I'll consider uploading a ranged variant named "Ranger of Ithilien"

The main reason this one is bound to melee is because in the game he is based on he detects invisible units and can become invisible (but must be stationary).
He weilds a 2h sword but doesn't do a lot of damage for whatever reason.

The reason I didn't him with archer animations is simply because I cannot animate a bow-string nor arrow. For example, my orc bowman started off as the NE Archer.

Here is a woefully low res picture of the unit I based this model off of.
The Sierra game - War of the Ring - Ranger unit

And here is a picture of Arnold Schwarzenegger

The animations might indeed look a little better, but in order to apply them I'd have to re-animate the entire model after tying it to the Paladin skeleton.

Which-- I'm a little too burnt out to do.

Sorry ;-;

Also I can't animate eyes, the methods employed by Blizzard for units like the Peasant & Peon baffle me.

Moderation Comment:

A really great model. As suggestions, I'd add a spell animation at some point (shouldn't be hard, a raising sword war cry like anim), and add a glow behind him at portrait animation, so it fits other in-game portraits. But since it works fine in-game and has no major errors, those issues remain as suggestions, and your model is approved. :)

An impressive model, HerrDave.

I find myself agreeing with Kyrbi0 on both points - both about the sword being a wee bit oversized and the model itself being wonderfully faithful.

A bastard sword that's a bit closer in size to the one Hueter uses for his Aragorn would probably make this model perfect, but it's a minor thing.

I think the Blademaster animation set gives the model the right feral, agile combat style.

5/5 from me.

Edit: He gives me a bit of a Conan the Barbarian vibe with that sword, especially with that resemblance to the Governator.
