Goblin Missile Droid V.231

''Long ago, in a distant land, A goblin whose name has since been forgotten by history's writing hand, encapsulated his brain into a jar, seeking immortality, and to instill his terrible reign he created endless armies of droids, to destroy all life.

without much aid from the other races, it was up to ''Pale Fin'' riding his trust worthy dinosaurian steed, wielding his magic trident and the other mur'locs to stop him, and his evil machines, before it was too late.''

ok enough joking around lol. story of this model in case you care, This model was started officially in early 2014 during the creation of a since abandoned map called ''OMFG When Flood Attacks'' which was a halo themed/star wars themed homage to a starcraft 1 map made by a close real life friend of mine called ''OMFG When Bears Attack!!!'' which was basically a few marines holding back unlimited spawns of ursadons until you inevitably died. the idea was to have star wars themed heroes fighting halo themed enemies (the flood) until you inevitably died.

any ways, one of the heroes on that map was supposed to use Olofmolemans model instead of mine, but I wanted more animations, and I started adding more stuff onto his model until it no longer resembled the star wars counter part.

I put it down for a bit then picked it up again when the steam punk contest #26 of 2014's theme was officially chosen, but thought a model based off Olofmoleman's work would probably not be admissible in the contest, and dropped it in favor of the goblin terror drone instead (based from scratch off the goblin land mine). which was also never finished.

any ways, It was so close to completion I figured I might as well release it after some touch ups for functionality reasons, its not as fancy as some of my other work, or as original, but some one might like to have it.

how to use:

this model comes with 10 animations

Walk
Stand
Attack Spell
Death
Decay
Walk Alternate
Stand Alternate
Attack Spell Alternate
Death Alternate
Decay Alternate

use the alternate animations tag to un-lock the second version that has double the rockets more spikey armor and different treads on the wheels, with an additional under-belly spinning triple bladed circular saw. excellent for running over mur'locs.

credits to olofmoleman for the original work, I even contacted him upon deviant art to ask him for permission which he granted, so that was extra cool, thanks olofmoleman.

I know death and death alternate are boring, I had hoped to implement particles my self, but for lazy-ness reasons I figured you guys could instead add the explosion effects you guys would want, via reverse engineering the meat wagons plague cloud ability, so I decided to upload it as is.

I really like this model and I really love how you adapted olof's work there, but I think the amount of polygons is a bit too high and the animations could be a bit less 'wooden'. Other than that, very cool. Works in-game.

well I had Olofmolemans permission to edit the model in the first place, so I thought that was cool, but yea, I was told it was not allowed in the contest by moderators -- so yep. I didn't really know the rules of contests at the time, it was my first attempt to join one. didn't stop me from trying to make Olofmoleman's model more steam punk. not at first any way. Olofmoleman based his original model on the infernal contraption.

wheels too far apart? well I don't know if I agree with that, though I did shrink them and shove them closer together compared to the original.

its goblin textures, so that's how you can tell!

Very cool edit of the base model Hail Fire Droid by Olofmoleman!!!
Although the shape is clearly reminiscent of the base model, there's a lot of very neat added material in this modified version.

If @kellym0 could manage to mimic the gentle rocking of the main body that the base model has during Walk, imo it would definitely benefit the already nice looks of this drone model here. Nothing wrong with the current walk cycles though, they're already fine!

Sorry, I wasn't quite clear; it's not so much that you used something that someone else made ("original work"), but more that, like nearly every single Contest ever, you can't submit stuff that was started on before the Contest began ("original work"); otherwise what stops people from just submitting stuff they made from years earlier into a Contest? We all have to 'start from scratch', generally.

But anyway, just clearing up a pedantic little point. Carry on!

I had to start alot of animations from scratch because of the wobble in the wheels, so I used animations to control the angle of the wheels, instead of the mesh. its why when its set to ''un-animated'' the wheels become alot less angled, because it was easier to make rounder wheels when they where not slanted.

I purposely removed the wobble because I didnt like it lol

thank you misha, im glad you think its groovy, the goblin ricketyness I thought I had properly implemented was the vibrating exhaust pipes on each wheel. paint jobs harder, but every thing ''red'' is team color even the eye laser lights

oh yeah it is a really nice model :3

as for goblin ricketyness, well its really whether or not you think bone-splint-like connections on limb pieces are good detail or not, like if they just couldn't weld it, but still have stuck to the idea, tied it as strong as they could, but still looking like its going to fall apart x3 Or sparking as heck in some areas, or even more, for the heck of it, looking like its going to explode any second. :xxd: that's goblin ricketyness

and its good on the paintjob anyway :b
