Firelord Bossfight v1.9

Reactions: Zealon

Not for the weak.

If you can't work in a team, don't even try :)

I've been starting to get sick of RPG's where the bosses are just creeps, scaled up to about 5x and given uber stats, so i decided I'd have a go at making some bossfights of my own. This is the best one so far.

How to play:

It's pretty simple. You pick a hero each, and fight against the boss, a Firelord. The boss can be computer controlled, but it's funner if he's a person. The game restarts at the end of the round.

Features:

The map features balanced heroes, challenging game-play, and a lot of little systems to make it less irritating. Simple as it is, its not something many people bother to do.

Tips:

To win you need a full, balanced team, with at least 1 healer and tank.

You can press the escape button before a round starts, to increase the bosses level, in
the rare event that he is too easy for you.

Get to know your abilities and hotkeys. Quick reactions are necessary for survival.

Walk into the lava. I dare you.

If you have any suggestions, or find some bugs, please let my know via PM or this thread.
Enjoy the map!

Can someone give me a review?

Changelog:

Version 1.9 - Stable version. (I hope)
Version 1.8 - Bug fixing. The fun never ends.
Version 1.7 - Witch doctor and Berserker. Updated loading screen. Bug fixing, more commands, boss can be a player and vice versa. Lets revive this map!
Version 1.6 - nerfed infernal. Other balancing, updated the terrain. Increased players to 6.
Version 1.5 - gave boss the infernal ability. Balances and bug fixes all round.
Version 1.4 - Balancing, Changed terrain, replaced abilties, added a new attack to boss. When he is <= 40% hp there are periodic flame strikes in the map. This was a fairly big update, so I wouldn't mind some feedback.
Version 1.3 - Balancing
Version 1.2 - Replaced blink with Shift. Shortened commands
Version 1.1 - Fixed up druid summons, added all of the testing commands.

Well it isn't made for single player so it is hard :xxd:

But why not to create single mode so new users/players can try map, learn about bosses and heroes?

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Thanks Black knight, i fixed the druids summons up.

Demigod, i personally find it easy :/ It's all about how well you work with your team. Don't rate it down because it's too hard for you :/

Kobas, Theres no point for a single player mode, but I'll put in a mode just for getting to know the controls. Also, I love your signature :D

sugestion

1. More players (more attackers and a minion player)
2. Minion player. Attackers need to go thru boss lair before facing him. Killing minions = gold = shop before boss.
3. Spells like target-area fire ball, vulcano, meteor. Use your imagination.

BUG When doing flames chaneling and <40% boss disappears.

Originality: While there are quite a few boss fights, i don't see how this one differs. Most commonly known heroes in a boss fight are used along with spells that borders on boss fight cliches. The restart after the boss fight is a nice touch though.

Balancing: In my opinion the ''average'' player will find this to be extremely hard. Most maps are so balanced that you don't need pros only. This is a common mistake specifically in boss fight maps.

Terrain: The terrain is about as good as it gets in this category. Some more tile variations around the middle might be nice and perhaps some corpses or something to, not just a spam of rocks at the edges. The surrounding lava looks good though.

Lag: Played this with full house and did not experience any lag what-so-ever. Quickly went through the triggers as well and looks like leaks are cleared up.

Bugs: Non that I or my team could find

Initial Impression: The map description at hive could do with some changes. Screen shots will be a nice touch. Also the map could do with a custom preview and\or loading screen to make it more appealing.

Originality: 13\30 (just another boss-fight)
Balancing: 13\30 (not exactly intermediate-friendly)
Fun factor: 6\10 (fun for pro players, repetition is a concern.)
Terrain: 7\10 (could do with some "evil" changes.)
Lag: 10\10 (no complains with lag)
Description 3\5 (average presentation)
Initial Impression: 3\5 (needs more eye candy)
*Extra points*
~ the map is small (+2)
~ restart function (+3)

Final Rating: 60\100 [3/5] {Useful}

Final Comment: A little more original implementations and polishing and could become a fun map. Repetitive maybe but fun the first time.

thanks a lot for the review forsaken  just a few things...

I've never terrained dungeon before and I never want to again. Could someone point me to a decent tutorial..?

I designed this map to be fun, not to be original. I've never played a bossfight of decent quality before. If you know some good ones, I'd love to play them

Your criticism on the balancing is fair, but I test this and it doesn't take people long to pick up on the basics. It ends up being quite fairly balanced. I recently modified it to have up to 6 people anyway. I'll release that update when I fix the terraining...

I could probably use some Ideas to get rid of the repetition. But personally I don't find it repetitive :p

Quellquun, I do a fair bit of beta testing on Lordaeron. You can add me on there if you want.

Hmmm I couldn't find one atm, just try more tile variation and maybe some dungeon trees.

Yeah but I believe that every map should have at least 1 thing that others don't to make it unique. I played an awesome boss fight before but I can't remember the name :'(. It was several bosses actually, maybe you should try that :).

Yeah i didn't have a problem either, but i hosted it 3 times and every time at least 2 people nerd raged and quit. It's important for a map to be user-friendly. Maybe you should add difficulties at the start like 'noob' 'easy' 'normal' 'hard' etc.

I think if you add more heroes it could lessen the repetition.

Oh, I might just succumb to the constant request for more heroes. Have it your way.

I don't think trees would look that great in a fire cave. I hope I improved the terrain anyway.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Now I have a bit to work with :D

EDIT: you know whats unique about this map? being able to play as the boss. And also all of the systems I put in. have you ever played dota, and wished it had an anti agro system? I sure have.

Sooo. :con:I didn't find more bugs but I think infernal has so big dmg.
It would be fun if there were more skills. Make skill which opens next window to more skills. Better is to make more low hp/dmg minions than a bit imba infernal but map is new so it will change so much.
Terrain: rocks, hills, holes, lave, maybe dark monoliths.
Heroes: engineer, spellbreaker.
There are still lots of ideas and thoughts.
