Formation Defence Beta 0.9

A classic tower defence style map with a heavy emphasis on strategy. Players must defend two lanes from thirty waves of enemies using mercenaries, leaders, towers, blacksmiths, fletchers, and more.

One laneway will have a mix of allied refugees fleeing for the safety your walls can provide and your typical monsters. There are a number of towers available for simply killing the enemies, like any good tower defense, but what about the refugees? This map adds in some interesting new TD options such as healing towers, speed boosters, and even more specialized units, like towers that can heal and attack simultaneously.

On the other lane, things get a little more interesting and stray from the typical TD layout. Each player can have up to twenty-eight units and a leader. These twenty-eight units can be any combination of units the user feel suits them best. Longbowmen, Footmen, Axemen, Militia, Servants, Rock Thrower, Archers, Skirmishers, Cavaliers, Knights, Mounts, and Archmages are just the beginning of your options. Eachhave additional research available for them and can be combined with any of the thirteen different leaders to maximum effectiveness.

There's no reason to use the same strategy twice. Although this game works with a solo system (each player has their own lives and area), but different mercenaries become available depending on your other players' leader choices.

Feel free to give it a try and leave feedback. This game is still very much in beta mode. I have tested it online many times, but I'm sure there are still bugs to be found.

Blacksmiths enable more research. For instance, you can't get militia without 1 blacksmith and you need 4 blacksmiths for Knights. Nearly every unit has a blacksmith requirement. They also increase the damage of anybody wielding metal weaponry
(including arrows).

Fletchers are the same. They enable archer upgrades and improve the range of most long-range fighters.

Noted ^.

It's all a matter of strategy. I'll post out a couple here...

1) Play as the humans and get a mixture of longbowmen and pikemen
2) Get a Ballista to start the game and put a fire or water enchantment on it
3) Play as the Dwarves -_-. They are a balanced team, but they are designed to be very simple for beginners. Their general rule of thumb is 'upgrade = good', whereas most teams have to find a nice balance of units.

I liked the idea of defending a city and drafting the survivors into the army. And I liked the system for drafting your soldiers even more, though I feel the formation should reset after every wave.
Also the races seem to be made quite well.

The problem for me was, that there was too much going on at the same time. How should I evaluate if I need more towers (and which ones) and micro abilities at the same time. Also waves spawn way too fast to read tooltips.
To improve this I would like you to seperate survivor and attacker waves, so I can concentrate on one thing at a time.

Another strange mechanic is, that your tech-buildings are not shooting towers. Should I build them, tech and destroy them again as fast as possible or how is this ment to be played ?

Very fun and unique, fairly difficult. It could stand to be slowed down and paced out a bit, but it's still pretty great regardless.
