This is my first ever skin and my first time using GIMP. I know it looks rather messy in 2D but I think it turned out all right in game. I edited a lot of things including the shield, face, wolf, colors, beard of the hero etc. CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM is welcome, but if you're just going to tell me it's awful don't bother. (I know it's not great, but that's why I posted it, to learn.)

The skin seems to be largely flat with no shading, save that two colors are used to hint at tone rather than one. See if you can get the shading and highlights to be more gradual with the skin. The details seem very grany and undefined as well, it is hard to tell what is what, and what anything is really supposed to be. I'd recommend fallowing along with some skinning tutorials ):
