FlightSim Concept

This bundle is marked as useful / simple. Simplicity is bliss, low effort and/or may contain minor bugs.
This is a concept of a 3-dimensional Flight Simulator for warcraft.

Models are made by Illidan(Evil)X.

This is the second version uploaded. It supports better physics and two new planes: Me109 and a badge bomber.

Be warned: Controlling the planes and helicopters is quite difficult, as its meant as a simulator, not as an arcade game. Please do not let this fact affect your rating.

Interesting... Did you use A and D before? For me the helicopter is even easier to control ^^

in which direction do you loose control? parallel to the rotor (around z-axis)? then it should be A and D: Once you have clicked on of the buttons, you have to click the other direction to return the back rotor to original speed, because with abilities i cant detect keys which are pressed for a longer period of time.

In any other case, i dont know what it could be

And Septimus, could you approve the map? I mean, this isnt a complete game, but should be interesting for most players.

lol this is interesting, in future try to make the controls more easy, hey DredLord2 they maybe realistic but for noobs its almost imposible and the furst impresion is most valuble, if in the first time a noob plays it with friends and says everyone hey guys this game sucks, i cant fly this shit lets leave it woud suck, because youve worked so much for this and a fucker ruins it
oh and I give 4/5 because youv put a lot of time in this game and its original but Ive seen some other games exactly like this so so much people will say hey thats one of those games where you fly stuff, dont look at it its evil, lets play something else

ehm... first, this is a flight simulator, not an arcade game... you know the difference? Yes, a flight simulator is about to fly around, keep the plane in the air, get off the ground, land, and so on... An arcade game doesnt care about physics or realism, it just wants to get the most fun out of it - my aim was a flight simulator, and its not aimed to become popular on the internet
you have seen some other games exactly like this? in warcraft? could you please give me a single example? only one? i doubt there is one... i myself made combat zone, but hat has nothing to do with this map... combat zone was arcade, this is a simulator... and even then, combat zone was the most realistic flight engine for warcraft afaik, so i doubt there is a map comparable to this one, sorry...

btw its contradictory if you say that its original but you have seen other games exactly like this... (still curious about an example)

other than that... actually i went a few steps towards a simulator, and i wanted to make it more realistic now... however, im not yet sure about it, any opinions? imho its senseless to create an arcade flight game for warcraft, as there are better games than warcraft doing exactly the same, but without that annoying delay... its only playable via hamachi or single player, and as Jass is a very slow programming language, it wont be able to support many players, so all in all a flight simulator seems to be more fitting... besides that its way more interesting, you can find arcade games anywhere, and a real simulation between all those warcraft 5-minute-maps would be something special

i would like to see what it would look like when it is complete :D

maybe then there can be modes where you can play pvp and fight vs each other or pve where you get quests to fight vs AI as a team, or drop some bombs on something

This is a VERY origianal game and very flexible as well

furst of all, maybe I havent wrote that the way it should be
I played many times your game and aways it just was a little too hard
I just had a tought that maybe you can change it a bit like maiking it a little more easyer :con: but that was just a sugestion
that was all, but its your game if you dont want it to be famous ok with me, just make it more horible and it wont be famous
oh and if to drive a plane or a helicopter is so hard then thanks for saving my life, better if I only go by car

maybe i will add an optional control-helper bot or something like that, which takes over most of the things you would have to do manually, however, that is performance-costly, so probably it will reduce the maximum player amount even a bit more... and for playing alone, its more interesting to fly "a real plane"

different from endless killing, yes... this encourages me to keep it realistic and not in that arcade-way.

This is a really good map, the physics are very good and well implemented in warcraft.
The type and category are missing (misc/modern warfare for category, template/misc for the type?)
I thought the chopper was easier than the normal plane, but well... that's my experience ^^
The stunt plane/fighter jet (the small plane) is my favourite of course ^^
I really need to buy a Qwerty keyboard, though, since AZERTY sucks.

The new version has been greatly improved, adding a gravity-system (which will make sure the plane doesn't stay in the air if you don't hit the up-key) and the difference in planes is outstanding (I didn't even thought of that).
If possible, you might want to add a runway where you can take off/land.

When a plane crashes, it bounces back up and spins like it's gone crazy, I don't know if that would happen in real life though ;/ (if it was invulnerable, that is... otherwise it would break, of course).
The chopper

Because it isn't meant to be a game, the terrain and gameplay don't have to be polished.
I can only praise this map for the difficult physics/math which allow a near-perfect flight simulator.

The only thing I can actually mention is that it is near useless, since the controls are too hard for a normal game, but I still enjoy just flying with your system, though.

thats wrong. the main change is that any controls regarding the angular velocity / orientation of the plane, where done with a simple if arrow key pressed then accelerate rotation...
Now the rotation is caused by control surfaces. your arrow key will just change the angle of the wing by about 10 degrees, causing a different air flow on the seperate wings, which then results in a rotation
another change is coming with it, rotation friction is completely removed, the rotational friction now only is done via the friction surfaces (because on a rotating object, points far from the center are faster than those near the center, and then wings generate more friction and the forces applied far away from the center encounter the objects rotation)
so all in all, this version removed the last tricks which werent calculated with the physics approximation i use: it assumes flat surfaces which do not create any vortexes nor do they affect the air flow on other surfaces on that object or relative to the ground - means no wing in ground effect (more uplift when near the ground, because the air is compressed between ground and wing and cannot evade downwards) and no reduced friction for objects moving directly behind a big object

yes that could definately be interesting, however, it would require the planes to have wheels with low ground friction in one direction + causing the wings to point upwards when standing on the ground... this is still to be done (along with lift in water, perhaps ships, maybe wind, ground vehicles and stuff^^)

i dont know either, but i assume it would look at least similiar... and very likely it would act like in my simulation, if i could set up the correct inertia values.. currently those are just estimated from expected flight characteristics (feeling + comparison to videos)
