Fish

I had a fish-off with Misha spontaniously and figured I'd make a fish. I basically made a cartoony Piranha.
Also, for comparison, this is Misha's entry in our little challenge: cutefeesh

Enjoy, guys. I've done my best. Next up will be an undead version of this fish. Feel free to tell us which one you think won among us. The reward will be bragging rights.

Please don't forget to credit me when you use it. Also, feel free to tell me if you'll use my model because it's very encouraging and it could probably make more of these spontanious models, made because fun challenges.

Fish (Model)

A bit high poly, but it looks great.
1048 polies, the Naga Royal Guard is at 721 polies. That's still pretty much the level of an average ingame model. Models at the level of an ingame model is regarded as fairly low-poly.

Yeah, but you can't really compare them, the royal guard is meant to be a massive sea monster risen from the unfathomable depths, while this is... a fish. Which is a critter. If anything, you should compare it to the skink, which has 220 polies.

That being said, i love this unit. Amazing use of ingame textres, it has a great cartoony feel to it and the eyes are just perfect. Using it as a form of oversized piranha could justify the level of detail.

It's tiny ingame though. I scaled it down by 50% in its animations. So if people want a larger version, they can either make some changes to the actual model or just scale it up ingame.
Whichever works best for you guys. Also, currently making a skeletal fish version of this, the polies on that will probably be more than this one.

Rather than a critter, this is a creep. It has attack animations. But yes, I get your point.

(Dang, a Challenge? We don't have enough of those; it's a shame you guys didn't take a few more steps & make it official; would've been cool to populate the Challenge Forum. : P)

I'm gonna say, I really like this model (perhaps better than Misha's); his was more creative, but yours fits more in-game (textures & such) & is just really 'basic', the good kind. I kinda feel like the fin texture clashes with the shark-skin (Sea Giant?) texture, but aside from that, it's great.

That is, aside from the polies. I never look at polies; usually don't even notice them until someone points them out. However, if we're talking polies & justifying ourselves, I just have to say that comparing this dude to the Naga Royal Guard is... ill-advised. 1048 polies to make a (admittedly cool) dinky little fish Critter Creep, compared to only 721 for a massive "T3-esque" warrior melee snake-man for the Naga race... That's a 45% increase in polies, for what amounts to a tenth of the size & a fifth of the animations... Ah dannae, just seems incredibly profligate.

I need to try having another go at wrapping my feesh with ingame textures.. I just can't find the one that looks good
