As with the previous successful version of Dawn of Empires players may conquer the world of Hazzarah with either land or sea tactics. DoE is an RTS based on player management and highly focuses upon strategy. The unique armor system featuring cloth, leather, chainmail, plate, and shadowplate armor remains as one of the most significant facets regarding strategy in this Real-time strategy game. Players will discover that certain attack types counter certain armor more effectively than others. Moreover, other factors attribute to Doe's uniqueness as well. For example, at the start each player owns a beautiful castle which has walls that are mannable by ranged units. Buildings can only be built upon city pavement, and building limitations also exist to prevent mass production of barracks.
At the start of the game, players will be asked to vote for a game type, Free for All, Team Islands, and Mixed Teams. The voting system will recognize the total amount of team game type votes vs. free for all votes. If someone votes for mixed teams, then to have a free for all game type the voting percentage must be over 66%. This is because if 3 players want Team islands, and 2 want Mixed teams, then more players in general want a team gametype vs. free for all. Although this voting system may appear rigged in some voting situations it compensates mostly for people who desire a team game type.
