Fallen Hope - CtD

This bundle is marked as high quality. It exceeds standards and is highly desirable.
Do you hear me?

The year is 25 of the Lotharian Calendar, four years before the Crimson Dawn and the fall of New Avalon. High General Brigitte Abbendis leads the Scarlet Crusade's charge across the Plaguelands, leaving her daughter Lynnia as a ward of Lord Valdelmar, Duke of Tyr's Hand. But corruption lurks within as well as without, and on a bitter autumn evening, Scarlet Commander Marjhan and the High Wizard Arellas are called upon to join the High Abbot Landgren in a mission most secret and most dire...

Fallen Hero is a standalone Chasing the Dawn RPG-style mission that can be played solo or with a fellow Crusader, featuring the talents of many regular Chasing the Dawn cast members, as well as new characters. Brave the ancient crypts of Tyr's Hand, battle heroes of legend and dark champions alike, and claim victory for the Crusade!

will need to pick between the campaign and co-op tag, they are rather exclusive in the type of map they belong to, a campaign gets dropped in the campaign folder and would be your normal multi map playthrough to go through its story, if this is a singular map then the co-op tag would suit it, even if you plan on having many sequal maps to it

unless its in a single bundle and works in the custom campaign section of wc3, the campaign tag is incorrectly used here

well thats an actual campaign you can tell just by the file type, this is just a standalone map, it may be associated, but its not a campaign

moderator will already have an issue with it since it violates map submission rules #10

the campaign tag to this specific file is not relevant, i dont see any issues with any of the other tags

This is a standalone prequel map to Chasing the Dawn. It features some of the same characters and helps set up some of the plotline of Part II. Part II itself is still in development, though where it goes from here remains to be seen, as I have some serious qualms about the new EULA. I'll hopefully be able to announce what I'm doing about Part II one way or another in the next week or so!

I disagree with your assessment, DrakPanda, and will await word from an actual moderator before making edits, as previously stated. However, thank you for your concern.

Man if Blizzard starts killing content with this level of quality because of their Reforged shenanigans, hiveworkshop is basically done.

Is there spoilers among in the prequel for chapter 2?

It doesn't spoil anything, no. It does, however, set up a plot point and a character that play a big part in Abbendis's arc in Part II.

Releasing an update today, v.1.01b, correcting mostly bugs regarding the final boss fight. I've also become aware just generally about model and environment issues caused by the Reforged patch. It is highly recommended to play this on Classic graphics, but there are issues involving SFX and lighting that are still broken in Classic (for instance, the spell animation of the Gravetender).

I'm downloading it now, but let me say this, I love me an RPG-Map, but adding the "Campaign" tag to it I find misleading. To my understanding the RPG-Mapsters of Warcraft 3 are pursuing a way different style then the Campaign-Crafters. Both have their own distinct elements, with RPG-Mapsters having a slight edge, because technically one could make multiple RPG-Maps and string them together into a Campaign (Rexxar-Style), but this here is clearly not that case.

So, please Call it (co-op) RPG for now, not campaign ^^'

I've given the map a try and I have to say that I've enjoyed it. It can be played by a single person, it will require some skill since you'll be controlling 2-3 heroes at once and the boss fights are medium-hard as difficulty. It is a story closely related, if not inspired, from the sad and tragic fate of the Abbendis line that has known only tragedies throughout the history of Warcraft.
High General Abbendis went partly mad after fighting the Undead for so long and died to the Undead while saving Brigitte. Brigitte Abbendis was manipulated and eventually found her death in Icecrown. Lynnia died possibly to the Undead during the Scourging of Lordaeron, or at the hands of Balnazzar (it is rumored that she's part of the "Risen", Scarlet Crusaders brought back to life by Balnazzar and are much more dangerous and powerful than the Scourge).

My advice to people that want to play the map on their own will have to end the whole thing in one sitting with no saves and be extra careful since Landrgen's W doesn't block Unholy(Chaos) type damage and can't heal himself using his E unless he uses his R and the Spirit of Retribution heals him steadily. Keep in mind that Marjhan's W makes her immune to magic, but it will also remove buffs on her such as Landrgen's Blessings or his W skill to block damage.

Here is a list of issues that I've found:
- Saving works, but loading a save once you get defeated during the mission will cause the game to freeze and crash.
- Quitting the game during the mission will cause the game to freeze and crash.
- If you manage to load a save Arellas' Q skill won't work.
- If you manage to load a save some triggers won't work (such as getting teleported by the lich when you approach Lynnia Abbendis for the first time).
- You can also engage Lynnia Abbendis with all 3 heroes without having to fight the lich. Keep your distance and attack her using your ranged heroes, you'll keep Arellas alive this way (he gets teleported to the middle of the main map, and will answer your orders to move with the exception of the optional maps ((Jaina, Arthas and Bolvar))
- Do NOT kill Lynnia Abendis before you end Arthas' scenario map. It will lock down the game and you won't be able to finish it.
- Unleash! is too strong (in my opinion), you can easily kill a bunch of enemies with Marjhan's W or Q skill(s) and deal a LOT of damage to Abbendis once you return to the main map. This way you can effectively lock yourself unknowingly from ending the map.
- Orthmar Garithos wasn't buried anywhere, has no tomb and isn't recognized as a memorable figure of the Alliance, nor of Lordaeron; he is hated by a lot of humans of the Alliance. His body was eaten by Ghouls after he was betrayed by Sylvanass once the battle for the Capital of Lordaeron was over.

As a side note I've played the map on patch 1.31.1.12173 so I am unsure if the issues I've encountered are the same for other people.

Overall I managed to enjoy the map to the fullest (after my 4th try). I've had some problems, not bug nor map design related, but my own play style and lack of full attention. The atmosphere is what truly sells the story's experience. It is something that I would return to just for the atmosphere, the sensation of exploring a dark, Undead haunted crypt and good boss fights. Even if I can't vote I am grading this map with a solid 5/5, even if the experience was brief (I needed 1 hour to end it) it is a very well built map, decent VA's, great atmosphere that draws you in and a good story.

Is this version bugged? It seems impossible to pass the golem phase, our hp is drained constantly and the priest can't use heal on himself. Mobs spawn constantly and the golem won't advance. Are we missing something?

You need to kill the commander or captain behind the enemy ranks. You will constantly take damage but the longer you're there the more annoying the damage gets. Don't focus on the little mobs too much, all you have to do is kill the unique mob behind the enemy lines and you'll win that fight.

Lol, thanks for the reply, but we killed him the second run of that area after clearing the baricade, he seemed unkillable during the first one due to spam heal so we didn't bother much (fwiw the priests were already dead at that moment). In the second one, we killed him, mage is dead from the beginning, golem starts being useful but we barely help it advance. I take it we're supposed to kill the captain in the first run? XD

I played the map solo. Had to manually control each hero but it is doable if you know the strategy. The game doesn't exactly tell you what to do (like a hint or line from a unit) I've also failed the first time since I stood too long there and died to DoT damage, eventually I figured out you need to kill the unique mounted unit to end everything and continue on.

Thanks! I'll try again and just focus on the knight

Pretty cool! Nice and polished with good voice acting and custom heroes. The boss fight was a bit confusing and, while I don't think it's a good idea to handhold the player, any indication of what to do on the Jaina and Arthas section could be helpful.

  1. You can attack enemies from behind the invulnerable rock chunks. Actually this is a general thing because the walls of the rooms are thin and vision isn't blocked.
  2. Tomb Raiders and strongmen carriers of bodies or rather remains.
  3. Marjhan looks too anime among the others.
  4. The music doesn't loop properly. You can hear the sudden stop and restart. I suggest fading out and in or something like that. Also, it's repetitive and oppressive.
  5. Linear gameplay. Rocks crumble by themselves etc.
  6. Really not a good idea to reblack mask the map.
  7. Would be nice to choose spells at the start.
  8. Abbendis uses a megaphone.
  9. Terrain is pretty monotonous.
  10. Music plays through the sound channel.
  11. Defeat the Tomb King requirement wasn't grayed on the quest log.
  12. Heroes can get teleported to the Jaian flashback with the ice spell on them.
  13. OK, not fair. While you fight in flashbacks, Lynnia regenerates... and you come back with low HP and mana from the fight... Lucky I could run away from her and use the angel to regenerate...
  14. Is the miasma supposed to remain while fighting Lynnia?
  15. Try not to get cameras through walls as clipping is ugly stuff.
  16. Landgren died and the quest failed when the ending scene reached the Nazgul.
Generally, there's room for improvement.

Been a fan of Chasing the Dawn for quite a long time, love the Scarlet Crusade, but just found this now...

Great map I enjoy it, but Marjhan does look too anime here, and Bosses are pretty hard.

I got one bug, fighting the Lich, Abbendis and Landgren got teleported to the first vision of the last boss and a few seconds later game was over due to the Pyromancer dieing.

Really like the map, and hope you continue Chasing the Dawn, and more maps like this would be amazing, maybe a few where we play the Scourge would be great, would love to play as Marduk The Black taking down Darrowshrine.

Great map, bring more.

I played the map solo on the latest version of War3 (1.32.10.17380) with classic graphics.

Loved the map, it was really well done, especially the cutscenes and the voice acting!
The atmosphere is incredible, it really felt like i was there in the catacombs with the other heroes, it was such a nice, dark and horror like experience, especially combined with the fact that the mini map terrain progress isn't saved like it always does, it gave an even bigger bonus to the horror/dungeon vibe, loved it!

I also liked the spells of both the heroes we controlled and the enemy units and bosses/heroes, all of them were great, they were in theme with the story and character lore and they did combo well with eachother.

The skins/models used in this map were also fantastic from the scarlet heroes to the enemy mobs and bosses, the zombies, ghouls and banshees in particular were just out of this world, their faces were truly horrific and scary to look at.:nw:

The story and dialogues were interesting as well, they were done in such a way that even people who aren't really familiar with the whole scarlet crusade and wow lore to somewhat understand what is going on in the story/gameplay of the map.
I really liked the whole story and dialogues with Linnya Abbendis and her grudge against the scarlet crusade and especially the grudge and hate against her own mother, it really felt real and powerful , once again the voice actors did a splendid job with bringing the story and what she had to say to life!

The boss fights are once again one of the best i have ever seen, both the Lich fight and the Linnya fight were just amazing, such an unique experience of gameplay with all those dream like parts with Linnya, i have never seen something like that done before ever in any game for that matter, getting teleported into this pocket dream like dimensions of Linnya where you can interact with the events that take place and having to complete certain objectives to be able to escape them while Linnya is gaining her hp back from the main characters in the dreams, like how did you even come up with this stuff, it's just marvelous! :jd:

I liked that small thing at the start of the map, if the player chooses to go back to the entrance you can actually see everyone there from the previous cutscene waiting for your return, i thought that was pretty cool, i always love when map makers to this kind of stuff when they put some secret/bonus at the start of the map for players who choose to move back a bit instead of moving forward.

There was also this unique rose item in one of the tombs near the end of the game in the zone of Abbendis i think, i am not sure what was up with that item, i thought it was some sort of secret unique item that maybe is used for something, but i have no idea what for, once again, some clues/tips would be nice to have for this kind of stuff.

In terms of negatives like the other comments i can only say are the lack of tips of what to do in the last boss fights, there should be some small tips for example with the jaina fight like, Tip: Interrupt the blizzard spell and survive until the golem is rdy to fight, and with the Arthas fight would be, Tip: Collect the souls, the more souls you have the slower you are and after u collect them all, a tip should be, Tip: Give the final soul to the Lich King.

This small tips will greatly increase the overall experience of the fights and make them much better.

Overall this was an amazing rpg/dungeon crawl, i had lots of fun playing it! :infl_thumbs_up:
My rating for this map is a solid A+
