Doomed temple of Newerthep

This bundle is marked as useful / simple. Simplicity is bliss, low effort and/or may contain minor bugs.
Doomed temple of Newerthep

Newerthep is an altered melee map meant for 2 to 6 players. I recommend playing in 3Vs3.

Back story:

10 000 years ago, when the Burning Legion first invaded Azeroth, the Night Elves were not the only victims. All around the globe, demons opened portals and burned life from the ground, tearing down any form of resistance. Like the Temple of Newerthep.

Newerthep, this old guardian of the titans, ruled a semi-desertic area on the coast of Uldum. For a long time, he had been providing for his faithful, dispensing wisdom and power. So, when the Burning Legion came and laid siege to his great sanctuary, it took 9 days and the intervention of Archimonde himself to defeat the guardian. Wounded and hurt in his pride, the demon decided not to destroy the weakened Newerthep, but -and it is far worse- to take over his mind. Captive in his own body, Newerthep became his dark agent, slowly but surely corrupting his own land and people, a spreading blight no one could stop.

Later, when the Night Elves eventually won this “War of the Ancients”, Newerthep remained. His priests took on themselves to lock him into its own temple, in a desperate hope to protect the world from his madness. And even then, they could only slow his influence down.

In present days, only a handful of the Faithful remain, living destitute, fighting every day of their life to preserve their oasis from the frequent raids of demons and morphed beasts. Under the guidance of the High-priest, Nefer’ut, they still hope for someone strong enough to face Newerthep and free Azeroth of his curse…

Features:

  • 18 rich gold mines (for a maximum of 6 players)
  • 20 red camps
  • 5 brown camps
  • 12 green camps
  • Life and Mana fountains
  • A mercenary camp[1]
  • A scroll shop[2]
  • 4 portals
  • Strategical positions such as walled goldmines or narrow naturel bridges

Map particularisms:

  • A challenging mini boss as Newerthep (battle him up to 5 times and gain extra rewards each time!)
  • 13 extra hero options and abilities (some are campaign heroes; others are completely custom with a few features that are kinda innovative, if I can say so)
  • New options include the Val’Kyr Warleader, the first flying hero
  • Alternate ‘desertic’ skins for some regular heroes
  • Harder than usual creep camps
  • Rewards up to the challenge (for instance, all tomes are +2 instead of +1)
  • Some green creep camps may come back at midnight
  • Huge diversity of choice regarding strategy
  • Imperfect symmetry (personal taste, I don’t like when geography looks like copy/paste too much)

Note: you can choose to fight Newerthep or not, depending on your mood and your situation. To unlock this challenge, you first have to get the key to his temple from the High Priest Nefer’ut and use it at the main gate. Know that you WILL lose many good soldiers, so think it through.

Changelog:

Woops! Seems like I had uploaded my test version on the Hive instead of the playable one, sorry!
It's fixed now, so you should eventually be able to fight the different stages of Newerthep and the conclusion should also be working now. While I was at it, I also made slight change: now stages 4 and 5 of Newerthep summons stronger corrupt priests to help him. Beware! Also fixed an issue with the succubus' camps not being refilled. They should now receive reinforcements once a day after day.

Custom hero focus: The Orcish Demonist

Removed:
  • The [Inferno] ability
  • The [Hell Rains] ability

Added:
  • [Connexion]: As in WoW and HoTS, the Demonist can now sacrifice some life to regain mana. Requires level 4.
  • [Void Summoning] The Demonic variant of Water Elemental. Level 2 and 3 void walkers have [Dissipate magic].
  • [Eredari Pact] Summons a powerful Eredar to serve, with unlimited lifespan. Requires level 6. Has [Spell Resistance], [Reaction], [Fireball] and [Last Contract]. When used, [Last Contract] quickly drains all Eredars of their health to restaure the Demonist's life. Also drains some mana during the process to the Demonist.
These modifications to the Demonist aim to make him a bit more fun and different from existing heroes... and obviously more balanced, too. These new spells, like [Void Summoning] and [Connexion] also make him more like what we are used to with Demonists in the Warcraft universe.

Bug fix regarding heroes

  • Players should no longer be able to recruit more than 3 heroes, no matter who they choose.
  • Players should no longer be able to recruit more than one instance of the same heroes (custom heroes used to cause some issues...)
  • Added a couple missing tooltips

Known issues:

  • As I work with a French version of the editor, some tooltips may remain in French. I am not sure how much is automatically translated by your set up. All I know is I made all my changes in English, just for you guys

Author’s notes:

This map is my third addition to the Hive after Leafshade and Aletharion’s lair. I hope you will enjoy this one as much as the other two! Please let me know of any bugs and give me some feedback. I am open to suggestions, as long as they are not too harsh nor too complex for my limited skills.

HAVE FUN!

[1] Some of the younger and bolder Faifthul may accompany you, if you provide for their people

[2] The antique knowledge of Newerthep has survived – at least some of it – and the priests still own many magical, cult items.

The tooltip description of the Valkyrie is in Spanish. This is supposed to be played 3vs3 I think. Even so, the base camps are really closed. I can easily go into the enemy territory and vice versa. Badly imported icons, some have green icons for their disabled parts. The terrain and layout is nice. The spectral explosion of the Valkyrie has a passive icon instead of an active one. One of her spells is also in Spanish. I like that you can train other heroes from the altar but they aren't really custom.
Sorry but this doesn't seem to be a complete project.

Set to simple.

Hey there! Thanks for your comment.

Sooo, there should be no spanish in there, unless maybe you set your game up in that tongue. Because I didn't write anything in Spanish. I did, however, used French in the very first stages of the map conception, as I am French myself and have the editor set in my mother tongue. So I might have forgotten to translate some bits, sorry about that! I'll fix it later :)

The map is indeed meant for 3vs3, and it was a personal decision/ liking to have the two groups of bases rather close from one another.

I do have trouble with some icons, especially the one for the Val'Kyr hero. Did not find any suitable one for her on the Hive, so I tried to make one myself but, well, that's not my strongest skill. There are few other usages where I could not find icons of my liking, so that's why I had to use some improper ones as you mention. I'll keep looking for better ones in a future update :)

I don't get your meaning on the additional heroes not being really custom, though?

Anyway, thanks again for taking time to review the map. And thanks for the comment on the layout! I did have a lot of fun creating this tiny bit of universe.

Or French I think it was. Certainly not English.
