do it from scratch.

Glad you like it come back soon I'm going to be making his hair look correct ect.

lol...my bro's friend would have a fit over the absurdity of this. give him an alternate form in supersayan. like the demonhunter.

Um to be honest I'm not sure how to do that yet. I haven't learned how. If you know how and would tell me I'd appriciate that and would gladly do it.

honestly? The mesh looks bad. Goku's hair is diffrent! you should really make it more like him. also the boots are badly made as for the texture
2/5 but it has potential

Yeah I was in a rush when doing his hair. I'll fix it soon. I'm going to try to improve the face to ect to make it more like him. The boots are you saying you don't like the texture on them or the shape. And do you not like the texture overall?

Sorry Just hold on guys I'll update him a lot today just wait.

I can notice the following flaws here:

- The face is very blurry, and I see a lot of empty rooms on the head textures. This can be done by redrawing the head in a better size and change the head's UV map in Vertex Modifyer.
- Very cartoony shading that doesn't blend very well. I would suggest you to check out some 2D texture tutorials at both Hiveworkshop and Wc3Campaigns, as you'll find some useful texturing and color blending tutorials there.

Wow, much better. The only thing that needs improvement now is the skin. It really lacks definition. One thing that I notice, especially on the pants, is that the darks and the midtones are too close together. Try pushing the darks a bit more.

Wait a second you can UV map with Vertex Modifier? How do you do that? As far as I knew it didn't do anything with textures at all. :hohum:
And yes I know it is kind of cartoony. I'll go try to find some tutorials as you suggest.

Alright. Glad you like the improvement. :) I'll now work on making the skin better.

Vertex modify> Files> Uv map <--- easy
ok i like it betternow but the way he stands kinda disturbs me ... he looks like such a lazy ass, while goku always walks with his chin up...
and the shape of the boots ... they are to wide.
Texture sure needs improvement! and you might want to make his wrist teamcolored.

EDIT: because i like the concept, i might want to finalize it ... but don't make me do evrything so fix the things stated above

Yeah sorry I had an old version of vertex modifier. Went and got the latest so no biggie now. Thanks. Hmm good point on his stance. I'll try to get him better animations. Just hold on. Yeah I agree the boots are to big. I thought about changing last night. But for some reason I forgot to do it. :xxd: Sorry I'll make sure to have that fixed in the next update as well. Okay I am going to try to improve his texture a lot. It seems to be the most common request. Even by the mods and so that's top priority.

Team colored wrist bands huh? I'll have to go look how to add team color. I'll go get to work immediately.

Edit: I've done a little searching around for adding team color but I'm still not quite sure how to do it. I didn't really find anything that specificalliy said how to add it. Could you tell me how or point me in the right direction. I'd like to learn how so I can do it on future models as well. Besides maybe I'd find someone who wanted to know and I could tell them if I knew.

Thanks.

Whell TC. Open up a random model that has TC. if you open the material manager and open a few materials you will see that one of those materials contains 2 layers.
1 of those will be "replaceableID1" and the other will use the model's texture. Replaceable ID will have the filtermode "Blend", always. so you see? If the model's texture is transparent and you get a blend underneath it, it willl give a red or blue ( your team color) tone :). Do you now get how to make teamcolor? Dont forget to make the Wrist alphaed out!

Pretty good i can see that you nearly
completly re textured it from Gotenks original.
The back of the neck needs retexturing it is
a completely different skin tone then everything else.
And the face is really lacking defenition im not sure if
you changed the original anim's but they are decent.
but on the spell animation right before it ends his left
foot just fly's all over the place.

Are you saying I can open a model that already has team color and just copy the 2nd layer from it to my model and say that it uses the replaceableID1 texture? With the wristbands alpha'd out?
no just make a new one with the same options ...you see, the material has nothing to do with vertex placement, thats the geoset!
so you make a new geoset and a new material, in the new geoset you put the wrists, in the material you put 2 layers: 1: normal texture that is used for the wrists 2: the texture Replaceable ID (filtermodel blend.
Assign this material to the geoset. To do this really easy just do it in magos!

Okay so the neck skin tone = bad. Got it. Yeah I wasn't sure about it. Good to know someone elses opinion. I'll fix it immediately after I get back from work. He now has new animations that I don't believe have any errors. Tell me what you think of the new ones if you would.

It looks okay,
But the thing that really bothers me is his feet, =/
Looks okay So far, keep working on it!

There you go feet are now more proper size and they are retextured. Hope you like this improvement.

Um would you happen to have a program you would suggest for making the wrist a seperate geoset, adding the two materials etc. I know what to do from magos once I have the two material layers. But not quite sure what to do to get it to that point. To redo his head. I trashed his old geoset that made up his head. How would I go about making the wrist separate. My apologies I'm still new at this. XD

TrOiA..."Bad Model"...excuse me, but, that was one of the most stupid replies i have even seen for you need to note how it's not so good, and, lemme see how you do one your first model that you publish. Hokay, the First Version...looks like 'The Creeper' from Scooby Doo except, he fell into a pool of acid. Version 2, much better, good job ;) Only flaws i see about Version 2 are:
A) His face...it seems like he looks like a weirdo alien (even though he somewhat is one) for it looks like the face of the sterotyped face of a chinese person on T.V. (no offence to chinese people but people make you look like that on T.V. all teh time), if you culd fix that, that would improve the model.
B) The hooves, i mean feet, as i just stated, his feet look like they're hooves like this:
/¯\ [side view] When they actually should look like a "L" shape from a side view.
C) His Muscles, they need more...more...3D effect to them, they're flat when they should be bulgeing out, try to fix the muscles so that they arent just apart of the texture, but that they are also apart of the model.

These things are the only things that I see are awkward about this model, otherwise, this model RULES! +REP for effort and an exceptionally EXCELLENT first model! 4.5/5

You still want the feet smaller. More L shaped like BananaHead suggest. ok.

Well now its v3 thats the current one. It has slight texture improvements. Face still needs reimprovement huh? The feet used to look a lot like hooves. But they aren't as bad now. I can make them more L shaped still if thats how you feel. Bigger muscles ok. Guess that makes sense. They do look kind of small right now don't they? Thank you for your support and your attitude towards the comment "Bad Model" it is agreed that two words is really not a viable comment.

Anyone else got any comments?

It's possible to duplicate geosets, though it will work somewhat like a scripting method. Use Notepad or Notepad++ (recommended) and open a mdl version of it (be sure to backup your old model just in case).
Then copy the first whole Geoset contents, and paste the copy below the first.
If you suceed at duplicating the geosets, then you can edit in Vertex Modifyer, where the first Body should be without the wrists and the second body should be only the wrists.

You'll probably understand more of geoset duplicating part from olofmoleman's Crystal Effect tutorial:
http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/f282/crystal-effect-7456/

Hope it will help you.

The head it look like one goku model i have seen

You've seen another Goku model somewhere? I wasn't aware that any other Dragon Ball Z(DBZ) models existed besides the Base model I started with. And even then its not really a character from DBZ thats why I wanted to go and be the first to try to make characters from DBZ it being my favorite show. May I ask for a link via pm that I could go see this other model? I'm interested to see if its any better than mine and if there are other models there too. Since mine as you can see started out in earlier stages and has since worked its way up to this. I've spent many hours the past couple days working on this and looking around at tutorials on modeling, skinning, UVing ect.

@ Dan van Ohllus Thanks for the idea on a method. I'll try to do that.

most people do it like Dan van Ohlus does! as far as i know, it's the best.
Anyway this map "Fight of characters" uses this great goku model. it kick and punches, has SS up to 3 i think and it has a spiritbomb animation!
its better then your model bu that can change! Also you might want to give it a heroglow ... then the TC wrist arnt need that much but i still suggest you do! Other then that, the face still lacks detail ... and the portrait is all messed up because of the black hair blending with the black background (sugest is using same technique as in the steamtank --> normal mpq) This will make a red background :) just take a look, the onlything you need is a new geoset, a new material and a geoset animation.

ok this model is fine if its your first one, but the shoes really need to be fixed

Edit: There now its updated. Much better texture. Right? Oh and beefed up his arms some.

Texture is much better indeed.

Should I add hero glow or not?

I say no, in case someone uses this model as a regular unit rather than hero.
People can always attach a hero glow model on him via triggers or edited aura abilities (if the model has the required attachment points of course).

I would approve the model, but I'll wait for another resource moderator's opinion about the model first.

Well thank you for your oppinion Dan. I would say though. It would be an honor to be approved by you. I really love your work. Its amazing.

Sorry but the other dbz models i have is much better quality and better animations...Same Head ?

Well if you have different STOLEN model that you would rather use. Go on ahead. No one is making you use mine. Same Head? Um no? The head of my Goku was made based of a background image where I lined up vertexs ect. Not the same head. Besides even looking at the two you can tell there different.:slp: I spent about 5 hours on my models head. And secondly until 2 days ago was it? I didn't even know that anyone had made real DBZ models. All I had known was that there was a map called DBZ tribute that had NO imported models. It used all warcraft 3 models. So I decided to be the first to make some. Course at the time I didn't realize that the DBZ tribute map I had played was really old and that there were a billion new versions today. New versions that had lots of models ect. New versions were loads of fighting over who stole the map ect. Its really kind of sad. :nw: Okay now people know a lot more about how I started with this model ect. Not sure if all that was necessary to be said but I'll end my post here so I stop rambling.

Have u never played Dbz tribute on wc3 ?

Perhaps you didn't read my post just above yours.:slp: But the I specifically said that I played DBZ tribute on Warcraft 3 but I also said that the version I played was apparently just really old and I didn't know it because 1. It had no imported models. 2. It looks nothing like the map thats called DBZ tribute which is now so highly fought over. I was told that I wasn't the first to create a DBZ model and that there were others but in maps. So I went looked around tried some. All of the DBZ tributes were basically the same except the fact that they all were said to have been made by different people and not a one was anything like the map called DBZ tribute that I had played. I also read all the fighting that was going on over them about stolen models, stolen maps, etc., etc. It really was quite pitiful. Made me feel kind of sad about joining such a world of Warcraft DBZ its not what I would have expected. Anyway you also must have not read that I redid the head/hair based on an image that I used as a background during its creation the process took about 4-5 hours I believe. I also mentioned that.

I don't know the size/dimensions or whatever its called but I am pretty sure that if you tried to geosetmerge(Is that the right term?) the head of your stolen model from DBZ tribute that they won't match up. As mine was created differently. I also would assume that your model's UV unwrap would not match mine and that if you attempted to use my models texture on it. That the other model would become a complete mess and unable to tell what it is. I made the head for my Goku model and did my own UV unwrap for it etc.

Besides if nothing else you should just be able to look at the pictures and tell that mine has progressed to that point that its at now from a previous point. Also on the picture you put up. The faces are also different.(Just another thing to point out.)

I'm sure that anyone who reads this now would know for a surety of a fact that I made my own darn head. *sigh* The ignorance of some people sometimes. :hohum:

To anyone who took this as a flame in any form. It is in no way intended to be if it was taken that way I apologize. I'm only trying to prove that I made my model not ripped it from somewhere else. By telling the history behind my model and how it was made. I hope you understand. :hohum:.

Okay on to more positive things that are actually of importance.

the face is not stolen ... look at the prgress pictures (wich i recommend you use hidden tags on em) Indeed its ready for approval. However i suggest you make his shirt more like this ... It looks better now
i change my rating from 3/5 --> 4/5

And I'm glad someone else belives me on that it wasn't stolen. This reason here is kinda why I want to stop making DBZ models because everyone is all about who stole what. So for me I haven't stolen anything I feel kinda bad I ever joined this thing. I don't like being accused of things because I always try my hardest to tell the truth and nothing but it. I don't know lying just doesn't fit well with me. Good point. I didn't think of the hidden tags. Wonderful Idea. I'll go add that now. Glad you think its ready for approval. I didn't know what people would think of my first work. I know its not the best ever but its the product of my many hours spent on it. But the time spent is not what is important but the fun I had making it and the happiness others receive from it. :cute:
Ha thats funny that picture I did run across it once. Though I didn't really get much out of it since I mostly ignored it and used my other picture. I could sure try to make it more like that. We'll see though. I'm not sure but I definitely will try. And thanks for your rating increase. Please make sure to do it on the vote thing for users.

this model is definitely a great model especially for it being your first model an all , could we still be expecting you to be making more models in the future?

Thanks I'm glad you like it. And of course. I fully intend to keep making models as making this one has brought me much joy. I really amazed my dad with this. So to keep you guys happy, him happy, and myself I'm going to keep going. Though I don't know if I'll release more DBZ models. Maybe... I'll at least finish my Piccolo Model I started.

I've watched this thread, and your progress and you've done an exceptional job in your improvements.

The only part that is lacking now, to me, is the texture. Specifically the shoulders and upper chest. The arms are better and the feet are much better.

Very nice improvements. 4/5 from me.

Well thank you for hanging around and watching me improve. I'm trying to learn all I can and do my best. :cute: Well I did improve the texture a lot from the first one. But I do think you are correct in the fact that they shoulders/chest could be improved. I'm planning on trying to go with something like :fp:this.

I hope you stick around some more and like future updates I do. Since I do intend to make the upper torso more detailed/like Goku's. :ap:
