Defence of the Randoms

v 0.19 b

Defense of The Randoms is a defense game, where you defend Power of Randomness with random units. These units, heroes and items are randomly selected (when you buy them). The attacking enemy units are random and even some levels are random.

Point of the game is to survive till level 35 and then defeat a very epic boss.

Game has few "fun" modes, 4 difficulties and some modification settings.

Press F9 for info in game.

Map is protected & works for multiplayer & singleplayer.

Any new ideas etc. Please leave comments :).

My complains go on heroes, I pressed yes, and yet I didn't have any lumber to buy one. Then I checked the quest log and it didn't tell me where could I acquire lumber.

Next, the terrain, it was done poorly, you should practice your terrain skills, making the terrain a lot more interesting and more linked to the game.

Some other tips, such as the worker units. When I got peons or peasants, wisps or acolytes, they would just defend if they were attacked, they were passive. I had to order them to attacks since they are build units. You should also remove all the unnecesary abilities from the units.

The size of the map is a big plus, however you could add a multiboard perhaps, images to the submission here aswell. All in all a nice start to a map, Approved with a 2/5 (Lacking) rating.

Originality: Defense of the randoms is a game unlike non other ive ever seen before. the concept of the game is to summons units, you get different levels of randomness (teehee :D). The map has a advanced way of playing and its really exciting, although it can use with more modes and difficulty levels.

Balancing: Well i played this solo, then with some of my friends. Its really hard solo, witch is way i suggested more difficulty levels. Some of the units are stronger then others, but i guess thats the excitement that this game holds. I really laughed at my 1 friend. he was like " DUDE I JUST KILLED A ZERG " <-- hehe noob.

Terrain: Terrain in this map can use lots of work. Tile variations, more tiles, doodads, perhaps some trees, waterfalls =D, its really really really really really (oh wait im spamming again -_-) flat. Raise the plateau a little would you :)/

Lag: Ok, this is always hard for me to rate, because i got such an updated pc, but it seems like theres no trigger flaws or anything, and you've not overdone the unit spawn, so yea, guess there shouldn't, i repeat, shouldn't , be any lag.

Bugs: Well theres when i build the tower it takes forever to finish -.- really can you lower the build time a little. Also it would be cool if some units can have various abilities.

Initial Impression: Well when i 1st started the map, the thing that cough my eye was the red runes used on the ground. Also terrain would really help you out at this aspect. Also maybe a map preview? or loading screen?

This map is starting to become legend.

Some of the heroes buttons isn;t well placed. Fixing this should help alot. Other than that, great map, keep it up.

Towers idea is to be built slow, they got good price/quality relationship. I think i'll put it little lower tought

This is HARD AS FUCK, but I like it hard :p how many lvls have you made?

I will continue making this map, it's not even nearly finished.

General:

  • You need luck to win

Gameplay:
  • Very repetitive
  • Only a limited option of units (but it's random, I know... still not enough choices)
  • It's very hard... a game should be playable for both newbs and pro's.
Terrain/Objects

Terrain:
  • It's a bad terrain, it's a straight line towards an energy generator with 2 sides.
  • Blizzard cliffs for walls
  • Overdone doodads (the pikes)

Objects:
  • A lot of units haven't been changed
  • Spells haven't been changed
  • The button position is a mess

Well, I like the idea (it has been done before, but still...), but there is a lot missing, like the description, Add more custom units, at least change the standard units.
Create more items (no standard items, please), add custom spells to some units.
Add a description, which is very important!
Edit the terrain a little, don't overdo the doodads, just make it look better.
Redo the Button Position (more gold from left to right is always a good idea)

I just hope your triggers aren't leaking ;)

Adding a description would be a great improvement.

Ohh, another idea is to buy items that will increase your luck of getting better units/items.
You could say that the chance of getting a unit is (for example) 5 + LuckTicket[player number] % chance.
The LuckTicket is of course a variable, which represents an item (or you can use food).

Random terrain every time you play would be a nice extra ;)

I'm sorry, I know it isn't finished (and I've read the description), but you need to live with that rating.
A rating allows the people to see the current state of the map, not how it is going to be.
This map has potential to get a 4/5 (not a 5/5 though), work on it and I will change that rating.

Improve the description and edit the standard units and it will be approved, that can't be hard, can it?

A rating doesn't only allow the players to check the state of the map, but it is also a reference for you, to check how much work there still is on your map and you can always think how to improve the rating (I have given you tips for that).

I think I have given you enough reasons for this map to be 2/5, since you didn't even change some of the standard units.
I've also said "Untill further notice", that means I will keep track of this map untill it is ready for approval.

Above that, The map isn't balanced:
3 level 1 units can beat 1 level 2 unit and 10 level 1 units can easily beat a level 4 unit.

(and yes, I know you aren't the creator -.- this message is ment for him and for you, though).

I have changed some of them, and i'm going to change more.

Bug Found:
"Asure strike" says it requires "Triple Attack", while I maxed out that ability and I can't use it.

Asure strike requires triple attack to be used before it, forgot to put it in the skill description, it's not bugging.

There's (almost) clearly a message "Heroes have been activated, you will be able to buy hero after 3 minutes of gameplay"

Why don't you put that message in the quest log?
If you missed that message, then what? (It's not unusual to miss messages).
Put everything that might be worth saying in the quest log, I know some people don't read it, but there are a lot who do.

Also:
The Lightning Monk is a little bit bugged, it can't be clicked from time to time.
The first time you can't command it, the ability "Azure Strike" is disabled, after that you can command it for a short while, the second time it bugs, azure strike will be enabled.
This process repeats itself the whole time and is very annoying.

Great idea but the implementation could use some work.

There seems to be no point to buy any higher tier units (apart from heroes), 10 level 1 heroes are a lot stronger than one level 5 one (even though they cost as much). The acolyte has "unsummon" building and sacrifice as his two skills (of which neither can be used). Also, in its current stage it doesn't seem possible to finish the map unless you are very lucky with gold stage early on.

If he didn't want it reviewed then he shouldn't have posted it. Seriously all he got were reviews, if you want comments such as: "good map 5/5" then this isn't the place, I like to believe so.

You know... that's really painful for me, after all the hints I have been giving the creator, this is like a stab in the back.
You cannot give tips without judging the map, if I say "Standard units haven't been customized", I judge the map, while giving a useful hint that could improve the map.

Clearly the creator has already listened to me, I've said the pikes were spammed and didn't look good, the terrain had to be changed, the description was missing, ....
And guess what: He changed all that.

In this tutorial is a good point about constructive criticism. (under "What Should Be Avoid And Why?")
You could learn from that

Now you are only making a fool of yourself, saying we aren't helping.

I could easily defeat the Death Knight (I don't know which level) at novice, so I don't know what you have done to die after 1 minute...
At the start, you need to mass level 1-2 units, after you can buy a hero, you need to save some money for a level 6/7 unit (it's easier then, since the hero will stop most waves), then you just need to do what seems right (some levels have higher chances for healers, so if you're out of healers, pick them, or buy items...).

meen the map is really cool, but you really need to have a extra " easy easy easy very easy " difficulyty, the map is imposible!

full house = full dificulity
solo = 1 monster spawn ... but difficult too xD

or at least give more money ^^

Wtf, "the units are not even slightly touched" - every creep units have been changed, added ability or changed damage, health etc.

I must say the hero mode worked when I played the map... I saw the moderator said it doesnt :O

Anyway, nice map, funny idea!!
Hard to clear on both single- and multiplayer :)

Maybe add some rescue strike or something like in Castle Fight? Might make it too easy but think about it.

i played the map and... It's defense of the random.


You randomised defenders.
You randomised Attackers.
You randomised heros and items.

But it's not enough random.

But the map isn't random... It's an hybrid hero defense. You may add random things.. Terrain... events... more totally strange units... Random low levels boss with a short introducing cinematic, in order to surprise players. Maybe a few more thematics levels ? (like a portal oppenning, with kael, Vashj and a few warriors going out... an orcish raid... A scourge assault... A group of taurens with kodos.... A group of dropped marines... Invading zerg... The Super Panda... Timmy.....somme bandits... a knight charge....)
Make it more more Random !
I hope you'll have enough free time to update it ! (Oh... the ent is slow... really slow....)

None of the 30 + people i played this map with, don't know how the income system works..

that is some bull shiat... and not fun. we die cuz noone can buy another level 2 creep before level 15
