ExecutorsAxe

Just made another attachment model, as they're obviously pretty much needed. This time i made a simple executor's axe. The axe with which mainly heads are chopped off. Although a simple weapon, it's mostly only spread amongst executors of nearly every race. The only races that use that as a normal soldier weapon as well are Undead, Fallen and Nerubians. The other races usually prohibit regular use of it as it's mainly used for executions only and has much blood sticking on the blade, not rarely blood of innocent people as well, who had been unjustically sentenced. The axe is also rarely used coz most of the executors hide it at their homes away from everyone's eyes for avoiding showing their real identity (and "job"). This axe is a reliable weapon, when it comes to mutilating unarmored oponents. It's usefull against armor targets as well, but its success in this case is limited. Undead warriors have somewhat developed a fondness for this stuff and use it quite frequently, especially if they're trained in the use of two-handed weapons. This axe is actually a two-hand weapon, except for Ogres and other huge creatures.

******IMPORTANT:******
By downloading this ressource you receive 2 models: the actual model is the attachment version and the portrait file. The portrait file (should be named ''ExecutorsAxeItem_portrait'' or so) isn't a real portrait, it's just the item version for it. It should be imported as ExecutorsAxeItem.mdx, not with the ending _portrait.mdx.

Feel free to use both models in any imaginable way, including editing, if desired. No need to ask me for permission. Have fun with them!

EDIT 1: due to ....."popular demand" i completely changed the item to something more executor-tyled. Now it has a cheap piece of wood with some clothes as a handle and i also added some more vertices for making it more curved (as TLI-Inferno suggested).

EDIT 2: due to the ongoing demand, i decided to change the texture of the handle for one last time.

Keywords:
axe, two-hand axe, two-hand weapon, execution, executor, weapon, evil weapon, death sentence

EDIT 3: though approved in the past, i decided to update the model so that it fits into the New Hive's rules. It now has a death anim. At the end of the death anim it disappears. I intentionally made the death anim be nearly as long as the death plus dissipate anim from heroes, so that it doesn't disappear akwardly during the wielder's death.

The axeblade looks like it belongs on a tree-chopping axe.

Executioners used axes with long and heavy curved blades to ensure it sliced through the neck in one go, no matter how thick it might be. The only place I know of where people used axes that didn't have long curved blades was the execution site at the Tower of London, except that blade is long from handle to edge rather than in length of the crescent. Still, if it was that axe you were going for, that axe has a straight wooden handle.

Using an axe like yours could end up taking multiple swings, which gets really messy and disgusting, while people generally preferred a quick and clean cut. It's already death and the loss of a head; hacking away at the neck repeatedly and sending blood flying everywhere would just be sadistic.

I know, it sounds weird, but in their minds they weren't being sadistic by chopping off a person's head as long as it was quick.

The stuff about the shape of the blade and its relevance to an executioner's axe doesn't matter, that isn't factoring into the rating; the rating is based only on how well it looks and how useful it might be, compared to existing resources.

As for the model itself, it could stand to look better. The transition from the handle to the blade doesn't look very good; the blade just doesn't quite fit right. The handle also looks too thin to support the blade.

I'm going to have to give this a 2/5 for now; it just doesn't look very good, and at the same time has a pretty big file size of 32.97 KB (granted the attachment part is 12 KB, which still seems high compared to how it looks).

I strongly advise you split this up and make a good-looking wooden handle to match the current axe blade, and make a curved axe blade to match the current handle. You would then have two good-looking axes, both still simple.

Edit: Increased rating to 3/5.

Wow, wow, wow, wow. :goblin_jawdrop: Could you plz conclude your essay next time to something......reader friendlier? This text is the new Great Wall of China from size.... :goblin_boom:
Yeah, i think i should change it somewhat....yeah the blade should be more roundishand i also think the handle made of cheaper material. Thx for the advice.

On TLI-Inferno: Well the size of the actual model is only 12kb

Back to the model: I like it. It fits for a low tier weapon for ORPG's. I like the bent handle!
ty :ogre_hurrhurr: But it will be changed soon.

I was kind of hoping you would make a smooth and attractive wooden handle, not cover it in cloth as an easy but ugly easy re-wrap of the previous handle.

I was kind of hoping to see something like this for the handle and using the same axe blade as the original model. It would make an attractive axe.

And then, for the executioner's axe, I was thinking you should use the original handle, but a different blade shaped like this.

But please, please get rid of the current edit, it looks horrid! Even the original was better!

Edit: It looks okay now, but I still think the first handle was better. Still, the new one certainly beats the second one.

I don't want to insult or offend you, but sometimes it seems to me like you're trying to indirectly make people change their model(s) to your personal likes. :ogre_icwydt:

It isn't just personal preference, I'm just trying to help you make it better. I wasn't asking you to directly copy the reference images, those were just to give you an idea of what kind of shape/texture different parts of it could use.

If you honestly think the thing you changed the axe into looks good, I don't know what to tell you, because what you changed it to looks awful.

Even your original looks better than what you changed it to. This isn't just my personal preference; anyone who compares those two will say the one on the bottom looks better; you have got to get rid of the horrid handle it's currently using.

Edit: The images above are no longer the same as the model was updated and they have changed.

Lol. Thx for the recommendation, although i didn't see anyone else saying something different so far.....
And the pics you posted are both the same..... :eekani: Anyways, i thought of trying later another skin that might fit. The magnataur has IMO the problem that it would rather make the axe look like a better weapon rather than a low-tier execution weapon. :vw_sad:
I rly don't think that any executor would use a mahogany wood for the handle of his/her/its execution weapon.

The wooden handle wasn't for an execution axe. My whole point was that the current axe blade just doesn't look right, nor does the new handle you made.

You should stick the current blade onto a wooden handle and upload it as some different axe, and use the original handle (not the current one) with a different blade for an executioner's axe.

Hm, doesn't sound bad. Though, i think i will use the old version's handle texture for another, higher-tier weapon.

Alright, but at least please make a different handle for this axe, because the handle you changed it to ruins it; I don't even know how to describe how wrong its current handle is. Your first handle looked a lot better.

There we go again.... :vw_sad:

this deserves more than 2/5.. although this can be better with larger scaling and more HQ texture.

The handle makes it look like a woodcutter's axe. This would be a good attachment for undead creatures, something like an ape skeleton in Castlevania. Cool axe dude.

lol. Are you satisfied now?

I still think the first handle was better, the third one is just not as bad as the second one.

Your first handle looked really good, it was the one part of the model that I did like; the blade just didn't match the first handle very well and needed to be changed a little bit.

If you're going to keep this looking the way it does, you should at least upload another axe using the original handle because most of us who were actually here when you -first- uploaded it to see it prefered the original handle.

lol. I was thinking about using that handle rather for a polearm or stave than an axe. If I use it in the future for an axe, rest assured that it won't be a simple execution or working "tool". This texture, IMO, fits much more to an undead higher tier weapon rather than a unirace cheap execution axe.
