Inside this game a plot slowly unfolds around certain gems that carry a great power. A power that has to be kept safe, in your hands.



Introduction

Gems of Unification (GoU) is Role Playing Game (RPG) which can (and should) be played in multiplayer. I've worked quite a lot on this map and hope you'll enjoy it.

This map is currently still in heavy development, but playable. Of the three acts the first two are largely done. Expect this map to be updated a lot over the coming months.

If you find any bugs or have suggestions to the map don't hesitate to contact me by posting in this thread. Together we can create a new epic map!

One hero, all classes!

Pick up your weapon of choice, learn your own spells and do the quests you like. Your choices determine your class, allowing a whole new kind of customization! So will picking up a bow for instance make your hero a ranged damage dealer since bows provide a ranged attack and a damage bonus. Together with the ability to pick up any spell you like (though there is a maximum of spells you can pick) you can create your own class! Any combination is possible!​

FAQ

What is this game about? What does RPG mean?
RPG stands for Role Playing Game, which in this context means you play a character that explores the world of Gems of Unification. You're pretty free to choose which kind of character you want to be.

In which aspects does this game differ from other RPG's, like Gaia's Retaliation?
I'll be honest, in a lot of aspects it is the same, it's just fresh, new content. In what aspects it differs are these; class customization, you don't pick a pre-made class with certain abilities but you're free to choose how you want your character to be.

The game crashes!
Make sure you have texture quality on highest, else the game can crash. Next to that, suggested resolution screen is 1920x1080. Small resolution and graphic can broke game or improperly display data. If the game still crashes after trying this try running Warcraft III in openGL by adding -opengl to your startup exe.

Help, I can't save in singleplayer! Why is this?!
In order to prevent people from cheating their character up I've disabled saving in singleplayer.

My save code doesn't work.
Make sure you're using the same playername you used while you saved your character.

Restore my code!!
I won't sorry, you'll have to level up again.

I've noticed a serious bug, where can I report this?

AWESOME! i just played 15min in singleplayer and i loooove it! the only thing i was confuesed bout in the beginning was that its possible to walk through the trees, so there is no definite path to go. but it seems to be more realistic this way =) veeery nice work!!! approve it dudes!! please continue working!!

theres a huge bug on quests, when you dont follow the correct order of people to talk to, for example, when you dont talk to your mom, and just talked directly to doctor.

it happens when you load, because you dont start at the starting point, but on another place

Could you be a little bit more specific on the bug? When did it happen, with which spell?

theres a huge bug on quests, when you dont follow the correct order of people to talk to, for example, when you dont talk to your mom, and just talked directly to doctor.

it happens when you load, because you dont start at the starting point, but on another place

Quests aren't saved with your character; when you load your character all quests are reset. This might sound like a negative feature but it allows you to regain all that xp, gold and skill points from quests.

In addition to that; yes some quests are chained with eachother but I've created the quests in such a way that when you enter a village you start on all new chains (or can jump into one).

the heal spell doesnt work, bought it from doctor, then tried to use in battle, my hands glow, but no heal happened. on the other hand, the rejuv spell works fine

following what i said about quests, i ended up having an infinity reward bug because i skipped the first part of accepting the main mom quest. i spawned to the night elf village when i load then walked back to the doctor and the main quest was updated but it was not in the quests menu, just updated, then i go back to my house, the bandits were there, mom was already kidnapped, when its just my first time to visit there after loading

so the next part was to ask the inn keeper, i asked him then cilck the accept quest button, got 100 xp as reward, press the button again and got 100 xp, and i can do this infinitely. so thats the bug.

also the sister quest doesnt appear anymore, i think its connected to the bug i just mentioned, and the fact that i talked to the sister in night elf village before the one in bridgewater

Okay, that isn't suppose to happen :p

Your hero skill points you mean? That's not intended, but I might enable that in the future.

i havent played much orpgs so i cant compare this to them, but i like this. suits me just fine.

3- The threat system needs some work, our tank couldn't get the aggro from me even thought he had first 2 tanking abilitys and used taunt all the time.If there is more than 3 enemys it gets really hard for tank to hold aggro since taunt doesn't really generate any threat points(even if its doing that , its really low) its just keeping the aggro for a couple seconds. I dont know if there are any aoe tanking abilitys (because we were only at the second city) but you kinda need to make them reachable earlier in the game , so tank can have more purpose instead just right clicking and loosing the aggro.
Other than that really nice map , i was really bored of Gaias so its feels good to have somethnig new like it:p

I'll look into this, should work though when I look at the code. Will do some testing.

You're not the first one saying this; I'll increase aggro generation for tanks.
There are some AoE aggro abilities in the map (Initimidation Shout & Shield Pound) but like you said, they're not available early on.

Other than that really nice map , i was really bored of Gaias so its feels good to have somethnig new like it:p

gg good stuff

this orpg is well done so far. i really like the terrain and the questsystem, all the stuff arounf there :D

there really should be the possibility to reset the attribute points since there is the way to change to every class and unlearn skills...

but some errors are still existing -.-
e.g.
- sometimes the pet (fox/hawk) wont get teleported through the dungeon circle in the goldmines
- people gets disconnected randomly after they picked their birthsign
(i got this disconnections in every game i played with my mates. we were able to go on playing when just the host picked the birthsign and the others passed it)
- there will come the point, where people cant take the reward for their done quests (i think this is the same thing like with birthsigns - just the host can do it). it has been the quest with the recruitment (kill 20 trolls) if i remember right. all the other quests were bugged then too.
- some savecodes done in this status (no rewards given) dont work or are bugged (like there is 1 spell missing etc.)
- why can i just learn 9 spells although there are 11 slots ?

i hope this bugs will be fixed in the next versions..
i cant wait any longer to see the 3rd area :D

There can be a little delay (a few secs) for your pet to teleport with you.

This sounds dire, I'm already looking into it but can't see any typo's in the code so far. I'm able to multiplayer test this weekend, see what that brings up. Thanks for reporting!

Currently because of some game mechanics, next to that I've kept a few slots open for future implementations. Might increase the cap though.

i hope this bugs will be fixed in the next versions..

I just tested it with my bro. I played a tanky warrior and he was a caster.

I can see that a lot of effort has been put into this rpg map but it just didn't feel that epic to me atleast, not after playing Gaia's or SotP.

Also there are some minor flaws with the quests.
Dungeons were nice, not mention the terrain which was beautiful altough I saw some strange graphical lighting glitches in dark areas.

It's a still must play map for every rpg fan out there. Can't wait for new content!

I just tested it with my bro. I played a tanky warrior and he was a caster.

I can see that a lot of effort has been put into this rpg map but it just didn't feel that epic to me atleast, not after playing Gaia's or SotP.
Thanks, it did take some effort. I'm still improving and trying to make it better.

Also there are some minor flaws with the quests.
Could you tell me what bugged or is flawed?

Dungeons were nice, not mention the terrain which was beautiful altough I saw some strange graphical lighting glitches in dark areas.
Noticed this myself too, don't really know how to fix it, so if anyone knows, I'm happy to hear.

It's a still must play map for every rpg fan out there. Can't wait for new content!

For those intressed; I'll update this map this weekend (or monday). Update will include herbalism & weapon improvement. Next to that a lot of fixes and things that will make it easier to jump into quest chains (like the second quest hub).

Quite an update, all issues should be fixed. Additional content has been added, so go check it out! :)

  • Herbalism has been added, you can now gather berries from bushes and convert them into potions, more to be added in the future
  • Improve Items has been added, you can now (for a fee) improve your items, increasing their stats
  • All desync issues should now be solved, the problem was found and fixed
  • Three new abilities have been added, they drop off dungeon 1 bosses or dungeon 2 trash creeps
  • Unlearn Skills has been added, you can now reset (for a free) all skill points of your hero
  • A Sign From the Stars / Foreign Market can now both be started without having completed their pre-quests

  • An additional path has been made through some trees down the hero's home house

Cant hold a sword and shield

I'm Granis Darkhammer, and I picked up a "shiv" weapon.

Then I went to buy a shield. And it said "you're already using both your arms".

Why wont it let me hold both??

That shiv looks just like a normal sword.

Is it 2 handed weapon?

It's like the tooltip states an offhand weapon, if you have a main hand weapon with it you can dual wield.

Combinations are
- Main hand + Off hand
- Main hand + Shield
- Main hand + Misc

Sorry if its confusing, I might change it so offhand can be used as main hand.

hey man! when do u think that all of the terrain will be playable? fixing bugs rocks, but i cant wait to play all of this great map as sooooon as possible yyeeeeeha =) bless

Single Player

Is it possible to go through this map in single player?

I tried, but certain quests, like the bandit lord, and the big wolf, seem impossible to do in single player.

This is exactly the same problem that Gaias had.

Can you not simply decrease the difficulty level for single player??

Thanks! :) I'm working on it. I'm a bit busy though but I'll do my best to get Act III ready. At the moment I'm still focused on bug fixing and improving Act I and II (like the bosses for instance).

True, I agree. This game is ment to play in multiplayer. It's not impossible to get to higher levels in Singleplayer, just takes more time ;)

Wooden staff (like all staves) are two-handed.


EDIT: found the two bow bug, it's quite big so I'll hot fix this tonight or tomorrow.

Here are some things I found out:

1. When you load your code, it doesnt show the birthsign but the effects are still there. You still cant get a new birthsign cuz you already have.

2. The quest of Illyana (the dryad) can be claimed many times, and its abusive, you can get a lot of xp, gold and skill points.

3. I think the heal of the shamans of the centaurs and tauren are too strong, its almost half of the outrunners and warriors.

4. When I load my code, I couldnt join the taurens, I can only join the centaurs. Im not sure if its because I chose centaurs the first time.

5. Casters get so much aggro, even if they just heal.

my load code is bugged ... when i loaded it didnt loaded the spells of the spellbook O.O

Awesome map. I played it on single player (LAN), and here is what I have to say:

Review

(-) The rest system is good, can't be used during combat.
(-) Cool terrain, it makes the atmosphere smooth and gives players a good time playing.
(-) The stat system you used was good, there would be no pure-agi dudes, but idk if this would stop pure-int and pure-str guys, because the things their stats give are already decent. Perhaps mix in different attributes like str to be beneficial to int also, because I only find the additional hp nice for an int hero. The extra crit damage and +damage isn't really that needed imo, since they'll focus more on int and not on str/agi.
(-) Add a picture of some sort, the one where you'll see when you create a game or join a game, the minimap. It only shows a "?" sign in it.
() There are some things you need to fix like Rest, letter R isn't colored yellow, and View Stats could have a hotkey V.
(-) Add more commands to the game like roll, clear, etc.
(-) Nuke some skills. Some skills are overpowered, like the Deadly Poison skill. Maybe you could decrease it's chance to proc, 'cuz I was able to solo very easily with that skill.
(-) Perhaps add a tip at the start of the game when playing in single player that you can't save. If I didn't try saving at level 4, then I would have went straight, then save when I'm done, then would've raged. Or perhaps enable saving on LAN, because not all guys are able to go online and play.
I love the map, but sad to say, I would not be able to play it that much because of not being able to save on LAN, because my internet is crap, and I get dc'ed every single game I play. 5/5 and subscribed.

I think mage-classes are too strong in this game. Offensive spells coupled with healing and the shield spell and they're pretty much good to solo the whole game. One factor that I see is the low mana cost. Another is fast CD of firebolt and heal. Compared to warrior/hitter types, mages at level 30+ can cast 100+ dmg spells every 2 secs and can heal just as much. Maybe make warrior/hitter items stronger?

Couple of things I noticed, dunno if I'm the only one though.
Played the game (great map BTW, I love it!), saved, left. Day after, played again, loaded, and:
1.- I had no skills on my character. When opening the skillbook, it's just empty. So, I went on and tried to buy those skills again. "You already have that skill" message appeared. Sold all my skills, and could buy them again.
2.- Found Gwendolyn, gave me the quest to get a birthmark, went to the birthmarks placem tried to get one. "You already have a birthmark" message appeared. Hence, I couldn't finish that quest, and I can't have a birthsign, cause I supposedly already have one. Of course, I don't.
3.- "The bandit hideout quest" cannot be finished. I got stuck on the "slay your mother" part, I've killed her many times now. Nothing happened. another unfinishable quest.

One thing; what do you exactly mean by playing in LAN? Because the game only checks if there is more than 1 player, else saving is disabled.

I'll look into it, haven't rebalanced stuff yet. I agree with you that because healing/damaging spells share the same stat that kind of "classes" might get overpowered.

I just noticed.
1 After getting my recruit rank, and doing one of the quests available there, all bows became melee and lost the 450 range, but I dunno what the exact trigger for this issue is.
2 Amethyst cleansing quest from the archivist can be done several times (killed the 3 ghosts over 5 times now, yet no counter appears) and when finishing the quest, archivist keeps the question mark on his head, and drops another amethyst, I have at least 4 on the ground there. "How little we know" quest cannot be finished. (at least for player 1, player 2 has it completed already)
3 Troll Huts destroying quest does not work for player 2. Two players on the game. Only player one (red) gets the huts destroyed counter updated each time, and sees the huts actually burning. player 2 cannot complete the quest and does not see the destroyed hut animation.
4 saved when reaching windfell. continued. finished aact two (sort of, amethyst never got cleansed). tried to save again, and nothing happened. >.< save didnt work. player 2 could save with no issues. Lost some leveling and some apaprently good items :(
