Map Info

This map I created it specifically for the mini-mappin' contest #7 - Boss Fight. I really enjoyed creating this map, I used Wc3 orignal's voice audios and I made it look just like a Wc3 Campaign map.

On this map you have to make your way to the boss and defeat him, on your way you can kill units to get money and buy some basic survival items. Your hero starts at lvl 6 and it has every single skill needed for survival; summon friendlies, heal self or friendlies and others.

Features


I tried to make it as normal as possible meaning that it would look just like a campaign map which means it does not have too many features.
  • Kill units for money
  • Buy items for your own survival
  • Use your spells when you need them

About the map


The dwarves have been mining here for years but their latest discovery, a demon's grave led a lot of strangers into their mines, some of those strangers were seekin' to revive this demon and they killed most of the miners, dwarven heroes have been called to rescue the mine but most have failed. Now it is your turn Gimli Bronzebeard.

A map for the mini-mappin' contest #7 that turned out fairly decent, I want to continue updatin' it to make it even more intense, of course when it comes to the boss fight.

I just played the latest version (after having tested a WIP earlier)

In my opinion you have the best terrain from all the entrants. Seeing as how this is the hive, you'll probably win because of that.

The difficulty is way too hard in my opinion. The only way to kill the boss is to sit and wait for enough mana to build up a huge army. Otherwise the summoned skeletons overpower you no matter what.

I'd suggest adding a life/mana fountain somewhere and also maybe not close the demon gate once you enter.

I'll try out this map as soon as a can. Been playing World of Warcraft and Minecraft a lot more than Warcraft III.

I just played the newest version. This time I upgraded the call bodyguards spell first and found it much easier than before. It turns out the heal spell is only really useful for keeping yourself alive.

The problem is that heal and call bodyguards both cost the same amount of mana, so you can keep 1 bodyguard alive or summon 6 new ones for the same price.

In my opinion, you should promote the player to keep his armies alive by:

  • Adding another unit type so that dwarven bodyguards are not as powerful as for example the units you find/start with. This will promote players to keep their more powerful units alive. Additionally, summoned units are smitten when a new summon is called. This change will allow players to keep track of which units are summoned and which ones are perishable.
  • Refunding a portion of the mana cost for heal when targeting allies. Maybe something like "For each n% of health missing from a target ally, (n/2)% of the mana cost is refunded". This way healing your allies is actually worth while

That being said, I finally was able to fight your boss this time, and all I can say is wow. He's pretty awesome! I really like the slow motion stomp spell. I did find a bug though, for some reason when he spawned, the chat message appeared twice:

Overall new version is a 5 * map; would recommend for the director's cut as well.

I added something to the last version I don't know if you noticed but when you heal a friend or damage an enemy, enemies around the targeted unit loses 1/3 of the damage dealt and 1/5 of the damage healed. That way people actually use the healing spell.

About the call bodyguards spells I was actually thinking why bother keeping them alive when you can just summon new ones? The difference between Call Bodyguards and Holy Light is that with CB you will deal damage overtime and they can block enemies from attackin' the Savior but with HL you get to heal a unit instantly and deal damage around that unit instantly, which is perfect for when you are in desperate times. You are right, I should totally find a way to separate the rescuable units and the summons, it will be fixed on the next update.

The bug I am not quite sure yet but I will take a close look at it right now, thanks :B oh and thank you too for the Director's Cut thingy but the map still needs quite some work :D

Ahaha well I did not see that comming. Hopefully it gets Director's Cut but i dont think it will anytime soon, theres a few things that need to be fixed.

The Terrain is good but.

Some issues:
- Holy Slam hotkey (S) conflicts with Stop.
- I didn't know my hero would respawn until he did. And when he eventually stopped respawning, I didn't know that would happen either. Maybe just mention somewhere "you have 3 lives".
- Terrain: the "cliff top edges", ie heightmap with a sharp corner, looks bad. Add some rocks on the edge and Ctrl-PgDwn them.

Minor details aside, great map! Enjoyed it, and was challenged by it. You should consider making a multiplayer version with more bosses :).

You did a very good job on this! Some open issues though (for me at least):
1. The mana regeneration is very low and it is quite annoying, that you have to wait until you can get back into fight. (With the runes in the final room it worked very well though)
2. I usually don't like, when you can attack your allies - I lost because I killed my (computer) ally after I had already killed the boss. And also you could remove the Hero, when there is a computer player on second slot (as he can be killed by the boss).
I just noticed you can actually play as the second player when you put a computer player in the first slot - that might not be intended as well.
3. You can glitch over the boundaries quite easily. If you use the summoning spell, the summons can just spawn over a wall. There also is a hole in the blocking, which only the summons and some enemies can go through, but not the hero - near the first shiny door. So you can see and attack the boss and Muradin before they even have spawned.

don't mean to annoy you, but it would be awesome if you could take a look at it. Good luck for the contest.
